Super convenient location for getting my CO2 canister refilled every few months. Can't say much about their beer or spirits collection because I only come here to cater to my out of control carbonated water addiction! The employees are always polite & helpful, I don't have to own the container or wait for my refill since they just simply swap the one you already put a deposit on until you're ready to return it for good. The price for the 10 lbs refill may not be the cheapest around ($30, I think!), but a few extra bucks is worth the convenience, and still saves me tons of money over getting my refills online. read more

Great craft beer shop in Jersey City if you are into that sort of thing. They have a good variety of different craft beers and the staff is very knowledge and friendly. They also have a board where the staff lists their favorites which comes in handy. They have spirits behind the register but you won't find a large selection as that is not their niche. Parking in this area can be a drag but they have a small parking lot right passed the entrance where about 2 or 3 cars can fit. Cheers! read more

They do more than have inventory: they curate a perfectly selected collection of spirits, beers, and other delights. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable, capable of addressing any possible question. In particular, Michael will go to the end of the earth and back again to satisfy a customer. Okay, full disclosure - I live around the block from this place. So my opinion may be skewed by that. But I've been in here a few times and here are my thoughts: 1. They sell everything, beer and wine and liquor and mixers, for prices that are average and reasonable for a neighborhood store. 2. Last time I was there, they had winter beer on sale. Beer? On sale? Awesome. 3. They sell singles, which is great for people like me who want to try everything once even when I'm pretty sure I won't like it. 4. All the homebrew stuff is up front and is really interesting looking. I can't say more than that, I don't know about homebrewing. 5. Staff has been awesome and friendly and chatty and helpful every time I've been in there. So, at least a 4-star store, plus one for staff helpfulness and the fact that it's run by a local Quaker. Great place however on the weekends they say they open up at noon but on about three separate occasions not including today, four occasions in all, no one is there and the store in fact doesn't open at noon. Not sure why other than I do know some of the employees are pot heads LOL not judging just saying. Anyway all in all I dig to is place just need to buckle down on some of the employees:) Update...dude finally gets here and doesn't know how to unlock the door! The ONE and ONLY store you should be buying craft beer from in Jersey City. Nice location, modest selection of cans, bottles, 4packs, 6packs, wine, liquor and a friendly, knowledgeable staff. Oh, and they are also a homebrew supply store and offer free beer tastings every Thursday from 6-8pm. Annnd they partner with Drizzly to deliver beer and wine straight to your door. This place has an incredible beer selection and a knowledgeable staff. If youre looking for a paeticular beer they will try to get it for you but keep in mind that the distribution laws in nj are very restrictive. You'll be hard pressed to find a comparable selection outside of BuyRite. What's not mentioned in the other posts is the back room is chock full of home brew supplies. They cater to both beer and wine homebrewing which is killer because the closest place is in Clifton and brooklyn. Its scoop your own for grains and they ll gladly grind it for you at checkout. Oh and they have private parking. Get to know these guys and they bend over backwards for you. Welcome to the neighborhood! read more

A TON of craft beer selections, decently priced. The guys there always have recommendations. Really nice little shop with a friendly staff and fun eclectic craft beer collection.y boyfriend and I went in looking for pumpkin beers that we haven't tried before and there were soooo many brands to chose from. When we were checking out the two working there were a little quiet but very friendly and willing to answer any of our questions. They were in the process of harvesting their very own hops from the bs l yard! Very cool, will come again. read more

I love craft beer. I've been around to all the liquor stores in the area and this place has a great selection. I heard of this place of a while ago before they opened in the fall and I've been anticipating it since. Totally pleased in the end. Craft beer is their main thing and man they got a ton. Lot's of breweries and specialty beers that other liquor stores don't get in stock. The owner goes out of his way to update the website with every shipment of new beer!! Super friendly owner and he knows his stuff. I made my way to the back of the shop and took a peek in the grain room. Wall to wall grain bins. I'm not a homebrewer but it's cool to know I can walk over to the Thirsty Quaker and get all the supplies I need to make my first beer. They got a parking lot as well. There was a previous review that was 'not recommended' by Philip S. But he hit the nail on the head. Good selection of beers but awful customer service. Don't get a "hello, can I help you?" Nothing! I saw the owner of the Thirsty Quaker speak for a few minutes at DIY event at Hoboken Library. His description of the shop interested me enough that a friend and I walked over to it afterward. While home brewing is a bit labor intensive for me to pick up at the moment, the staff did convince me that making hard cider is extremely reasonable and fantastic. They're knowledgeable and friendly and have a great selection of beers and ciders, if you are not taking the leap into home brewing. This place is my boyfriend's dream come true. Think of an obscure craft beer and they probably have it. They are also super helpful and friendly and you can tell craft beer is their passion. Well now there's no need for me to go to Buyrite in Jersey City anymore. The Thirsty Quaker is hands down the best craft beer store in the area, possibly in the entire state of dirty Jerz. Remember the feeling you would get by walking into a record shop and browsing and being able to talk to the staff about their favorite new albums? Well this place has the same vibe, just with beer! These guys are passionate about beer and that's displayed in their knowledge, enthusiasm and the selection they have available. There is a solid representation of NJ brews, other domestics and imports. They even have brewing equipment and supplies. I'm only giving a four star review because this place is new and has plenty of room for improvement and growth. On to the establishment! This place makes me want to brew my own beer. If I had the room in my home I would begin immediately and I would have them set me up. This is the only place I have been to in person in the NYC region that has such a strong focus on brewing beer. The beer selection is very good. They carry some stuff I haven't seen elsewhere in the area (Manhattan included). Off the top of my head there's Southern Tier, Great Divide, Epic, Stone, Lagunitas, Ommegang, Long Trail, Port Brewing, Magic Hat... Their wine and liquor selections are much smaller but very thoughtful. I'm pretty sure you can't find a bottle of anything for $1000 or more, but you also won't find a $5 bottle of wine or liquor. There are spirits from beer breweries such as Ballast Point and Rogue. I have no other intel to offer regarding their wine. I will be buying my beer here and encouraging others to do the same. read more

Regular Thursday evening tastings are always a welcome chance to try before buying. Great selection and the service is what I prefer at a liquor store: hands-off if you just want to browse and very helpful if you have questions. The wine/liquor/cider selection's decent for being a small shop and the beer is quality with a lot of NJ breweries' offerings in stock as well as craft beer from across the country and around the world. It's been mentioned their prices are a bit higher than Buy Rite but I can walk to Thirsty Quaker vs. driving to Buy Rite--so for me that balances out. read more

This place is awesome! Great selection and they are super knowledgeable. I came here seeking a nice beer to get my friend for her birthday. I spoke with Melissa the beer manager. I described exactly what my friend was into and Melissa gave me a few options. We narrowed it down to something new that we thought she would love. Melissa was right and my friend loved the beer (green flash IPA.) The staff is super nice in here (and Melissa was really funny too!) They aren't snobby and they genuinely want to help you. I will be back and have already recommended the thirsty quaker to my friends. We also walked out of there with some free Brooklyn Brewery buttons and stickers. read more

Was very excited to try this place after reading all the reviews. Walked in on a Friday mid afternoon. Was the only customer in the shop. No greeting, only got a half hearted wave after I made eye contact and said hello. No "Can I help you find something?" Beer selection is very good..not outstanding. Still made a nice purchase, a bottle of Mongo and Avery Maharishi. Got a mumbled thank you. I don't know, every place has an off night. Maybe the counter guy was new, or maybe he was the owner's brooding nephew who was being forced to work that day. I will try this place again and hopefully have a better experience. If so will change my rating of this place. Guys, you need to work on customer service. read more
