***Update Oct 20,2025***…read more After finding them overbilling me, they've now requested and been granted release from representing me. Don't believe all of the fake reviews they've been piling on since I've left this review. This law firm are snakes and will rip you off if you have to do Chapter 13. ********** I've been overbilled thousands of dollars by Steve Berg. Steve would call me to ask me questions and would take a question that took 5 minutes to answer and turn it into a 45 - 60 minute call. Then he would call me again days later because he "misplaced" my answer. So, another 45-60 minute call. Then he would call a week or two later asking the same question. Each and every time I was billed for full hours for Steve Berg. I had suspected something was going on so I demanded all communication happen via email. Steve Berg got upset and stopped communicating completely, even important case issues. He emailed a couple of times but eventually went back yo his old tactics of multiple phone calls regarding the same issues over and over again. I've been billed for tax return review and submit to the trustee but then months later I get a notice that my return was never sent to the trustee and my case was set for dismissal as a result. When they did finally send them, they billed me again. This has happened twice.

He was very professional, understanding, knowledgeable and empathetic. He spent a lot of time with me on the free consultation and it felt he was more concerned and inquisitive about my situation than collecting a fee. He gave advice and helped me understand the laws concerning my call. Would highly recommend.

Attorney Knighton did a great job and was truthful about every step even if it's not what I wanted to hear. Every one I spoke too was helpful and I never felt left out in the cold. In the beginning I was quoted a fixed fee and they stuck to it. I'll admit that I had some sticker shock when I first saw it, but now that everything's done I feel lucky that I wasn't overcharged or billed hourly.

I did not expect a guaranteed outcome, but I absolutely expected someone who would know the law, prepare me for the process, communicate with me, and advocate for me in court. I did not receive that from Lindsey Houghton. From the beginning, I had to chase my own attorney for answers. Very little of the legal process was explained to me, and I was constantly calling and emailing with basic questions because I wasn't being kept informed. Responses were often delayed, leaving me to figure out far too much on my own. What was most frustrating was that I was initially told my role as the children's primary caregiver and my documented safety concerns would be central to our argument. Then, immediately before the first hearing, the strategy completely changed without any meaningful explanation. I walked into court completely unprepared for what was about to happen. The hearing itself lasted about ten minutes. Opposing counsel presented their position while my attorney offered virtually no advocacy for mine. When it was finally her turn to speak, she mumbled through her comments, was interrupted by the commissioner, and then simply stopped. She never redirected, never asked to finish, never made sure my position was fully presented, and never fought to have my concerns heard. Afterward, her explanation was essentially that the commissioner cut her off and there was nothing she could do. That answer was unacceptable to me. I didn't hire an attorney to give up the moment she was interrupted. That hearing set the tone for the rest of my case. My concerns were about the children's safety, yet I left feeling that I had been portrayed as a controlling parent instead. I expected my attorney to clearly distinguish between a parent raising legitimate safety concerns and a parent trying to control the other parent. She didn't. After the hearing, instead of discussing how to address what had happened or how to better present my case moving forward, I was told this was how things were going to be, that I needed to cooperate, and that if I wasn't happy, I could find another attorney. Looking back, I honestly feel like I paid thousands of dollars to have someone sit next to me while my case was pushed through the system. I could have represented myself, spoken for myself, and walked away with a better result without paying for representation that, in my experience, provided little meaningful value. I hired an attorney because I expected expertise and advocacy. I did not receive either, and I cannot recommend this attorney to anyone facing a custody case.
