Vomit on the mattress -- and management refused a full refund We chose The Spinnaker based on family recommendations and drove five hours to get here. Upon check-in, my son jumped on the bed and discovered it was wet and smelling. When we pulled back the comforter we found what appeared to be vomit on the mattress -- completely uncleaned from a prior guest. We filed a formal complaint. It took over 24 hours to get any response. Management offered a one-night refund and a future discount, and when we requested a full refund for an objectively unacceptable situation, they refused. The lack of basic cleanliness combined with the dismissive response from management tells you everything you need to know. Spend your money elsewhere. read more

We have been coming to this property for over 20 years. Since it has been taken over it has gone downhill. Requests, such as room type, or requests for specific rooms that were once honored are no longer honored. No regard to clients who have been longtime customers. Noticeably absent was the gentlemen who used to take care of the property. We would see him day and night cleaning around the property. Now the property is dirty and the rooms need major renovations. I was given a handicapped room which we did not want. The dresser drawers wouldn't close and just stayed open in both rooms we booked. The sliding glass door in the handicap room was impossible to open and close. It would constantly get stuck. We asked for rooms next to each other and were placed on opposite sides of the property. The only bright spot at the property is Malia's Cafe. The cafe (which I don't believe is owned by the hotel) is amazing! I was very disappointed from the start but sucked it up because I didn't want to put a damper on our trip, but I really don't think we will book here again. It's a shame because we were loyal customers. read more

During a recent trip to Ocean City, we decided to extend our stay by one day. We checked in to the Spinnaker Hotel on Baltimore Street because it had a great price and great reviews. I was pleasantly surprised the hotel was very clean. Courtny and Rob at the front desk were amazing and very helpful. Had no issues would definitely stay here again. Best value on the beach. read more

When booking a place you've never been before, you hope and pray it will be good! I couldn't of been more pleased with the Spinnaker! Great location so close to the boardwalk. We had 3 rooms right next to each other for a party of 4 adults and 7 children. The rooms are very clean. It's not fancy but who needs fancy at the beach! A perfect location. Spacious parking lot and a heated outdoor pool. A kitchenette with pots and pans, a small microwave and a full size fridge. A more than accommodating staff. We loved it so much that we are planning on another stay in a week! Bring groceries for breakfast and dinner! I made a spaghetti dinner for my crew and saved a bunch of money. Couldn't be happier with this choice! read more

We have not stayed here, so this review is just for the fantastic job they do in keeping everything neat, clean and "neighborly." We recently moved into a condo next door and were thrilled to find that they do such a wonderful job regularly sweeping off the parking lot, cleaning their swimming pool and responding to noise disturbances. They are a great neighbor! They also have a very nice little cafe (Malia's) that offers a number of healthy choices for breakfast and lunch. We just wanted to say "hello" and "thanks!" read more

I liked it! It's not a five star hotel, but it really gets you what you need, including: - Parking - Restaurant with great breakfast at bottom of hotel - It's clean. They're always cleaning. - AC - 5 steps from boardwalk - Balcony - Kitchenette with a fridge - Pool - Deck with cool space where you can have drinks with a group or just hang out I can be picky with hotels, but overall had a great experience here and would come back. read more

Very out dated. Sofa bed was horrible. Needs refurnished and new carpets. Linens were stained. Will never stay here again.

I mean, the kitchenette was quaint and useful, but the beds were something left to be desired. The mattresses were TOO firm. But that's just my opinion. I went to sleep for a good 7-8 hours, but still got up like I didn't sleep a wink. The rooms are a little outdated, and could use a little make over, but I overall enjoyed my stay. I understand that they have a certain temperature for their A/C to be on, but it was set on 76!!! It felt better out of the room than in it. Overall, it was very close to everything. Different opinions from different people. The staff was an absolute pleasure to be around. If you want a good deal from them, it's better to get it in the winter just after Christmas. And they allow you to make payments if you're doing off of booking.com. That's always a plus for a person that's looking to have a wonderful trip with your family while trying to budget things at home. So if you are on a budget like myself, this would be the way to go!! read more

I totally would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for an affordable place to stay on vacation in Ocean City. My friends and I stayed here over the week of June 5th-June 12th for our senior trip. It also happened to be "Senior Week" or "SWeek" the exact time we were there. Senior Week (for anyone that doesn't know) is where all graduating (or graduated) seniors, high school and college, go to a vacation spot for a week and celebrate. At the time, we didn't realize it was the same week that we were there, so it was pretty cool meeting new people riding the same wave with us (graduating high school). We drove from Ohio to Ocean City and wanted an affordable place to stay, like any other family or group. I don't remember exactly how much the rooms were a night, but our total ended up being a little over $1,000 for the week. There were 3 of us, so divide $1,000 evenly and you get a little over $360 a person. It was definitely worth the price. Upon arriving to the hotel, we check in and the man that helped us was very kind. He told us about food services, places to see, the boardwalk, etc. He checked all of our ID's to make sure we were 18, unfortunately I was not, so my parents had to sign a paper beforehand, allowing me to be there. Before he let us go to our room, he made all 3 of us sign a waiver, saying we wouldn't bring marijuana, alcohol, or any kind of drug into the facility. We were also told that there would be no on-service maid that would be coming into our room to clean everyday, due to Covid. We were completely fine with that. Upon entering the room, it was very spacious. I am sure there were different rooms to choose from, but we had 2 full size beds, a couch that could be turned into a sofa bed, full kitchen, a full bathroom, and a balcony. For 3 teenage girls, this fit us just right! Nothing struck as odd just yet.... Like any normal human on vacation, we checked every bed for bed bugs, thankfully there were none, but what we did notice was it seemed whoever cleaned/fixed the room before we came just threw the same sheets that the people used before us onto the bed again because we found hairs, sand, crumbs, etc wrapped up in the sheets. We weren't completely disgusted given the fact they had no on-service maid, so we let that one slide. Throughout the rest of the inspection of the room, we came to find more hairs (pubic) left in the shower, dead bugs on the dishes, we had no baking pan to cook food in the oven for ourselves, 2 rolls of toilet paper, no plunger, no oven mitts, no broom, no hand soap for bathroom or dish soap for dishes, no extra sheets for the pullout bed, etc. Again, we weren't disgusted, we understood the problems Covid has faced for these businesses. We weren't going to act like a Karen and go down to the front desk and complain. We politely called the receptionist and asked for a few more rolls of toilet paper, a plunger and some extra sheets. We would worry about cooking food later. The staff here are amazing. Whether they care about their job or not, they treated us like how we should expect to be treated. They even offered to unclog our toilet for us A few minor details about our room wasn't going to ruin our trip, so we continued on like nothing happened. We deep cleaned all of our dishes, so if we needed to use them at least they would be cleaned. We eventually made our way to the Walmart which is about 20-25 minute driving distance from the hotel to pick up groceries and a few essentials. Before the trip, we had decided to each pick a day and cook a meal for dinner and then the rest of the days we would eat out, but with the consistency of the dishes and the dirty room, we decided on just buying frozen meals/quick food we could just pop into the microwave. We went out of the way to even buy a baking pan and dish/hand soap for our room That night, we had a quick meal and we were off to bed, I noticed however a stain on the night table that sat between the 2 beds... I wasn't sure what it was until I shined my flashlight onto it. Turns out, it was a semen stain (I added a picture for anyone who wants to see). All 3 of us had a quick laugh and a conversation on "let's make sure no one touches it" and moved on with our night. With all the things bad that we have seen in this room, I still think it is a great place to stay. You have great access to the beach, a Starbucks/Dunkin around the block, everything you could possibly need is in walking distance, there are tons of mini golf courses scattered around the island, tons of shops and restaurants, great access to the boardwalk, however if you want to go to the pier I would recommend driving because it is a lengthy walk, but if you don't have a problem with walking by all means walk. I would definitely recommend! read more

My husband and our three children stayed here for 4 days 3 nights . Researched a few places and made reservations here a week in advance . Easy to get to and perfect location . Walk to beach , Boardwalk , and many nearby restaurants and attractions . The room was adequate size and clean . Like some motels it could use a little updating but over all clean and staff was very nice Plenty of towels . Kitchenette in room was nice bonus . Pool seemed small but wasn't crowded when we went so worked out well . Wifi was very slow. Starbucks next door also had free wifi FYI. I would get bigger beds next time ( we had doubles ) the pull out was very uncomfortable . We padded it with comforters under the fitted sheet . Nice side ocean view for sunrise . Local tv channel was very informative for local activities I would return and recommend this motel read more

The Spinnaker - Balcony - Hotels Near Me - Ocean City, Maryland

This place is ideal for Senior Week and those on a budget. I don't fit into either category. I went as a "chaperone". I personally hated my time here. Due to its location it was always loud, but it was literally right on the sidewalk and the beach. The breakfast at the cafe downstairs was the best part about staying here (their omelettes are really good)! On the other hand, I think the room size and single bathroom is unrealistic for 6 girls to live in for a week, especially if housekeeping doesn't visit the room. And if you have minors in the room, someone from housekeeping or management bangs on the door at 10am and they have to come into the room, use the phone, and call the office downstairs to make sure the minor(s) are still breathing. I found this to be very disruptive and not ideal, but I assume it's due to some liability thing. Also, the "heated" pool was cold. I honestly think we could have rented a house for the same price and could have slept into the afternoon rather than lived in this motel with such an uncomfortable sofa bed and being woken up by hotel staff. read more

Rooms are clean. Free parking. Close to beach & is right off the boardwalk maybe 50 yards. Ocean view means...side view but you could see it. From the hotel to the end of the boardwalk where the rides are is 1.69 miles, there is a shuttle bus on the boardwalk for $3 a trip per person... just wave it down to get on and raise your hand to get off & it will stop. Air conditioning worked but wasn't super cold, which luckily when we were there temps were in 70's so manageable. Water pressure was great! The elevators were horrible- small, slow and clunky noises- we took the stairs down most of the time, but couldn't take up because they are locked for security. Was safe area, and there are safes in the rooms, which was nice! There's a restaurant right by check in office-breakfast was great! read more

The people at the front desk were very friendly and made sure we had everything in the room we needed. They made sure we promptly got sheets for the couch bed, and an extra mattress, plus additional towels. The room was pricey for how old the rooms look, but the room was very clean and it was nice to have the kitchenette. The location to the beach and access to lots of food spots was perfect. Great view from our balcony. The rooms could use some updating, but we enjoyed the stay. read more

This was our first time staying here. Overall, it was a great experience. The location was great. The rooms were clean when we arrived. They did not do daily room service, but we put our trash out and they took it for us. We also would call down for more toilet paper & towels and they brought it in a decent time. The workers are all very nice and helpful! The pool area/deck is also a good spot to hang out, eat dinner, etc. I also like that the parking lot was but enough rather than having an overflow lot somewhere else like some hotels. Our balcony was very spacious which was a nice addition to the room. my only complaints were 1- the elevators were very tiny. I have never been in such a small elevator at a hotel. 2- the beds were soo small. I did not realize when I booked that they were double size which is weird to have in a hotel. I do not think I could stay here again due to the small beds but other than that, I recommend. read more

Friendly staff. Nice pool area. Ample parking. Stones throw from beach. Scary elevators! Old drab rooms. They look like they had an upgrade, but whoever did it cut corners. The kitchenette was ample for short stay. Seriously, the elevators were scary. Need a fix. read more

We loved the heated pool, outdoor lounge, and private balcony. We were on the fence at first with our reservation but really had a wonderful time being able to just walk right out to the beach and down the boardwalk. Our 9 year old and 7 year old said it was their new favorite hotel and we've been to quite a few! We would surely stay at the Spinnaker again and want to thank everyone that worked their for their eagerness to make us comfortable and friendliness. We left with such fond memories! read more

My family and I just spent our second stay at The Spinnaker and have now had two great stays here. The hotel is very clean. The rooms are spacious and full of everything you would need from the sofa bed, to dining table/chairs, to a stocked kitchenette. The bedspreads are washed for every guest, and this is not a common thing to find in hotels. The rooms are quiet and I've never been disturbed by noise in the middle of the night. It's a great family spot. read more

I'm not a hotel snob, so this place was very comfortable and pleasant for me. We stayed for 2 nights and I have an infant with me, so the kitchen was super convenient to have. The kitchen is small, but nice to have overall if you want a quick-fix to eat indoors. The beds were not very big, I would say full-size, not really queen. They were not comfortable either, however the room was large for at least 4 people to stay in. Overall, I give it high marks for being CLEAN, which is the main concern when I stay anywhere. Rooms were ocean-view, and the boardwalk is only a few feet away, and in walking distance. I liked how it wasn't too close to the boardwalk, to where it could get noisy at night, but just the right distance from it. Bathrooms were small, but clean, and yes the water pressure was low, and that's about the only complaint I have about the rooms. Front-desk staff was friendly, but I cannot say the same for the maids. I witnessed one the maids making a slight remark when she was told to clean the rooms. She said, something snotty on the lines of she'll clean them when she gets to them, check-in isn't until 4pm anyway. I thought it was pretty rude to make that remark in front of guests, especially when I had an infant and I was waiting to be checked-in! That is why I give it 4 stars, instead of 5! I highly recommend the cafe downstairs. Forget about the free wifi. It wouldn't pick up signal on the 4th floor. Reasonably-priced, staff was friendly, and the food was good. My family would definitively stay here again in our next visit to OC! read more

We stayed at The Spinnaker from 8/18/2019 - 8/23/2019. I have to say that I have never been more pleased with a hotel experience. We arrived later in the evening on 8/18 and I was very much ready to lay down. We have 3 kids and needed a room sleep all of us. We gave our kids the beds and we took the sofa bed. After pulling it out we realized how worn down it was. Unfortunately, I have a lot of back issues due to some injuries. I knew if I attempted to sleep on it I would be in trouble. My husband went down to the front desk to ask if there was a different mattress available. The man at the front desk happily and quickly sent someone up with an extra mattress for us to use. However, we then realized that there was an issue with the actual frame of the pull out sofa bed. It caused a decline at the head of the bed. I knew there was really nothing that could be done and I'd have to make do with what I had. This did cause me to have pain throughout our vacation, not the worst I've ever had, but it did have an impact on our trip. The manager happened to be in the office when my husband checked out. She asked us about our stay. My husband told her that we were very pleased over all. The rooms were clean and the staff was accommodating a friendly. She explained that there was potential interest in updating the rooms and was looking for feedback. My husband recommended new sofa beds and explained why. She felt so terrible about the situation that she offered to take us to breakfast at the restaurant attached to the hotel!! We politely declined her offer. We stayed in a hotel last year that had black mold, tiles falling off of the wall, gunk on the lamp shades, and much more. No one at the front desk would even contact the manager and it took me posting pictures and explaining the situation to a Facebook group for Ocean City before anything was done about the situation. The manager at The Spinnaker was incredibly empathetic and we didn't even complain. I highly recommend this hotel. I think this may be our "go to" hotel on our annual trip to the beach. read more

I called ahead and asked if they had any ocean view rooms. The desk clerk assured me "all of our rooms are ocean view." "Ocean view" turned out to mean a view of the parking lot; if you went outside onto the balcony and stood up, you could see a bit of the ocean, but there's another hotel in between that mostly blocks your view. I don't think it's reasonable to advertise rooms as "ocean view" if you can't see the ocean unless you're standing up on the balcony. I realize any room in Ocean City in the summer is overpriced, but I felt ripped off paying $215 for an "ocean view" room that would have been a $70 motel room in a non-resort town. read more

The Spinnaker Motel has been serving Ocean City, Maryland's tourists since 1975. I feel it is the cleanest and best maintained/managed motel in Ocean City.... it sits in the perfect location in the town (18th Street and Oceanside), so you are close to all of Ocean City's restaurants and attractions... you can walk the boardwalk, take the boardwalk tram or take the Ocean City bus rather rapidly to all that Ocean City has to offer. It has a spacious, well lit and protected parking lot, so let the car sit!!!! All of the rooms are efficiencies and feature 2 double beds, a sofa with a pull out bed and a private balcony with great views of the beach, the ocean and the boardwalk. They have an elevated heated pool with a deck that spans between both buildings.... it's very nice. It is an exceptional place for families with young children..... The way the property is set up, it makes it easy to let the kids roam, while keeping an eye on them..... There is also a nice coffee shop at the Spinnaker that is open for breakfast and lunch.... they've got great food.... the rates are reasonable and affordable..... this is a place I highly recommend!!! read more

On a recent weekend, we stayed at the Spinnaker in OC. We stayed Saturday and Sunday nights, so we were able to stay and watch the OC air show on Sunday. The Spinnaker is conveniently located at 1800 Baltimore Avenue in Ocean City. It is on the beach block. "Malia's," a great little restaurant open for breakfast and lunch, is on the ground floor of the Spinnaker. Our room was ready when we arrived, so were able to check in early. The room was nice sized with two double beds, a sofa, and a table with four chairs in the bedroom area. The room was very clean and comfortable. There was a stove, sink, microwave, coffeemaker, and a nice-sized refrigerator. Cabinets with silverware and plates were included. The bathroom was decent-sized with a nice mirror. The water pressure on the shower was sufficient. There was a walkout balcony. Since we were on an end unit, we had an unobstructed ocean view and were able to watch the fantastic air show from the balcony. Sunday was a beautiful day. We were able to enjoy the pool, which is located on a deck off the first floor. It is a nice pool and has plenty of seating, with tables and umbrellas. The staff at the Spinnaker is wonderful. They do everything they can to make customers feel at home. We liked the Spinnaker so much that we plan to stay there again in a few weeks. read more

This was a fantasic motel! No problems, room service came every morning to see if we needed anything, enough to comfortably sleep 6 (well, the pull out sofa was kinda lumpy, but if you drink enough-it's no biggie), great location, just over all a good experience. I will be returning next year! read more

Cons: The pool area is very very small. The beds are way too soft and the sofa bed is your classic uncomfortable bed with springs digging in your back. I ended up sleeping on the floor. There is only one elevator for each building, which is very small and super slow. So if you stay here, I would opt for a lower floor. We stayed on the fifth floor and ended up taking the stairs with all of our luggage. The wait was way too long. Nasty changing rooms if you opt to use them if you get there before check in or want to leave after check in and want to shower and change after the beach. Pros: Great location. Clean rooms. Kitchens had everything we needed. read more

Wasn't sure about if this would be a decent place to stay given that we reserved this room at the last minute and it had the word "motel" in it...but boy, am I glad I came here. Although at first appearance, the motel might seem a bit low-cost, when I entered the front office, I was impressed by the staff's efficiency and professionalism. I then went into the room, and it was definitely better than what I had expected. It's not the Marriott, but it's not Super 8, either. The incredible location was perfect, and the beds and room were very clean. I would only suggest that the management do a better job in upkeep of its exterior and entrance area. The pool is great, although very old. Needs a good refresh -- new paint, repairs -- but the kids and I enjoyed swimming (and the water temperature was just perfect). I'd definitely stay here again. read more

Perfect place in the perfect location. Bed you sink in, and a balcony that looks out to the beach in the morning. What more can you ask for? Not to mention that you are walking distance to all you could want to do on the island, if you need to drive Rt 50 and 90 are just blocks away. Not a fan! The individuals that worked the front desk were ok, but the individuals who worked the rooms were mean and rude. There was a constant loud thumping we heard day and night. We originally thought it was the room adjacent to ours only to find that the last night they were not there and the sounds continued. Overall it was a room to stay in, the balcony door was barely able to be locked and was cordoned off by a some sort of barrier Thant someone could either climb over or under(felt completely safe by that barrier and lock or lack the of) when the staff cleaned the room it seems they conveniently forgot to leave all of the towels they removed, so I had to request towels and the lady that cleaned the room felt compelled to ask me where I was taking the towels(like really?! taking the towels?? Where ?? I'm in the room for the night and just want to shower ?? Maybe into my room, there's a thought ... the pool didn't have complimentary towels. I may have have expected the hotel chain experience, but someone told me to give a smaller company a chance ( not a good decision ) Not a great experience at all ! I'll go with a hotel chain if I go again, because it seems they understand hospitality just a bit better. read more
