The Theatre Royal in Bath's city centre is one of the most beautiful and oldest in the UK. Steeped in history, it is a perfect play to see a traditional play, rather than a modern a musical. I first visited the Theatre when I watched The Glass Menagerie with Brenda Blethyn (I mean, she was in the play. Oh, how I wished I watched it WITH Brenda Blethyn!)
I was struck by how elegant the architecture was; everthing from the balcony to the boxes had a gold finish with plush red seats. Opened in 1705, but having undergone countless renovations, the theatre is still going strong and regularly brings in some of the biggest names in theatre including Jonathan Pryce and Sir Ian Mckellen.
Tickets are on sale at typical theatre prices (around £30 - 40 for the stalls) which I think is worth it when you're watching a must-see show. Keep an eye on the website for current listings. read more
