After several years of unsuccessful attempts to quit smoking, i went to meet with Steve Burns at The Therapy Lounge in a last ditch attempt to kick the habit. I had experienced hypnotherapy on a number of previous occasions. All were successful for a short period of time, however, once the magic wore off, i found myself reaching for the cigarettes once again.
After a few minutes of meeting Steve, it was clear his approach was different. His manor and way of communicating was extremely relaxed and friendly, I felt like I was talking to someone who I'd known for a long time and to someone who genuinely cared.
We spent the first session talking about cigarettes and the hold they have over an individual, what we believe the benefits to be and how they supposedly make you feel better. Through the session we deconstructed this belief system and began to set the mind working on how to change the way I looked at cigarettes.
All of my other experiences with hypnotherapy had just been a case of sitting down and letting the magic happen, this was much different. The session was informative and enlightening, leaving me with a sense of excitement as i left the room.
On returning a week later and carrying out all the homework Steve had set me, we set about the hypnotherapy side of the treatment. After an initial chat with Steve, it was clear I had changed my beliefs towards smoking and was ready for the chair. I went under very quickly and of course have never smoked again. Whenever I do think about smoking, all of the background treatment comes into play and prevents me from even thinking about picking up a cigarette.
The Therapy Lounge's approach is different because they make you understand why smoking isn't good for you and you look at it with a different perspective once you've completed the treatment. It is much more involved and therefore the longevity is far greater.
I couldn't recommend Steve and his team highly enough, so much so, I returned later in the year for different therapy. read more
