The boys were defeated by the enormous slabs of gooey chocholate brownie cake. Just amazing. Of the five meals that did arrive, the mussels were almost uncooked; which can be dangerous, and the others were carverys which were mainly fat. The staff were divided into 12 year olds who didn't seem to know what they were doing and 'grown ups' who had obviously had so many complaints that they'd lost the will to live. The pub dates back to 16th Century, so expect very low beams as you walk in, you can not get to the bar without stopping a little. The walls are also covered with various menus from different restaurants, which it is worth asking the landlord about. I am sure this place would be a great spot in the summer, as it is on the river with tables outside on the patio area.

It is no longer so much a traditional pub as it appears from the outside, but more emphasis on the restaurant side of it. Fine with us, it was the only cooked food source within easy walking distance our cottage in the country. What good food it was, as good and wholesome as anything served in our 'foodie' neck of the woods here in the San Francisco Bay area. With cheeses like Winterdale Shaw, (they have their own dairy herd, and chalk lined cellar to mature the cheese in), and Bloomy Rinded Somerset Brie, it was a pleasure dining there.
