Having moved from Newport Beach to San Luis Obispo SGS was recommended as the best around. And they weren't wrong. I have a 1970 911E Targa which I purchased new. You can imagine that with 50 years of ownership I am pretty particular who touches my machine. I brought it in for a 50th birthday present and had much work to be accomplished (oil leaks, new muffler, tune up, etc.). Nathan runs the back room and Guy runs the shop. Both are terrific to work with. Not only are their labor prices affordable, they get amazing prices on parts. I picked up the car yesterday and it has never run better. Let's not forget that the 1970 had mechanical fuel injection which is like trying to use an Abacus versus a PC. It has NEVER run better. You can't go wrong here. read more

Zero below zero stars. Called in to get my Porsche worked on and the guy who answered seemed upset he had to answer the phone. Then he passed me to another guy in parts who didn't know what part I needed and then passed me back to the first guy and he said someone will look into it and call you right back. No one ever called . I will not be going to these guys. They are obviously so busy they don't need new business. read more

I brought my 2012 Cayman R into the shop for an inspection after a less than qualified shop screwed up the brakes. Yeah, I know. I was a dope for taking it to the guys that were close to my house. They weren't real Porsche mechanics. Anyway, Guy took the car in and Britton went to work on it right away. It wasn't long before the parking brake was functional like it was before the other shop touched it and the brake wear sensor light was reset. I'm pretty sure that it was my lucky day to come in when they could put my car on the rack and fix it right away. Was on a backroad tour of CA and got stranded in the middle of nowhere with no cell service, a few hours later was towed 80 miles to these guys (closest thing I could find on yelp that worked on porsches). Car had completely died on me and wouldn't turn over. Thinking I was stuck for the rest of the day got a hotel room when the phone rings 2 hours later. They had diagnosed and fixed it (blew the fuel pump fuse which ultimately shut everything down - 2001 996 Turbo). Guys were great to work with. Real easy to quickly get in trouble with these cars dropping them off with someone you don't know or trust, I now wish these guys were closer! I have 2005 911 Porsche Carrera. The engine light came on and they were able to diagnose it was the ignition coils that needed to be replaced. Fancy car means fancy problems, luckily with SGS you're not stuck with a fancy bill too. Guy and Nathan recently pit a new suspension in my 911, previously they put a new exhaust in it. Both jobs were done flawlessly and the customer service was truly top notch. It also bears mention that this relationship began when they addressed a check engine light on my Porsche and did the fix for free- granted, it was only a loose plug, but they still took the time to diagnose and repair it without asking for a dime. Today I was driving from San Francisco to Los Angeles in my 2002 model 996 turbo Porsche. I stopped for the night in St. Louis a Bispo and took the car in to check out the source of A clapping sound emitting from the right front wheel area. Guy the boss, Nathan and their excellent mechanic did wonderful job of fitting me in on very short notice, checking out the car and making a minor repair and sent me on my way in record time. Great feeling it was nothing major and then I could continue on my way. I noticed the award on the wall: 2014 for supporting the regional Porsche club. We had stopped for gas in Big Sur on Hwy 1, but our beloved '83 Targa refused to start up when we were ready to leave. I called SGS Independent Porsche Care in San Luis Obispo which was both the only Porsche repair place anywhere in the area and coincidentally where we were already headed the next day for 2 nights. Nathan answered the phone and immediately was very professional and very understanding of our situation. He told us to bring it in the next day, and said he'd work it into the schedule. He would do what it takes to get us going on our trip again. When we brought it in the next day, it was immediately apparent that this shop takes pride in cleanliness and appearance. It was immaculate, everything polished, and with a few beautiful cars on the floor. We spoke with Britton and gave him the service records to help with their diagnosis. A few hours later, Nathan called and told us it was the starter, and that he'd order the part for delivery and installation the next day. The car was ready to pick up the next day in the afternoon and when we arrived, not only had SGS replaced the starter at a very reasonable cost, but they'd also changed our two front brake linings and only charged us for the parts, not the labor. This was one of the things in the service records at the top of our list to do when we returned home. What a surprising and nice gift this was! SGS fixed our car perfectly and for a fair price, and made us feel comfortable and confident with their work starting the moment we walked in the door. They're also right in the historic downtown area of SLO and are very convenient! I highly recommend Britton and Nathan and SGS!! read more

If I could give 10 stars I would. I'm from out of state, and was arranging a purchase from a seller locally. I was going to purchase the car and drive it back to Utah. Knowing the 996 had a reputation for IMS bearing issues, I wanted to get that taken care of before I drove it back. Timing was critical with this purchase as I had already arranged a flight. Not only did Guy get me in at the last minute, he did the repairs even though I did not even own the car yet. He also took care of a number of items for no additional charges, did a very thorough inspection of the vehicle, and had everything done on time. His mechanic showed me all the parts that were replaced, went over everything in detail, and game me all the time I needed. This type of customer service does not exist anymore in the auto industry it seems.
