Great shop, honest workers and fair prices. I've been a big brand customer for many years. Recently…read morehad a flat on tires that came with my truck, not from big brand. They got me repaired and going for no charge. I've bought many tires here and also had them do oil changes for me. Previously I used Costco, no complaints there but big brand has just been easy to deal with and nice that they can do more than tires.

If I could give zero stars, I would. After years of coming to Big Brand Tire in San Luis Obispo for…read moreoil changes, this experience has completely broken my trust. On Saturday, we brought our car in for rear brake replacement. Frank, the assistant manager, told us all the brakes needed work, including the pads. We paid $643. When we picked up the car, Frank pointed out a coolant leak we already knew about. We had been topping up the coolant when it was low. He offered to repair the leak, but we declined. On Tuesday morning, we tried to add coolant and discovered the cap was so tight we could not open it. We had previously been able to open it ourselves. We returned to the shop, but Frank was not there. Will, the manager, also struggled to remove the cap. He ultimately used a grinder to get it open. We filled the coolant and went home. On Wednesday, the engine temperature started rising while we were driving. We had to stop twice because we were worried about overheating and damaging the engine. Around 11 a.m., we returned to the shop again, but Frank was not there that day either. Another employee inspected the car and gave us an estimate for an additional $2,318 to repair the leak and replace several parts. We understand that the coolant leak existed before the brake service. What concerns us is that we could previously open the cap and add coolant ourselves, and we had not experienced this temperature issue before these visits. How did a $643 brake visit turn into a cap that required grinding to remove, followed by a rising engine temperature and a $2,318 repair estimate? The cap was so unusually tight that it made us question whether it had been deliberately overtightened, although we cannot prove that. What we do know is that the sequence of events left us feeling unsafe, frustrated, and deeply distrustful of this shop. It was also frustrating that Frank was not present on either of the two consecutive days when we returned with concerns. After years as customers, we expected better care and a clear explanation. Based on this experience, I would not recommend this location.

Got all that and a smog to boot for a reasonable cost and very good updates from Daniel himself on a timely basis. Can't ask for anything more than that and will be glad a repeat customer.....check his shop out for all your automotive needs! Awesome work!

Panicking, and knowing that finding someone locally to work on a Sprinter (especially on short notice) was going to be nearly impossible, I started to scour the Central Coast. Luckily, one of the SLO German Automotive's staff recommended this shop and boy was I glad they did! SLAR&S not only diagnosed the burnt emissions sensor, they were able to get and replace the part, recharge my AC, and even pulled off my bumper (at my request!) so I could get the new tow package on. All of this done next-day!!!! I couldn't believe how clutch these guys were and the price was very reasonable. From now on, my Sprinter only goes to SLAR&S!!
