It is a bit of a drive but we had heard good things and decided to give it a try. I called in to check about reservations this past Thursday for dinner for two for the following night, Friday. I asked if a reservation was necessary and they said it is recommended so I set up our reservation for 7 PM Friday. We arrived a few minutes early and waited at the hostess station until 7:10 when the hostess showed up. She confirmed our reservation and said she had to check on our table. After 5 minutes or so she came back and apologetically said that it would be another 10 minutes so we went to the bar at 7:15. We waited another 10 minutes before finally being asked what we wanted to drink which was served about 5 minutes later. At 7:35 the hostess said our table was ready and we were escorted to it. The dining area was full and there were two large tables that seemed to be part of the same group and they were finished with dinner but were now drinking heavily. My guess is that they were tying up their many tables. After being at our table for 10 minutes we were brought over some rolls and butter and asked what we wanted to drink. We took the opportunity to order as well to get the show on the road. My wife ordered their salmon and I ordered the ribeye and both of us ordered a salad. We got the water and iced tea we asked for a few minutes later but the salads never showed up. At 8:05 we had enough and left. The server seemed surprised when I told her that then I said we had a 7 o'clock reservation and that over an hour later, we were still waiting for our salad with no main course in sight. Our evening was saved when we went to Tazwell and had a steak and salmon at the Rail Spikes Steaks. Great service and the best ribeye and salmon ever! I always look for the good and try to give grace on my reviews but our Woodlake Steak House experience was terrible. I don't blame the staff as they were kind and friendly. They said one of the servers called in sick. Management was not visibly present as far as I could tell. A good manager would be there in the mix, working to fill in for the staffing shortfall and talking to folks like us that were getting such poor service. As Jerry Seinfeld once said, "See, you know how to take the reservation, you just don't know how to hold the reservation. And that is really the most important part of the reservation: the holding. Anyone can just take them."

The owners are rude and a few other things We divided our 4-some up and played best ball to be efficient because they're still learning the game. We even let 2 groups play through because we were told no one was behind them. Ironically neither of those groups used the 90 degree rule, driving straight up the middle of the course Halfway through our 9 holes we recognized we were causing a backup to a pair playing behind us. We were running to get the balls not being used and occasionally didn't drive exactly 90 degrees but only at slight angles to try be as quick as possible Turns out the course owners were behind us and complained to the rangers that we be reprimanded because we weren't playing the 90 degree rule. Funny thing, neither were they. Understand it's their course but you'd think they would lead by example. Wont be returning Thanks to everyone else who made the 7.5 holes a great memory. Hope our play satisfied the owners on the last 1.5 holes

Course was packed 8 minutes apart on tee times. Guys hit into us on hole 6 as we are on the green (…read morethe group in front of us just got to 7s tee box). One ball misses me by 5 foot second about hits playing partner. Guy behind us says ," You all are playing to slow I hit into on purpose to speed up we have 10 groups behind us. " I shout back the group in front just got to the box and they are waiting too. Called the pro shop Ranger did absolutely nothing. Said can't believe either side. Why would I call the pro shop if it was an accident? people miss hit or don't see people all the time. This goon straight up said " I did it on purpose.". if you want to play go somewhere else. apparently this course supports people trying to harm you.

First off, I called ahead of time to confirm that the tee-time for 6pm I saw available online was still available. The grumpy old wrinkly prick who looks like a saggy sack rudely dismissed my question and said "tee time? We don't do those. Just show up and find out." We were making an hour long trip to get there which is why I called in the first place. Once we got there his attitude somehow got worse despite what we were expecting based on past experiences at other local courses. My friend and I had pre paid for golf cards that covered our visit through a local radio station and this man aggressively scribbled haphazardly on it instead of nicely checking the box like he should've. Our 2 other friends had to go in to pay and he was extremely rude to them as well. We had some fun golfing at first considering the awful condition of the course but once we got to the 7th hole the rude nasty man from earlier rode up to us on his golf cart to yell at us. He informed us that he received complaints of us taking carts onto the green and through the woods which we absolutely did not do. The closest thing I can think of is when one of my friends went to retrieve a ball she hit into the trees. He didn't give us the option to finish the 2 holes we paid for and instead told us we had to leave. He then proceeded to lead us through the green on the carts which is supposedly why they were asking us to leave. He also had been operating his cart under the influence of coors light and had an open container while driving. I have never felt so disrespected as not only a paying customer but also a woman. Never come here if you want to have a good time on a course.

They pile up the tee times and do nothing to enforce golf etiquette and rules like not allowing groups behind from hitting into you. There are two long par threes over water and another hole where the back two tee boxes still leave you crossing water to the fareway. The scenery alone makes this course desirable and locals and golf enthusiasts will know it as the old River Island's course in Kodak, TN. Road signs near the course will still read River Islands. From a golf perspective this course is lacking in several aspects: there are no ball washing stations anywhere on the course, or the carts, yardage signs on the tee boxes seem to disappear after the second or third hole, and we had a 'ranger' that kept pushing us throughout our play, even though no one was within sight behind us. The price tag of $70 per person is more of a tourist rate than rates you will find in the Knoxville area for courses of similar or better condition. This course is a beautiful layout, in a gorgeous setting, but it is not being maintained to the level of $70 per player rates. I was disappointed.
