unassuming from the outside, but totally beautiful and delicious plates of food! it was a sunny lunch time and the mains all seemed a little heavy to me, so i had 3 starters as they sounded interesting! first was the smoked salmon scotch egg. only a little quails egg, but a generous amount of salmon, and really tasty pickled veg. and capers. I bloody love capers. for my "main" I had the crab and cucumber salad, and asparagus and truffle. the former was completely and utterly delicious, and truly beautiful. it came with this bright green cucumber soup to pour over which really brought it to life. the asparagus dish came (unexpectedly) with quails eggs rolled in ash. they certainly looked dramatic, but the ash leaves a really strange texture in your mouth, and I'm not really sure what it adds. the asparagus was delicious though, with the subtle truffle after taste. I wasn't planning a pudding, but decided just to go for it as the other dishes had been so delicious, and I certainly didn't regret it when the beautiful strawberry parfait appeared. it was served with really flavoursome jelly, balsamic strawberries and a delicious black pepper meringue. and again, an absolutely stunning plate. I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone in the area. or not in the area - you won't regret a detour! read more
