I was so excited when I finally found this little shop after wandering around the time zone that is Afflecks Palace. This place sells all the favs from dip daps, nerds and wham bars to 10 flavours of bon bons, midget gems, pineapple cubes, lager tops and so on and on and on and on..... all priced at 75p per 100g! They should change the saying from "cheap as chips" to "chip as the sweets in Retro Sweets in Afflecks Palace". A big surprise was the selection of Wonka sweets available. I have only ever seen a few varieties in Selfridges but this was just simply amazing! I can't even remember the names of them there were so many! We came away with a bag full of sweets for only £4 and were well happy! :) Shall be my new fav sugar haven.

You can buy sweets or chocolates that you haven't seen for a while or stock up on all your favourites. I love the clear packaging your sweets are wrapped in to take home. They have a few sugar free items too so not everything is bad for your teeth. They have goody bags for kids and hampers as gifts. Located in the heart of the Chester city centre, a must for tourists or the locals.

Its also a great place to go to get those last minute gifts you forget about. they have sweetie gift sets made up, and some hampers, all at reasonable prices. these are usually seasonable so for example, at halloween, you can find little sets with halloween sweets and the same at christmas. It may be quite a small store, but the vast array of different kinds of sweets more than makes up for the cramped surroundings. the staff are really friendly and know everything there is to know about their sweets. which is ideal if you are buying fro someone with allergies.

Sweet Memories is attractive, however I must say it's not very traditional, to me the name inspires images of a 'ye olde sweete shoppe' filled with old toffees and fudges and sweets from years and years ago, but really it's just a sweet shop, much nicer than a newsagents but a sweet shop nonetheless. There were some old classics in stock. The shop is really clean and tidy, it's a pleasant place to browse and clearly popular with locals as it was quite busy. There are some sweets that probably were first made/intervened a long time ago, but are still quite common even in big shops like Tesco and Asda. But there is a wide selection, and you can buy as much or as little as you like since it's done by weight. The walls of the shop are lined with various jars of sweets in all shapes, sizes, colours, and flavours.

There is such a selection its awesome! Most of these I had as a kid and so it's great to see them still around. I think the ones I got particularly excited to see where the chocolate flavoured fruits - sort of tasty and horrible all at the same type, but you still eat them, which is quite an achievement for a sweet, don't you think. You can even ask for 2 ounces, a quarter or half a pound of any sweets you desire, if you really want to go back down memory lane. There are also sweets that haven't been around so long, but still yummy!

Everything from Strawberry Bon Bons, Drumsticks, Sherbet Flying Saucers to Uncle Joe's Mint Balls never fails to impress. The smell of sweets as you enter and the rainbow of colours is truly fantastic. Plus, if you like ice cream, it's all handmade here and they offer many favourite and unique flavours. And the same applies to sweets too - some flavours were out of the ordinary, including Dandelion and Burdock favloured boiled sweets but as they sounded ever more odd, they sounded ever more exciting. Time to grab a bag and re-visit memory lane at the appropriately named Sweet Memories!
