Antiques on High has the proper smell of old things and has an interesting range of antiques. Rather than focusing on big pieces of furniture, which so many antique shops do, it uses its space wisely to host: Jewellery, books, records, clothes, ornaments, pictures, maps and various collectables. The condition of the goods varies, but they're priced fairly reasonably. I find it's best to go in without the aim of buying something in particular, but just to browse. I can't say anything has ever caught my eye enough to want to buy it, but I've seen plenty of other people who have found the perfect addition to their home or the ideal gift. The best bit is the craft section, where there's a gallery of jewellery, leather, pottery, glass and art in general, all produced locally and all promising to be valuable antiques in the future. There's a great range in here and you can get something for less than a pound or spend hundreds of pounds. Equally, you can pop in for a few minutes or spend hours browsing - it's almost like a mini museum. If you like antique shops, this won't disappoint; if you've never been in one, try approaching it. Don't be put off by the prison-like bars in the windows; the staff are friendly and it's a different world inside.

In the sense that prices don't quite beat other markets such as Camden or Portabello. But I guess it depends what your after. Atmosphere though is fantastic. Especially in the summer, you can sit down with a ice cream or coffee and people spot whilst enjoying some of the free street performances. There is also a band located in the basement which fills the air with familiar classical tunes. In the winter the atmosphere is very different, warm, cosy and bustling.

However, this is a cute little antique store with a variety of things from furniture, to knick knacks, prints, etc. We came looking for antique furniture, and while they didn't have what we were looking for, we did find a pair of unique cufflinks. Location has ample free parking which is very convenient. It definitely has a little something for everyone.

I love this antique shop!…read more It is quite small, but crammed full of interesting bits and bobs, pretty furniture, silver, fine china and decorative glass. They also have some really nice jewellery at incredibly reasonable prices. I found my engagement ring here, after my fiancée and I had spent aaages traipsing around Hatton Gardens and other London antique shops... in London rings were either a little boring (well, similar designs again and again in each shop), or beautiful but completely out of our price range! The range of jewellery here isn't huge, but it is all good quality and really lovely, especially if you like things that sparkle from the 1920s-1930s. I actually just popped in here with my mum the first time, saw my lovely ring, and then had to wait a week before I could drag poor Marc all the way to Oundle to take a peek at it. Re-sizing was included in the price so a few weeks later we returned again to pick up my pretty, sparkly ring. Normally when you buy rings they lose half their value as soon as you walk out of the shop...but here we had the opposite experience. The insurance certificate they wrote out for us said that it would cost twice as much as we paid for it to replace the ring. This is probably correct as it cost about half the price of similar rings I saw in London. (Eep- I better not lose it!!) So Green man antiques offers amazing value as well as sparkles. The lady in charge of the shop, Vicky was really helpful, friendly and has excellent taste in shoes (well...she complemented me on my shoes anyway...)
