I came during the offseason since my son's had a field trip in the area. One of the spots that you can get coffee later in the afternoon. They have lot of tybee items souvenirs to choose from. This place was great to see and visit. I bought a souvenir and a small cone with butter pecan ice cream. The two ladies were working very hard and fast. The place was fun, colorful, plenty of candy to choose from, ice cream, tables outside and they also rent out bikes and golf carts. Tour trains also pick up here. I felt like a kid again! This place is adorable! Outside there are ice cream cone seats, m and m figures, and several cute photo opportunities. Inside there's a bit of everything -- all sorts of jelly bean flavors and candies by the pound plus nostalgic candies and chocolates. Then there are the pastries and coffees. Oh, did I forget to say ice cream? This is the perfect snack place or after dinner "dessert" location. We wound up with some different candies, taffies, and jelly beans. Plus the gal working the counter was so nice and personable. We wound up having a long conversation, too. So... everything here was just okay. I'm from a place that set the bar pretty high though and the south can't compete with the West Coast (it's only my opinion). They were super busy and based upon the time and day they're probably always busy (It's definitely a place for the locals). Most of the candy I bought I didn't like the texture, I felt like the guy in the white shirt was h*** and over charged me. I literally got a small cookies n'cream and a small bag of candy and paid $17. The price took me back but there was a lot going on so I just let it go because I knew I probably wouldn't be back anytime soon. The ice cream and sitting outside in a ice cream cone while I ate it was the best part. It's really a place that would make a child happy for sure and possibly take someone back to a childhood moment. Ridiculously EXPENSIVE and not even on the beach. We took a group of girls there as part of my daughter's birthday trip to beach. Some grabbed candy, which is bagged and priced by weight. A modest size portion of candy cost $20! We paid $60 for 3 bags of candy!!! The ice cream was priced more like most ice cream shops. Just skip the candy, or skip the store altogether. read more

The Sugar Shack is a cute little shop to come for ice cream. I was really excited that they had peach ice cream, something I was hoping to try while on my Georgia vacation. It was delicious and very creamy! There is a shop inside that sells candy and other merchandise, then you go into the next room to order your ice cream. The employees were friendly. While we were there, one of the employees was particularly rude to me and my friends who came in while the parlor was not busy. He was visibly agitated when two of my friends asked for a milkshake, practically groaning and telling his coworker to do it instead. By the time we got to the register, he was completely silent, and only stared while the "Tip" option came up on the screen. Without even a "thank you" or a "have a good day", he moved on to the next customer. If that wasn't bad enough, everything was incredibly expensive (a small milkshake was $15, and a single scoop was $6). It's sad this business has declined, because it used to be a wonderful spot on Tybee to get great service and ice cream for a fair price. I would not recommend coming here unless you want to empty your wallet and get glared at. If you like ice cream, you'll like it here. We only got some standard ice creams here, a couple waffle cones and a hot fudge sundae and was good. There is a descent selection of ice creams here, but we just ordered simple so can't speak for any of the toppings or other options. I'm not sure what the service is like when it's slow, but there was a steady stream of people coming in so it was really about getting folks through as fast as possible. Luckily I knew what I wanted so I didn't feel rushed. My cup was about $11 and I really enjoyed everything. I tried flavors I don't usually get on the West Coast and I'm a sucker for a waffle cup. We went in to just look around and immediately the guy behind the main cashier counter started being very rude in our face about what we were looking at. we tried to just ignore him and look at candy. then, when we got to the counter to pay, he was rude to my boyfriend and claimed he was trying to skip out paying for the cone he got (he was not, he just didn't know to say he got a single scoop WITH a cone. Which the cashier could obviously SEE.) for my bag of candy, the price was wayyy more expensive than i thought. i couldn't pay that much. i asked if i could take half of what i picked out, but he said no. either i pay the price or leave and never come back. i left, obviously. i'm a waitress and people send their food back all the time just because they didn't like it or it wasn't what they thought. i would never talk to a customer the way their cashier talked to me. The service was good. The guy behind the counter was nice and courteous. The malt was ok, good for $5 but not so good for $8. The 16oz malt is $7.95. The value here is horrible. I get paying for the location but better ice cream across the street at Savannah Praline is less expensive. It might be ok if the facility were cleaner and newer but it is not. I genuinely like the sugar shack--it's big amounts of ice cream for a fair price, super lively that both locals and tourists stop by when in town. The line may seem long sometimes but the staff moves quickly. There's tons of seating to accommodate for their big audience, lots of outdoor seating since we're at the beach. I'm taking stars off because my mom and I had a bout of food poisoning related to the sugar shack--we shared a cone and double scoop of vanilla chocolate chip and coffee that upset our stomachs several hours later in the evening. A little shocked because I've never had food poisoning for ice cream. I don't want this to deter anyone from going to a local business, but be careful! This is not old fashioned homemade ice cream. They sell blue bell at triple the prices. Blue bell contains high fructose syrup. No one adds high fructose syrup to their home made ice cream. Also no non-dairy options. Spent $60 dollars on a fake tattoo and double scoop for my niece. Don't recommend! The Sugar Shack made me the most amazing hot fudge sundae ever! We went not long before closing but made it in time. The gentleman that waited on us was very friendly. My Sunday was huge! It had tons of hot fudge and lots of nuts which I loved. And the ice cream flavor was delicious. I couldn't even eat the whole thing, but I got pretty close lol. There are tons of hand dipped ice cream selections, plus soft serve as well. They also serve food. And from the large order that was being picked up in front of us it must be decent. This place is pretty close to the beach. There's a large dining room as well as a large outside patio with tables and chairs. I would definitely recommend checking them out. Stopped in for some late night ice cream after dinner with the family and was amazed at the amount of people in line :) that's usually a good sign , but what really impressed me was the speed and professionalism that the staff was able to serve everyone. This place was cute in passing so I had high hopes for their ice cream. Walking in, I immediately noticed the lack of cleanliness. The floors, the counter, the windows, eating area outside... it wasn't easy on the eyes. The gentleman behind the counter was very friendly. I'm giving him the two stars. My kids got strawberry milkshakes and I got a hot fudge sundae. They didn't finish their milkshakes for one reason or another. My sundae was literally inedible. It had waaaaay too much fudge so it melted the ice cream immediately. I took three or four bites before giving up and trashing it. I never got a single bite of ice cream.
