The Overgate is the larger of the two main shopping centres in Dundee, with the other being the…read moreWellgate across town. It offers some of the city's larger shops, hosting the likes of Debenhams, Primark, New Look and Topshop. Half of the mall is really bright and airy as there are windows running down the entire wall. It kinda reminded me of an airport (but nicer, of course). There is parking but we didn't use it. From what I've heard it is pretty expensive. We used Gellatly Street which was £8 for 24 hours. Considering the Overgate charges something similar to this for 5 hours and closes overnight, it looks like we made the right call to go somewhere else. The public toilets in the mall are clean and well serviced so we're all good there. I would definitely recommend coming here instead of the Wellgate - the Wellgate is a horrible, dark dungeon.

It may be because it is a brand new shopping centre and therefore lacks some of what makes the Wellgate so good but whatever it is there is just something missing from the whole experience of shopping here. That said it does have some wonderful shops such as Sports world, Gap and baby Gap, The Gadget shop, Debenhams and the amazing Lush shop which sells all the wild and wacky soaps and lotions and potions you could imagine. You can smell the wondeful scents coming from the Lush store throughout the building and they are rivalled only by the aroma from the Starbucks coffee shop on the same floor. If you are in Dundee then you must visit here as well as the Wellgate, they both have something different to offer.

There are quite a few different entrances and it can be easy to lose your sense of direction. It has a large Debenhams and has the back door to M&S. There is a Primark too, albeit a small one. There are also the essentials for a place like this including Zara, Next, Boots and Topshop. The centre has two car parks. One has 1000 spaces and one has 350 spaces. They do a very good deal on Sundays, where they charge £2 for the whole day! Much better than the extortionate prices in Edinburgh and Glasgow. There were plenty of lifts and toilets. For a Sunday, it really didn't seem that busy. Even Primark, known to be a hellhole at peak times, was very peaceful and tidy! I suppose the reason for 3 stars is that it is a shopping centre - but it is modern and convenient. One thing that needs to be improved is the ex-BHS which is still lying empty. The Murray Place exit is worse though.

As per every primark store, it's big and it's cheap!…read more A large range of clothing for women, men and children as well as homewares, I've never been into this store without leaving with a plethora of items I didn't even know I needed. Stock changes frequently so it's worth going often if you like this type of clothing. It's nothing fancy but if you're like me and tend to throw out/donate clothes at the end of the season then primark is a great place to shop. The layout is easy to navigate, clean and well maintained. Given the amount of clothing that requires putting away and folding this is no small feat, and something primark always impresses me with. Decent service and ideally located.

KLM lost our luggage for days…read moreand we'd been in the same clothes and were on day 3 of them and couldn't take it anymore, so we went to the mall and found this Primark, and they had everything we needed for a reasonable cost, unlike other stores. I even was able to get some dry shampoo and makeup there so I didn't feel like a walking zombie anymore. Super cute clothes for a reasonable price, and the checkout girl was very nice as well. Next time I'm in Scotland and if I need anything and am in the area, I'll be at Primark for sure.

Although whenever I've visited the car park has been very quiet also meaning the shops are quiet too I hate it when it's busy! There are six shops in the retail park, Acorn Pet Centre, Argos Extra, Au Natural, Dreams, Homebase and Peacocks giving a good selection of premises to visit. There is a small amount of cover along the pedestrian walkway to protect visitors from the elements, although it's more of a nudge in the direction of rain cover than actual real cover.

The shops inclued Watt Brothers selling a variety of home goods and clothes, Au Naturale that has a up to 70% off sale on at the moment, it sells a range of cushions, curtains, some furniture such as bar stool, Peacocks that sells clothes for all the family, Dreams that has a range of beds. Homebase which is quite a good size selling diy and plants etc. Halfords selling car parts etc. Argos a catalogue shop and last but not least the acorn pet shops which only had a couple of rabits in and some hamsters, fish and birds. The only thing about this retail park is that it is quite high up so it can be quite cold and the weather can change quickly.

The Oak Mall is really small (hey I'm a poet and I didn't know it!) and has really rubbish versions of high street stores. For example the Oak Malls Topshop has to be the worst branch I have ever been in! It is so tiny and doesn't have any of the most fashion forward, cool lines. There are a few of those really tacky "tween" shops that I love to hate such as Quiz, Unique and Internacionale, if that's you kind of thing, if it is, why?? The Oak Mall does have one of the few Adams stores left in the UK which is maybe worth a visit if you have kids. Also the Bodycare, Semi Chem and Sally Hair and Beauty stores are good for picking up cheap but branded beauty products. I still wouldn't say it's worth the trip out to the mall just for a hand full of sort of ok stores.

Poundshops-a-plenty and near on 5/6 card shops (really?) as well the Oak Mall doesn't have much going for it. Empty shops and poor ones litter the once bustling West Blackhall St. For any Greenockian, this part of town lost its appeal as soon as it become closed over and refered to as "The Mall" - no character remains, sadly. I really hope the council pour some serious money into our local shopping centre by getting it back to basics

Fountain Park is one of those soulless leisure complexes that is there to use up your hard earned…read morecash. There is a large Cineworld cinema, Pizza Hut, Nandos, a casino, Virgin Active health club, bars, bingo, bowling alley and a kiddies soft play center. I actually quite like Fountain Park because it is right on my doorstep and it has everything I need for an evening on entertainment. There is a large car park so you can drive here and if you use the cinema or other businesses your car park ticket is validated making the parking free. Free parking in Edinburgh is a bonus! You can go for something to eat and know what to expect in the chain restaurants before heading off to the cinema/bowling alley/casino. It's perhaps not as large as some of the out of town complexes you see in the likes of Glasgow, but it does have everything you need and something for everyone.

Anyway, I feel that this place is largely for the students living around this area as it has a massive Cineworld, a Pizza Hut, a Nando's and a Tenpin bowling alley among its facilities available. The place felt quite empty and depressing the last time I was in and there seemed to be a lot of empty space between the bowling alley and the cinema, with the main concourse functioning as an extended hallway to get between the two. There is an underground car park which is free for the first four hours but if you stay any longer than that, then you will have to pay money for every extra hour you stay there. I did like the bowling alley, and the Pizza Hut was pretty decent when we went to it so I suppose this place serves its purpose with one of the only casual bowling alleys in the Edinburgh area. I hope I will enjoy Cineworld as it seems significantly cheaper than Odeon and Vue.

Callendar Square is a small, but kind of cool shopping centre not far from the centre of Falkirk…read more It's very light and bright thanks to the skylights. There's free WiFi available and it's quite a pleasant place to wander around. It seems to be largely aimed at health and fitness options. There's a gym at the top floor, a place offering juices and healthy foods and a sports nutrition place. Beyond that there's a few other small businesses and a larger BHS and Iceland.
