A very good pub to visit on West Ham United FC match days, so being in a pub full of football fans can really beef up the atmosphere. The pub is very convenient as it's next door to Barking BR Station, it's only a 25-minute train ride to London Fenchurch Street and is also on the Underground/Overground tube network.

Had my first experience of the BBC last night and we had a lot of fun!…read more Having played a lot of rugby in my time, it felt like i was in some antiquated rugby clubhouse in the arse end of nowhere. It had a distinctly West-country vibe, but maybe I was getting too involved and carried away? We were surrounded by a relaxed and, at 11pm on a Saturday, very inebriated clientele all having fun. Yes the toilets could do with a makeover and perhaps the staff could be a little more interested in quicker service than having fun amongst themselves but that's just silly gripes. I was also very happy to find Tusker beer behind the bar, reminding of me some fun times gone by in Africa. I'll be back on a Sunday next as I suspect this would be a great place to chill out with the paper and some recovery beers.

Its now a firm favourite with me and my friends. Its quite a traditional pub in the way its decorated and titled, but it still attracts quite a young and trendy crowd at the weekend. It hosts a really good range of beers, wines and spirits and they pour a mean pint of Guinness here too! I believe they do both bar snacks and main meals here but i havent had the chance to try them, though im told they are good value. It has some character to it, so don't expect gastro pub furnishings. Enjoyable sitting on the chairs outside in the summer or finding a nice couch inside in the winter. Its nice to make use of the restaurant, although they serve the same food as the bar except you get table service. Drinks are reasonably priced, they do comedy nights about once a month and on occasion show sports/events on the big screen projecter (Rugby, Wimbledon, royal wedding etc). Great little local pub not on the main high street. You'll catch me there a few times a week.

I stayed in Stratford while visiting London and I passed by this pub a few times while on my way to the city. I finally decided to stop by for brunch one morning before heading to the train station. There's no table service here but you can order from your phone using an app or just order from the bar. What makes this place great are their ridiculously cheap deals! OH how I loooove them great deals! You can get an ish load of food for about £3.50 (that's roughly $5 in American dollars give or take the daily exchange rate). They also have great deals on drinks and you can get pitchers of beer and cocktails for dirt cheap too. I ended up ordering their traditional breakfast in addition to a bowl of porridge which was too damn much food for lil' ol' me. But you know how Yelp goes; eyes are always bigger than your stomach! The traditional breakfast includes sausage, bacon, hash browns, toast, eggs, beans and a tomato. HELLA food for £3.50!!! As far as the food quality goes, it was nothing spectacular but it was still good. It did the deed for brunch so I wasn't complaining. I actually really liked the porridge but got too full to finish it. It was thick but still really creamy. You can choose which toppings that you want with it. I chose bananas and brown sugar which went perfectly! I had only planned on getting one drink but it didn't make sense since it was only a couple dollars less than getting a full pitcher. I had been drinking beer for the past few days, so I decided to get a pitcher of their Tuity Fruity cocktail. Um yeah... didn't finish that either! But, I sho' tried my damned hardest. The cocktail was tasty and I didn't feel anything at first, but I did end up getting a buzz as I was walking to the train station. Thank GAWD for the train station because driving wouldn't have been an option. Although there was no table service, everyone that I encountered at the pub was extremely friendly. This seems like a locals joint too as many of the staff members knew people as they walked in. This is also a great place to catch the games since they have a tons of TV's inside. All in all, it's a solid spot for a cheap and filling brunch in the Stratford area.

I think because it has charm. It's a proper old fashioned London boozer; old photos on the walls, a selection of ales, wooden floors, bar and furniture, frosted windows â" all that malarkey and a completely unpretentious feel. Everyone likes it, which is evident from the mixed bag of people you get inside which only adds to its appeal. Unlike some of my friends who cannot fault the place, my problem is the lighting; I think it's too bright and wish they'd just unscrew a few of the bar lights to make it more inviting and true to its namesake. I am also disappointed by the prices which seem to be rising slowly but surely. This is not a cheap option despite its looks. Summer nights are best the Hermits when the punters spill out onto the pavements, but equally a winter evening is great, curled up inside with one of the many warm beverages on offer - a hot toddy or mulled wine is always best in an old-fashioned pub. I'd meant to try this for ages, and it was absolutely delicious. I'm sure I've had Westons before, but for some reason this one tasted almost exactly like balsamic vinegar (which I love, but was slightly unexpected). It's a nice, airy pub with plenty of big cosy tables and places to squash into, but if I were going out, I'd still make a beeline to somewhere like the Stormbird or the Tiger first.
