Stayed April 2015, traveled with friends: "Engineer was on his way, and the staff saved the day."…read more When we arrived, we were greeted by a very welcoming gentleman who informed us that the heat was out but they had an engineer on his way. He gave great instructions on how to use the security key, where our room was, and the times for the dining hall. We took the flight of stairs, were easy to climb and didn't have that many steps to them, but they weren't very wide. Getting the door open, and maneuvering your luggage out of the way, could provide a hazard of falling down the staircase if you weren't careful or under the influence. Our room had two rooms to it, a sitting area and the bedroom. The sitting area had a couch, table, and a fireplace. Off of it was the bathroom. The bathroom was petite and the shower was enclosed by 4 walls. There was an alcove from the sitting room that leads into the bedroom area. There were 2 twin beds, flanking the window, along with a wardrobe, end table, chair, and small desk next to another fireplace. Next to one of the beds was a door, which reminded me of an old barn door. We ate in the dining room, near roaring fire in the fireplace. We shared a bread board starter: rustic breads, served with English herb oil and butter. It was a Wednesday and their special at that time was homemade pies, so I ordered the chicken pot pie and my friend had the cheese pie. Both were equally delicious. Finally, I had creme brulee for dessert. There were actual pieces of raspberry embedded in the custard, which I was not aware of but it was adequate just the same. Our server Jane was incredible. She talked us through all the different sauces, made small talk with us, answered all our questions with ease, was attentive, pleasant, and just an overall easy going person. She informed us that tipping was not required at the establishment, but we - as Americans - felt she deserved one after how remarkable our overall meal and experience was due to her service. We had the complementary breakfast here, and it was the standard Innkeeper's Lodging of: granola bars, yogurt, juices, coffee, breads, fresh fruit, and cereal. You can order off the hotel's menu for an extra charge. All in All, the room was easily spacious for 4 people, had an attached sitting room for relaxation and personal time. The bathroom was lacking but the dining room made up for it. The service was impeccable, and the meal was superb. I would definitely stay here again.

Very pretty and relaxing pub though, due to too few staff, service can be slow. The wait staff that…read moreserved us, however, were very pleasant. The food itself was flavoursome though two of the mains had quite tough meat. That was probably again due to a lack of staff in the kitchen to keep a close eye on things. To counter that, the Merlot & Steak pie was one of the best pies I have had and I wholeheartedly recommend it. All round, good value (3 courses for £10.50) and we will definitely give it another shot in the future.

I have frequented this club /bar for many years, and slowly watched the customer service…read moredeteriorate. The supercilious bouncers, rather than recognise regular customers, or take care of their clientele, treat you with distain. You are not even worthy of eye contact. God forbid you should try and make conversation. The final straw was last Saturday night; my best friend's Hen Party. The owner had met the groom at a charity event the week previous, and graciously offered a booth for the Hen, free of charge, and promises of 'being taken care of'. Ooooo, how lovely. So generous. The bride was so excited. We all were. When our party arrived at MuMu, there was no booth for us, but a sectioned off table, in the bar area, away from the dance floor. Disappointed it was not one of their 'booths', as promised, next to the dance floor, but fine, no problem, we were just pleased to have 'an area', and looking forward to enjoying the promised hospitality. I asked the manager if we could sort out some drinks for the hens. He said the owner was not there, and there was no note to say a bottle of wine or champagne had been arranged. Oh. How odd I thought. This wasn't what we were expecting at all! Confused and disappointed but I wasn't going to let anything spoil this special evening for my friend. "No problem" I said. "Could I purchase a bottle of wine or champagne"? "No. We don't sell that". "Ok, could I get a few pitchers / jugs or fish bowls"? - "No, we don't do that either". Hmmmm. " I have 16 thirsty ladies, what can I get them to kick start the evening?" I was offered a bottle of Smirnoff Vodka with mixers for £95.00 !!!!! (Oh and it wasn't even a large bottle of vodka! I think the Spa sells it for £18.00.) Alternatively I could buy cocktails at £8 / £9 a pop. "Well I need 16 drinks now - can you not do a pitcher - or at least give me a (bulk buy) discount whilst we wait for your bar staff to mix up the drinks". NO. Apparently not. Far too much effort for them. Flabbergasted, and totally unimpressed, but refusing to let anything spoil my friend's special night, I bit the bullet and bought the £95.00 bottle of vodka, from the unsmiling unfriendly bar staff (to match the bouncers). We all had a drink at our table, and then whisked ourselves upstairs to boogie the night away. I popped back down to our table after 20 minutes or so only to find, the £95.00 worth of mixers and remaining vodka had been cleared away!!! I attempted to speak to the manager, but he really wasn't interested, and I couldn't be bothered to have it out with him. We were 'Trying' to have a good night. I am a 40 year old professional business owner, not some young drunken idiot girl, and I have been on many a Hen Do, where the staff have bent over backwards to ensure the bride-to-be had the most fabulous time. I am truly disgusted with Mu Mu's and their staff for almost ruining this Hen Party. Some of the ladies had travelled from miles all over the country. The attitude of ALL the staff was antiseptic! Do NOT have your party here! Free booth or not. You're better off paying through the nose and finding a venue that actually cares if your enjoy your evening, and who knows, makes you feel a little bit special.
