Absolutely pick up one of the free self-directed audio tour guides. At most of the costume displays, there is a number on the wall. Key the number into the audio guide and the narrator will point out interesting things you might otherwise miss and worthwhile history. For some of the modern pieces, the actual designer is interviewed. A couple of the displays are interactive (for the kids at least). Learned a lot about the royals and what they wore, and also just what people in general wore, how and why fashion changed. We were welcomed immediately upon entering and never felt any sense of pressure to hurry through the gallery. If anything, we could have (and maybe should have) stayed a bit longer to take it all in - there's plenty of seats in which to sit back and do so. But I appreciate all that we saw, including (but not limited to): 'The Bride of Death' painting by Thomas Jones Barker (I was taken with all the symbolism within what is essentially one story frame), Edwin Whitney-Smith's 'The Scarab' bronze statue, and - much to my surprise - the white cabinets against the walls of the room that are positively filled with pullout drawers housing watercolors and pencil sketches of Bath, Somerset, and England (one in particular caught my eye: it was the view looking down on Bath from Alexandra Park, and I had literally just come from the same physical vantage point [and couldn't help but compare my modern day phone photo to the piece of art from the 1800's). I am sure that if we were locals that we'd attend any number of the amazing community focused events they host throughout the year as well. Here's the thing: if art is not your thing... don't come. However: if you love art, even if you just kinda like art, if history and/or art are at all fascinating to you, if you only really like one artist and they carry one of their pieces, you should absolutely come here. It's not an all day affair (the gallery is actually quite small), so give yourself an hour or two and enjoy just another corner of how incredible the city of Bath really is.

Its worth a visit for to hear the history of the Beckford family but the view from the tower is not as good as I thought it would be. I've been twice and it wasn't busy either time, which is good as the staircase is narrow and the top viewing areas can only accomodate a handful of people at a time.

For the savory bun of choice, I chose the Smoked Salmon and for the sweet course, the Cinnamon Butter Bun. While I am not a tea drinker, I loved every moment of it. It was a lot of fun to have a tea party and the food was more than I had expected. If you're not able to eat at Sally Lunn's, they also sell their famous buns by the box!

First and foremost, the hen & Chicken is a pub - and a good one at that! It is big, set over a couple of levels and has a really nice central bar. While all very standard, they serve a decent selection of ales, ciders, largers and spirits. It's everything you'd expect from a pub bar. The atmosphere and clientele differs slightly from day time to night time, when during the day you'll find a full range of people, and night times being a slightly younger crowd. From Friday night and over the weekend, it gets very lively, is open later and has a great atmosphere. They also do some really good comedy night in their comedy room upstairs. I've never ben to one, but the line up for Jan/Feb looked great and I've heard from others that it's really good. Definitely one I need to check out! The Sunday lunch wasn't amazing; the beef was lovely and the Yorkshire pub was also really good, but as a lover of veg, I was a bit let down. The gravy was super tasty, but was really thin and didn't really stick to anything, so didn't really add any flavour to the rest of the food, which was a real shame. I've become a bit of a roast dinner snob lately and although the rare beef (which tasted deliciously rare but wasn't pink) and Yorkshire were really lovely, veg is important to me. I got powdery potatoes, soggy carrots and parsnips and tasteless cabbage. It's like they knew because they hid it underneath the ginormous Yorkshire and tender beef (which made it all even soggier!). It was all a bit luke warm too. We paid extra for cauliflower cheese but this was just raw cauliflower with a tiny bit of cheese sauce dribbled on top. The veggie roast and burger didn't look great either. And how can it be called the Hen and Chicken and chicken isn't an option on the roast menu? It's lamb or beef! Maybe it's to protect the chickens! We went for a family birthday meal and I had a great time. The staff were accommodating to our big table and the service was good. The pub itself is very cool. The decor is quite wooden and arty and there's a nice beer garden out the back. Upstairs they do comedy and that looks like a very fun and popular thing to do of an evening. The bar was fully stocked and the drinks were nice. Overall I'd dodge the food but definitely go again for an amazing atmosphere and very cool place to hang out with friends and family. The Bristol Observatory is a worthy place to visit. Located above the river Avon and behind the…read moreSuspension Bridge you can have a stunning few over Bristol with the famous bridge within. The tower, once a windmill for corn, was builded in 1766. It was also used to grind snuff. In 1777, after a strong wind blow down the windmill, it was renovated by an artist called William West. He transformed the windmill into the tower we can visit this very day. William West installed the Camera Obscura on the top of the tower, included a box, a convect lens and a sloping mirror to reflect the picture. With this old-fashioned camera you can have a fantastic 360 degree view of the area around the tower. You have to pay a small amount to go into the tower, which is totally worth it. If you go through the other door to go down, please be aware of the narrowness of the tunnel. The steps are slight and irregular, but there is always a balustrade to hold on. If you get though the tunnel you will be rewarded with a stunning few of the Suspension Bridge. The tunnel and the cave behind were once used as a chapel. But the chapel broke down into the gorge long ago. The local people had three names for the cave: St. Vincent's Cave, Giant's Cave or Ghystone's Cave. All in all it is worth to pay this small entrance fee to see the fascinating Camera Obscura and the cave below. Choose a bright day to visit and have fun.

I recently visited the 360 coffee shop Café at Clifton Observatory. Overall, my experience was…read moredecent. The café itself is very small, which makes it tricky to move around when it's busy. I ordered an iced caramel latte, portion size was generous and the drink tasted decent. The real highlight was the rooftop seating area, from where you get a stunning view of the Clifton Suspension Bridge, which looked absolutely breathtaking in the light drizzle on the day I visited. That view alone made the trip worthwhile.
