My wife has been here a few times and she really wanted me to try it with her one day so Saturday…read morewas my first Anjali experience and contrary to some of the previous reviews I couldn't have been more pleased! When we checked in we were given complementary towels as well as yoga mats Since we didn't have any of the supplies necessary. Our teacher for our class, Susan was there to welcome us and since I was a first timer she asked me questions about my previous yoga (which is basically nil) so she could ensure I got the most out of my experience that morning. She was able to offer me individual help during the class as well since I'm not nearly as advanced as most in the class appeared to be! Even before the class started some of the other guys in the class were offering encouragement to me as a first timer, it's a hot class and boy do you sweat!! Like I said Susan was there to offer me options for some of the moves that I couldn't quite handle and after it was all done I honestly felt like I was gonna have a great day! It was super invigorating and I can't wait till were back in Avalon and I get to do this again! Btw, this is a hot yoga so the sweat was pouring off me but when the class was done they sanitized our loaner mat and did likewise for the floors which is great, it doesn't smell like an old gym in here, they do a nice job of keeping it clean!!

I've been to this studio once before, end of last season 2013, and had a pleasant experience…read more Unfortunately today's experience left a bad taste in my mouth. I registered early online and thought that I was set for a great morning practice. Upon arrival I saw it was going to be crowded- no prob, it's the weekend and I knew plenty of yogis would be at the shore! I set up my mat and was ready for class to begin. After a growing line of people arrived to register , the teacher told us we had to move our mats to touch the person beside us and now expect a "modified class" because "that's just how it is." I didn't move my map quick enough or close enough I guess because the teacher told me to get up so she could do it right. She was also just picking up other peoples belongings and moving them that she thought didn't register yet. At $17 a class, i did not sign up for a modified class where I was literally sweating on top of my neighbor. ( you need at least a 3 inch buffer around the edge if your mat- what if you needed to use the bathroom during class? You would have been walking ON people's mats since there was not an inch of flooring left) I know that this abrasive, money hungry attitude of the manager really made me think that perhaps the experience was not about the practice but rather seeing how much money she could rack in at the start of the summer. I've practiced in some tight spaces but today's class, in the hot environment, would have been completely unacceptable( and not to mention, against the occupancy code for a building). I quietly asked the owner for a refund since I was not staying to be a part of this and she had an attitude with me. Being that she was clearly making more money than normal with the sea of sardine yogis spread across the floor, I thought she would have said no problem. Not so. She told me to wait outside to see is she could pack more people in and then "she would see." I'm just really taken back by the un yoga like behavior of the manager and teachers. Beware of this potential environment if you choose to practice at this Avalon studio in the summer months.
