Favorite fish and chips of all time!! The fish is so fresh you can literally see them bringing in…read morethe fish from the sea just out the window while you are eating. The fried fish was not greasy or heavy, but had a super light, golden and crispy outer coating and inside the fish was super tasty and just melted in your mouth. The chips were equally delicious! The atmosphere is great with wonderful views throughout its cozy dining room and friendly service too. Just remember to get there early since it is a popular spot.

More fish and chips!…read more Well this time with a difference. This one is easy to miss if you don't know it's there, and you'd wish you hadn't if you do miss it! Why? Because this is simply the BEST fish and chips Elle and I have ever had! Better then Knights in Glastonbury with their awards, better than King's in St. Leonards who we went to at the beginning of the week of our holiday. Excellent in fact. If you like fish and chips and are in Hastings you won't regret going to Maggie's. If you don't know where they are it's difficult to get to from the main road. And as I say, you'll wish you knew they were there! The restaurant has odd hours of business too, so this can throw a lot of people if they're expecting to turn up and eat. There business hours are Tuesday to Sunday 12noon till 3pm, and Friday and Saturday 6pm till 8pm. We walked off the street at about noon, but they were full already! So we made a reservation for around 2.00 when there would be less people around. We went off did some shopping for an hour and then came back. (we'd heard about how good the fish and chips was, so we wanted to eat there rather than go elsewhere.) We were shown to our table, the staff were very pleasant and friendly with a nice family atmosphere. Once again we both had cod and chips, Elle almost forgoing the chips as they usually give her too many. But she was very pleased she didn't. We also had a couple of cans of soda and shared some mushy peas. Our food was served quickly (within 15minutes) with no issues. The cod batter was super light and crispy, the cod flaked away with the touch of a fork and was delicious! The chips were crispy, fresh, no hint of oil and were delicious, with mushy peas (we shared one pot this time) and a pot of hand made tartar sauce! Much smaller in portion size compared with Kings fish bar, but the quality of the chips and fish were so much better, so good in fact that Elle ate ALL her chips! She NEVER does that! Ever!! I was surprised just by that, and it was proof of how good the food is at Maggie's. We were the last people there as the place was closing and we saw the chef come from the kitchen and told him how much we enjoyed the fish and chips! He looked a little embarrassed... Once again we paid just under £20 for two portions of cod, two small chips, two cans of soda and some mushy peas! Well worth it! I highly recommend Maggie's to anyone who loves their fish and chips and wants close to perfection! 'Cause so far this is the closest I've tasted!!

A perfect place to rest and recount our adventures for the day. There were quite a few diners in, and the space seemed a lot larger once inside, with a bar and several rooms to accommodate small and large parties. We were seated near a party of 10! Service was friendly and leisurely, which we welcomed. Only one staff was taking and distributing orders and he advised of the delay in service. The food was delicious and had we more time in town, would likely have dined in again.

This place is fantastic, easy walk from Dover Castle and just so happens to be Dovers oldest pub. The menu for lunch is small, feels like it's because they want to do things right. The fish and chips- highly recommend. However unless you are starving I recommend you split it with a friend. When we arrived we were immediately greeted, service was excellent. For families like us, they do have high chairs. They will take your order if you sit inside. There's also an outdoor garden however you need to come to the counter to order. Same with drinks. Each room has a lot of history. Take one look around and there's a lot going on. Apparently this location used to be a part of monastery and has evolved over the years now to a great pub. Each dish we enjoyed, the vegetarian linguine was fresh, chips were delicious and the fish was wonderful. If you're cruising in and need a place for a good meal not too far from the port or to Dover Castle- I recommend you swing on in. Highly casual so you can come as is or for special occasion.
