I am truly surprised by the negative comments. But then again they are not current. And this taking into account that I am not a pub fan, and will voice my opinion even when harm may result. Bull mentality with a defective brain syndrome.
I am what is in my French mother tongue (my doubly linked terms of) "gourmet - gourmand". Basically a pig with a well trained, analytical tongue.
The venue was as expected, pleasant, with good ambient temperature and good lighting. The set up was not crowded, with ample room for people to walk without bumping into one another, or those with double crutches. The noise level was average. Being heard required no special effort. It is conveniently situated, with landmark making it easy to find. Parking is available nearby, with some purchase, shall we say. Bus service is 5 mins walking distance, at a very slow rate, feasible for many people with disabilities or the elderly to commute, of which there were a few.
The food was of the expected temperature, big portions, well presented to a pub standard and the taste was amazing! One of the very best I ever had, and I had them by the thousands across all of London. The side dish alone was passable, a bit oily. The dessert was as good as the expensive (central) west end London venue who specialise in them, and extremely cheep for the quality and portion size. A fact that really surprised me. In fact I should warn you to specify quantity in cases of ingredients like syrup if you don't want a mini swimming pool or wastage, for they are not stingy. The overall culinary experience was comparable to the average good restaurant. In fact we paid about 4 times the price for much lesser on all counts but for food temperature in an up market central London venue.
I couldn't drink alcohol on the day for personal reasons, so won't comment on it. Though I understand it isnt too costly and from the sip I stole tasted fine. Though my alcohol taste buds on said particular beverage (beer) are at best lethargic, so my comment there is so so.
The toilets - at around 6 pm - were clean, well stocked and not shabby at all, again to my surprise, as I was dreading it.
The venue was adequately staffed. The staffs themselves were polite and friendly. I didn't mind being asked "who's next?" It is current practice, even in places when you are standing in a strait queue, a meter away. It is best than serving us in the wrong order, causing friction. Used plates were removed in a timely manner. The staff didn't hesitate to go and find the information I wanted, though she couldn't have realised I was physically disabled from where I was seated, and didn't imply that I get up to make another trip and find the information for myself. An occurrence I often encounter in staff who can blatantly see me struggling.
The clientele were a mix bunch of a variety assortment type. All were well behaved, but for one who either was preoccupied or ignored me at the bar when I asked if he was already served before I went ahead. The ambience was conducive to family needs as much as anyone else.
Unless I fancied sushi, Thai and the like, I'll definitely make an eager bee line there again. The venue comes to mind each time I think of dinning out, which is a good sign.
I hope you found the comments helpful, and that you have as pleasant an experience as I had. Pudding lovers go wild! read more
