Whatever you do, don't be…read morecaught on your phone (even if you're looking at a program or reading something) because you'll get given out to and shamed in front of the whole gym. I've seen people get their stuff and leave because of this. Some members of staff are not very helpful at all. The new equipment is okay but the whole gym feels very cluttered and you can't work out in peace because you're constantly looking around to make sure nobody bashes into your barbell or that you don't hit anyone. At peak times, this gym is a nightmare. The queue for the benches, racks and dumbbell area is ridiculous. One can wait up to 10-15 minutes before a piece of equipment is available. Also for the past few weeks the lights on the outdoor running track have been turned off very early, about 5pm. We have nowhere to run. We can't use the upstairs indoor track because it is too small and gets crowded very easily. The pool is a nightmare. There seems to be kids classes on constantly and that leaves 2 lanes and an open area for the members. You can't enjoy a swim because of the sheer amount of people in it. Honestly, spend your money elsewhere. The Mardyke Arena just isn't worth it

The mardyke is a great gym, it has pretty much everything; gym, pool, sauna, steam room, cafe,…read morerunning track, astro turf, squash court, basketball courts. the gym is really good, a load of machines, a separate free weights section with two racks and dumbells up to 50kg, about a gizillion treadmills and bikes. Theres also a separate 'elite' section, and a separate women's gyn (not too sure whats in there though) you see all shapes and sizes in there, yesterday a guy was benching about 180kg and the next guy to use the bench was struggling with just the bar. It gets busy enough between 6.30 and 8.00 but not unbearable. The staff are pretty good by and large, its always spotless, parking gets seriously busy at peak times, all in all a fantastic place to train. Leisureworld is one of the public gyms in Cork...but gives the impression of being more than that!…read more I headed here when I was between gym memberships when I lived in Cork and will still pop in if I'm back down. They are one of the few gyms in the city to offer pay-as-you-go which is really handy. It's not overwhelmingly cheap to do so, but competitive....at €8.20 for the gym at peak times-there's a student rate of €3.80 off peak if you have a card. Full price list here: http://churchfield.leisureworldcork.com/index.cfm/page/prices. The fees for annual membership aren't particularly low either, but there are often specials on. The pool is great-clean with dedicated lane swimming. There's a slide and a lovely kiddie pool with buildings to climb on! Nice shiny steam room and sauna too. The gym is quite small but has been spotless anytime I've visited. It can get quite busy but it's usually possible to get on whatever you want. The main gym overlooks the city and is filled with light. Individual TVs make time on the elliptical less yawnsome...although there is no way of adjusting the volume on the sets. They have recently moved heavier weights into a separate room which has pros (like increased equipment provided) and cons (more awkward to do circuits etc). Good range of classes provided-took a couple of challenging circuit and bootcamp ones. Staff are friendly and will help if you want...or leave you to your own devices if you'd prefer. Massage services are also available onsite and the gym is part of a GP referral programme. Major wins are the cleanliness and ability to pay per visit. It's a happy place!
