I…read morebring my younger son to the gym so he can play basketball, but the courts are often dominated by older men who take up the space for extended periods of time. Unfortunately, things frequently get heated, with verbal exchanges and behavior that feels like it could escalate into physical altercations. In the six weeks I've been coming here, at least four of those weeks have involved some type of incident on the basketball court that caused people to rush over to address an issue. This has made the environment feel unsafe, especially for children. I do not feel comfortable allowing my son to be in the facility without me present. Today was especially disappointing. Our side of the court was following the rules and not involved in any issue, yet we were told to leave because the gym was closing 10 minutes early. A manager approached us abruptly without any apology or acknowledgment of the inconvenience, which felt very disrespectful. The gym itself remained open, but the entire court was shut down, and there was no advance notice of the closure. I did speak with the manager, who stated this is their policy whenever there is an altercation. However, given how frequently these situations occur, this policy feels poorly managed and unfair to members who are not involved in any wrongdoing. Additionally, the overall customer service has been lacking. Very few staff members appear welcoming or engaged, and the experience today highlighted a lack of professionalism and empathy toward members. I would like to enjoy the services this gym offers, but the recurring altercations, lack of communication, inconsistent enforcement of rules, and poor customer service make it difficult to feel safe or valued as a member.

In addition to exercise, the rec is always buzzing with community activities like arts festivals, kids karate classes and Senior dance lessons. You can also rent space there for parties and family gatherings at a really low rate. The only drawbacks would be the weekend hours (they don't open until 1pm on Sundays) but I can deal with that given the dollars saved by switching our gym membership to the rec center.

They have nice size rooms to host baby showers, bridal showers, weddings, birthdays, & family reunions. It is beautiful and your decor can be built up to your taste. They also have a fitness center with really decent equipment. They offer fitness classes like Zumba... They have a walking trial and also offer swim classes. This is great for the indoor pool that they have. You will always have some kind of league playing Basketball at their courts. It also offers a great summer camps for kids who are out from school. The place is always clean and you can really find a great deal on monthly membership for their fitness center.

The grand hall overlooks a lake and features beautiful floor to ceiling windows allowing us to take in the outdoor views. Plenty on space for the small wedding, cocktail hour, and reception. I have yet to find one that is both really new and also really popular and has no issues. However one thing I have noticed is that a lot of them have really friendly service, and the people working here are so nice it was ridiculous. They kept coming up and asking if we needed anything because we had been in a hurricane. And if they could get us some snacks, drinks, and so on... and they were just so nice and empathetic and sympathetic and friendly and they did not need any kind of security check to let us in their facility - we got in straight away. As for their facilities it was a bit of a mixed bag. The cardio stuff is generally good but they don't seem to have any of the kinds of bikes that I need, so I would never be able to use this gym regularly. The machines were okay, but some of them are really old and rusty and made weird creaking noises which makes them really difficult to use. The leg machines are absolutely awesome. They are just like the ones in our favorite gym. But even newer. However the free weights were a real problem. All of the Dallas gyms seem to have the iron grip kind which are hard to hold and a little rough on your hands, and these particular ones seem like they had been bought in the 1950s at the latest. So it wasn't much of a good experience especially considering the benches felt like they were made of wood and were extremely uncomfortable. As for the mats, they would have been okay except they felt they were they were from the 1920s, so they were very dirty and old and worn down and were not the kind of mats that you would want to lay on unless you're really dirty like me. I'm so dirty. The showers are pretty good but the pegs are away across the room from where they need to be, so I don't know how anybody would use them while showering. Parking is okay and is right in front of the door with a little bit of a walk. Overall it's a really nicef acility with some issues and the service and employees go way above and beyond what we have experienced in most YMCA locations. 10 stars for the employees. 3 for the facilities. Averages to 4. Now I'm Grand Prairie Dogging so I have to gtfo.

We went on a tour of the facility and felt good about the many opportunities. With workout equipment, a lap pool, basketball courts and rentable community rooms, this Y seems to have a lot and it's very well-located. I came here specifically for the library, which is housed in the building. I'm on Aunt duty with my…read morepre-K niece and wanted to visit the library for some early reader books. The library is smaller but they have a solid selection of kids books. This place is a gold mine for bilingual/Spanish speakers as many books in the early reader section were for Spanish speakers. They participate in a 1,000 books program for preschool kids where you can check out a book bag with 10 books for your little one and it counts as one item, which is great for voracious kid readers. Added bonus, there is a small playground to the side of the Life Center which we visited after our trip. Outside of the library there is also a gym with weights in this building ($11/month) that is currently open. Everything else is closed right now, but still a good place to visit for what is currently open.

Another important factor is cleanliness and age of equipment. It was very clean and they provide equipment cleaning wipes, which is a MAJOR plus in my books. The equipment is up-to-date, specifically the treadmill. I like my equipment to be modern and plentiful. I haven't tried the pool yet, but my main focus and goal, is the fitness area. It is definitely worth the price, and you don't have to worry about overpaying fees for a whole family!

The Saxon squat machine was a fun one to trial. Not worth a $20 day pass IMO.
