I asked if we could meet over the weekend for coffee as we do several times per year, he answered; "of course, but find us a place with an outdoor courtyard". That is how he and his nephew Nicholas would spend each morning - drinking coffee and tea outside in a beautiful courtyard, when my buddy visited his family each year. Of course, I knew we had to meet at Cafe Equinox in Shawnee. And so, we did meet there today. My buddy with a single origin cup of drip and me with an iced "Golden Hour" off of their Fall Seasonal menu - honey, turmeric, sea salt with espresso and milk - fantastic. We took our drinks to the cafe section of the greenhouse, found a quiet table amongst the foliage and flowering plants and he shared beautiful stories of his beloved "Niquito". From gritty daily life challenges of being a teen in current day rural Mexico to the magical surrealism of events that has impacted my friend since the tragic news broke. Thank you, Cafe Equinox / Thou Mayest and Family Tree Nursery for an idyllic spot to share stories and tears amongst your perfectly curated greenhouse cafe. I went to the other one on opening weekend but was rather disappointed. Don't deal with those crowds and support this cute Korean gift store. On my most recent trip, I bought an awesome tea cup with a built in tea basket for loose leaf tea. I bought an assortment of cute stationary and office items as well. Some fashion hair barrettes which I do think were a bit overpriced but other items were very reasonable. I regret passing on some cute slipper shoes. I'll take pics on my next visit. The store is packed with cute, kitschy, Korean gifts. I was there with a group of people and could have spent more time looking around if my group were not in a hurry. I'll go back when I can meander around even longer!

I ordered a seasonal iced peach latte - that had just a hint of peach sweetness to it and an otherwise caramel-y flavor - and got a spot right by the counter. The morning was temperate, so one of the garage doors at the front was open. As we reached noon, they closed the garage door to let the A/C do its thing. The main door otherwise opens into the sink room of the bathroom area, which is admittedly quirky-cute. My barista, Quinn, was super knowledgable and told us about the specials coming up this week to entice us back. She took some time to chat with me about why she loves working there, and both she and the other barista seemed to fit perfectly into the space. Thriving plants, lots of space to mingle or work - though, be prepared for someone to sit right next to you anyway - I wish I lived a little closer because this would absolutely be my new regular. As it is, I will be back often. Fun perk: convenient, big parking lot just north of the shop.
