On July 2, 2026, I brought my 3 1/2-year-old dog, to Vet on Fourth after he suddenly developed enlarged lymph nodes. A fine-needle aspirate (FNA) was performed, and I was told the preliminary findings were suspicious for lymphoma. Anyone who has ever heard the word "lymphoma" associated with their pet understands how devastating and urgent that moment is. The clinic used the Zoetis VetScan Imagyst platform to evaluate Blue's samples. According to Zoetis, "Using the Add-On Expert Review feature on your VetScan Imagyst platform ensures that an AI-flagged cytology sample receives human validation within hours." Zoetis also states that "Completed expert reports are returned directly to your dashboard within a few hours." [[HIGHLIGHT]]I left the clinic at approximately 8:08 PM on July 2. The expert review report that I later obtained is marked Finalized: July 2, 2026, at 8:34 PM--just 26 minutes after I left the clinic. Despite the report being finalized that evening, I was not notified of the expert review results until July 10, 2026, eight days later.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] This delay is especially concerning because canine lymphoma is a time-sensitive disease. Early diagnosis allows owners to promptly consult with a veterinary oncologist, discuss staging tests, and begin treatment if appropriate. Every day matters when evaluating treatment options and planning a dog's care. [[HIGHLIGHT]]My concern is not that additional testing or an expert review was performed--I appreciate that the clinic sought board-certified confirmation. My concern is that a finalized pathology report documenting a potentially life-threatening diagnosis was not communicated to me for eight days.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]During that time, I repeatedly contacted the clinic asking whether the results had been received, only to continue waiting while believing the report was still pending.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]As a pet owner, I expect timely communication of critical diagnostic results, especially when the diagnostic platform itself advertises expert validation and report delivery within hours. I am writing this review to warn other pet parents, as the lack of thoroughness and financial focus at this clinic could have easily resulted in a life-or-death situation for my 85-pound dog. I brought my dog to The Vet On 4th St. presenting clear symptoms of severe distress and gastrointestinal blockage. They immediately attempted to rack my bill up to nearly $800 for completely bogus diagnostic tests that had nothing to do with his immediate crisis. Even without those extra tests, I still spent over $460 on this visit, only for them to completely miss the actual issue. The medical negligence here is staggering. We had a baseline comparison because he had an abdominal X-ray done at this clinic just a couple of months prior, which showed his digestive tract completely clear and moving stool perfectly. On this visit, the new X-ray showed him fully impacted with fecal matter from end to end--and the vet thought nothing of it, completely missing a massive, hard blockage lodged at the very end of his colon. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We were sent home with zero answers.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Trusting my own instincts and specialized knowledge, I immediately stepped in with an aggressive, natural home-remedy protocol to lubricate and support his digestive tract. Because of my intervention--and absolutely nothing this clinic did--my dog finally passed the dangerous obstruction at home. Had I blindly trusted this vet's assessment instead of taking his care into my own hands, his colon could have ruptured, or his system could have gone septic. I have used the Vet on 4th for an emergent issue when my Basset Hound would not stop vomiting on a Saturday and to provide end of life for my 14 year old dog who had a brain tumor when it finally impacted her ability to walk and eat. They were absolutely fabulous. I opted to seek routine care for my dogs there so I was an established patient in case of emergencies such as this. just wanted to share my experience with the vet on 4th. I decided to visit after my vet left unexpectedly and found myself without care for my baby. He was treated for a back injury. He was finally able to regain most of his mobility. He suddenly became ill with vomiting. thought it was one of new prescriptions that had been prescribed. took him in for check and changed meds. He became worse and stopped eating. took him back in and they said the best thing would be euthanasia due to his other health issues. the vet said if I took him home he would die a very uncomfortable death. I couldn't stand to watch him suffer. He was doing fine until the vomiting started. they didn't address the vomiting issue. He was also dehydrated, I asked if they could give him fluids and was told it wouldn't help. I pray I did the right thing for him. [[HIGHLIGHT]]there were no condolences by the vet or vet tech. The lady up front just wanted to know if it was cash or card.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Don't think they are in it for the love of animals, just money. Make your own decision. Be absolutely complete in submission of your pet's medical history--unless it's an emergency, wait for Vet on 4th to VERIFY that your records are complete to their satisfaction. Several months ago, I took my dog in about 9:30 PM with a snake bite. They are open 7 days a week, 7am to 11pm, according to the hours posted. I took my dog inside, told them what was going on, and they were walking in circles trying to decide what to do with me. After several minutes of NOTHING, they told me the vets all like to leave at 9pm and they couldn't really do anything for me. So why advertise they are open until 11pm? They finally SENT ME AWAY to go to the Emergency Pet Clinic on Gilmer Road, where I did go and THEY took care of my pup. Many minutes were wasted while I dealt with these "vets" and the clinic. The Vet on 4th is a JOKE. Absolutely no consideration of anything except getting to go home EARLY. I asked them-so I just let my dog suffer? You can't even give him a pain shot? They said no. Everyone wanted to go home... If I could give a minus star rating I would. Now they have opened a branch in Hallsville. We took him for his Rabies shot and Kennel Cough shot, he had an ear infection and skin tags. I got an initial estimate of $145 dollars. Then my husband took my dog there and He was given a sheet of paper with all sorts of tests and shots including Parvo. I had relayed to the vet clinic over the telephone that we had bad experiences with the Parvo shot and didn't want our animals to get it. I also made another appointment for my other puppy dog. Then my husband was told all the Vet bill was $277 dollars. He protested about the parvo shot and was told it was another shot that had adverse side effects and that they would keep that part out of his annual shot cocktail. My husband doesn't know anything about dogs; he expected professional assessment of his dog and so when He told me the up-charge and increase of the vet bill by $150 dollars in unnecessary evaluation of my spoiled dog; you bet I was upset and I immediately called the vet clinic of 4th Street to hear my anger. I was then told by my husband that the older woman with glasses and white hair opened the door to his room and asked if he was in contact with his wife over the phone? He stated Yes and then she told him that she was screaming on the phone and that I needed to deal with her since it was his fault for agreeing to the vet assessment and implying he was the idiot. My husband didn't want to lose his cool and said nothing. Upon closing the door, she directly looked at him and told him,"You need to deal with her." and then closed the door. He paraphrased to me that She told him to "Check" his wife. Upon the completion of the dog appointment, my husband was paying the $285 dollar Vet bill that was supposed to be $145 estimate and he addressed the two women in the front of the Un-professionalism and didn't appreciate the "Sass" he received from the white haired one. They then spoke over him to tell him that his wife had no right to scream at them and yell at them over the telephone. He stated she had every right to be upset of her displeasure with the Vet clinic and their up-charge schemes. My husband has never been treated so poorly and he certainly wasn't going to have two strange ladies that didn't know where he was spending good money on his beloved dog talk poorly to him and his wife. My wife had called and told them what was needed. I was just the driver. They had their pwn agenda, to up charge. I have never been to a vet before where they took the dog out of the room to another room without me and ran the test and gave him shots. How do I know he got the shots? They lied about everything else. My wife called angry after I text her how much it was going to be. Then the lady in front, the older lady with white hair and glasses open the door stuck her head in and asked if I was the communication with my wife on the phone. I replied yes. He said my wife was on the phone angry she said that I had to deal with her. Maybe she has a husband that deals with her but I respect my wife that I don't have to deal with her. How dare this woman come in and say this to me. She was trying to tell me to keep my wife in check. She might need to be kept in check but my wife doesn't. When I got out to pay the bill I was angry and I paid the bill. I explained to the lady how disappointed in a professional she was and how I was offended and conned into getting shots that were not needed just because they need to have a couple extra dollars in their pocket. A big con game. As I was sleeping the girl at the counter asked me if I was bringing my other dog in tomorrow. Really ? I was in shock that they expected me to bring another animal in. And the sad part is my dog still has his ear infection and I had to take him to another vet to get it cleaned up and taken care of because they did not do it they were too busy making profits off a shots. What a joke highly say stay away from this place. Then I found out that the vet who started this organization was treating dogs after his license was expired it got into a lot of trouble in court and with the Veterinary board here in Texas. We had been going to the Vet on 4th shortly after it first opened in 2018 and very pleased with the facility and services provided. That all changed about a year and a half ago. The facility has quite a turnover when it comes to technicians and doctors aren't always available due to "emergency" surgeries. A short time ago we had taken our male and female dogs in for routine checkups and were told our male dog needed heart medication due to a heart murmur/large heart. Not long after we gave him the medication, which included a liquid and tablet form, he collapsed and stayed motionless for several hours. We kept an eye on him, monitored his breathing and decided to stop giving him both medications. He then developed what appeared to be a sinus problem with mucus and sometimes blood coming from one or both nostrils. We called to make an appointment but were told, sorry but there is a 4 hour wait you will need to take him to the emergency vet on Gilmer Road. Our female had an appointment set up for a follow up due to anal gland issue. We arrived ten minutes early, but there was no parking available and several cars were double parked, making it impossible to park anywhere. We decided to call the office before going in to see what was going on, only to get a voice mail that said they were closed and to leave a message or call back during business hours. That was the last straw! Haven't been back since and have gone back to our original vet who has been very understanding and supportive. Our first problem with the Vet on 4th began when technicians administered shots and examinations. We had never had any issues with other facilities, but on this day, a technician practically laid on top of our female while the other tech administered the shot. Not at all necessary as our female is a small and docile. On another visit when a tech gave a shot to our male he let out a shrieking yelp, which has never happened in all the years we have had him. You wont get a break down on the service that was provided unless you ask, only a receipt that can be printed or emailed. Plus, the cost for services and medications are way overpriced. Please do your research and ask questions regarding medication doses and side affects. It could save the life of your beloved pet. Lesson learned for us. read more

I am ONLY giving The Vet on 4th, in Longview, TX, a 2 rating because my dog did get the medication she needed for her allergies, and for that I am thankful. However, I paid over $550 only to be patronized by the Veterinarian, Dr. Dumeyer. She made me feel like she thought I was lying to her and/or I didn't know what I was talking about. I love my dog and care for her to the best of my ability. She has environmental allergies and has to be treated every 6 months or so for same. I've spent a lot of money on her treatment, because I care about her comfort and wellbeing. I am not a wealthy person but I do what I can for her. $500+ is a lot of money to me, and that's not really what I was upset about, it was the way that Dr. Dumeyer treated me. She needs to understand that people that bring their animals to a Vet obviously love them and are trying to care for their needs. I am a paying customer and deserve a little more respect and kindness than I was shown yesterday. The other staff has mostly been kind to me and my dog, the several times we've been to this clinic. But because of the unprofessionalism of Dr. Dumeyer, I will be looking for a new Veterinarian. read more

This clinic closes at 11pm, but I was turned away at the door with my injured dog in my arms at 9:50pm on a Saturday night. I drove from Kilgore and when I arrived the receptionist (who was packed up to leave) said the vet was about to leave. I pointed out their website says they are open until 11pm, but she said "Well, we have a vet tech here until 11pm, but the vet leaves at 10pm. You can go to the other ER clinic." Why would an emergency vet clinic not have a vet in the office during business hours?! While I am still loading my dog back in my car, the receptionist hops in her car (next to mine) and leaves. I called the office to make sure what the receptionist said was true. Brittney answered and said it was. When I pressed why the website says they are open until 11 when a vet isn't available, the story then changed to "the vet was about to do two emergency surgeries" and if I had called before I came then I would have known I couldn't have been seen past 9:30pm. That's not how Emergency Clinics of any kind are supposed to work- and their website clearly offers Emergency services. My first experience at The Vet on 4th was good, which is why I wanted to use them again. However, after being turned away with a dog in pain well before closing is unforgivable and I will never be back. I ended up going to the other ER clinic on Gilmer Road and they were wonderful! They took care of dog and were able to give her some extra pain meds to get through the weekend. read more

My dog got a tick about a 1 1/2 weeks ago; I tried to remove it but the body pulled off and left the head in my dog. It was later in the evening, so I called Vet on 4th street to see if the head could still be harmful to the dog. The said it could cause infection, and told me that if I'd like to stop by they would be happy to get it out for me. No mention of office charge was made, and they gave every indication they would just be helping me out. So I took my dog over; after they removed the tick I inquired about flea/tick medicine since my dogs (I have 2) had clearly worn off. They came back with a charge sheet for 2 doses of Simparica, along with a charge for 16.95 for the tick removal. When I mentioned that it was indicated to me the tick removal was a courtesy, they said well the only way they could dispense the medication was to charge for an office visit so they charged for the tick removal instead. Fair enough. I paid it and went on my way. That was the eve of Nov 27th and we had to leave the next morning for Thankgiving. So I dosed the dogs on Nov 29th when I got back, six days ago. Over the last several days I have found several ticks on both dogs. I had been told they may still bite, but will die and fall off within 24 hours. So I waited for this to happen (rather than risk leaving the head in again). 2, 3 days go by...tick is still in there, and now the other one has tick as well. So I call today, and ask for their help in removing the ticks, since I bought the medication there. The girl that answers the phone goes off and comes back, and says sorry, they can't help with that, they would charge an office visit. Oh, and by the way, the ticks will bite, and may stay attached, but don't worry they are dead. I indicated I wasn't satisfied with that, and she said she was sorry but they were unable to do anything further. So I hung up and took the dogs down to their regular vet; who found several ticks, alive and kicking. He removed them, free of charge. He also said the ticks shouldn't still be biting after the simparica. He said the vet that sold me the medication should give me my money back and provide alternative. I advised him they won't. So he gave me the med info for Simparica (made by Zoetis) and they said that it's not correct either- the ticks should be dead, and really shouldn't be attaching in the first place. Then the maker of the tick prevetative says to me "what good is tick med that still allows ticks on your dog?" Right!!!??? So they are supposed to send me an email as proof, and I am contesting the charge on my card for services not rendered since Vet on 4th couldn't spare 15 mins to stand by what they sold, submitted with my proof from the medication manufacturer. In the meantime, I got to thinking what a racket it is to sell preventive that didn't prevent or protect my dogs from tick bites, and then insist on paid vet visits to take care of the situation. I will be going back to regular vet from now on. Use Vet on 4th at your own peril. If they are going to nickel and dime over tick prevention, what do you think it will be like when it's serious? read more

On Sunday November 8, 2020, we took our 12-year-old Yorkie to The Vet on 4th for diarrhea, the same symptoms that our other Yorkie had two days earlier which was seen by our normal vet. Our Yorkies have had upset stomachs before so we thought it was not a big deal. At check-in the front desk girl went to consult with the vet and came back and told us we needed to stay in the car and they would need to run a Parvo test before we would be allowed in...I thought that was crazy but didn't want to have to deal with the diarrhea until Monday when our normal vet could see him so I went ahead and let them run the test. We prepaid them $151.45 waited in the car, the tech came and performed the test, went back in to run the test then came back out and told us the test was POSITIVE! We were in total disbelief by the news and asked how, when he has had all his vaccination every year on schedule and we have lived in the same house for 30 years. At that point, the tech told us we could come in now and start treatment. I told him we would consult with our vet tomorrow (Monday, November 9) he told me every hour counts so I needed to think about that. Therefore, I called our vet immediately for an emergency visit that evening. Our vet ran the same Parvo test and the results were NEGATIVE! To ease our minds he ran additional tests and lab work and everything was normal. THANK THE GOOD LORD! We asked for the paperwork from The Vet on 4th and once we finally got it, we could not believe the lies that were presented to us. They stated, "Patient presents to the clinic for possible parvo". The Physical Exam was filled out as if the vet saw our baby but she never laid eyes on him! On Monday, November 9, 2020, we received a call from The Vet on 4th checking on our baby. I told the front desk girl that I wanted to talk to the vet that ran the test but I am still waiting for her to call. I have also reached out to the owner of The Vet on 4th twice, once on Monday and once Tuesday November 10, 2020 and I am still waiting on a return call to discuss this visit on Sunday with him. I have never spoke negatively about anyone on any type of social media platform so this is out of character for me BUT if this review would help save someone else's baby from The Vet on 4th then it is worth it. read more
