First off, the people dropping 1-star reviews on this place are probably the high-maintenance crowd…read morewho drove down from NY or DC expecting a luxury high-rise and never bothered to do five minutes of research beforehand. This resort is pure mom-and-pop energy. Not some polished corporate chain with cucumber water in the lobby. It's been part of OC since the 1950s and it feels like one of those places where families vacationed as kids, then came back years later with their own kids, and the cycle just keeps going. The whole place runs on nostalgia, tradition, and "remember when?" stories. Everything here is functional and clean but you absolutely get what you pay for. If you're expecting modern luxury, quartz countertops, and Instagram-core aesthetics, head to condo row in north OC and prepare to pay at least 50% more. We stayed here in early May 2026. The outdoor pool was still closed for the season but every other amenity was up and running. One nice perk: all amenities are free for guests. There are signs everywhere saying wristbands are required, although at the indoor pool that rule seemed to be enforced with the intensity of a mall security guard on break. Nobody in our group had wristbands on and half the pool crowd didn't either. Even in early May, the indoor pool was pretty lively without feeling chaotic. While we didn't fully take advantage of it, the pool bar specials were honestly kind of absurd in the best way possible. They had around a dozen beer options (everything from basic to craft) for like $2-$3 each. No exaggeration on that. Not one beer was more than $3. Crushes, cocktails, jello shots, and other drinks were all priced shockingly reasonably too. If you're traveling with a big group, you could easily dedicate an entire day to staying on the property and still spend less than you would almost anywhere else in town. My 8-year-old loved the mini golf course. Is it a little worn down compared to some of the flashy courses nearby? Sure. But it's free, and free mini golf automatically gains at least two stars in my book. They also show two family-friendly movies every evening around 6 PM and 8 PM with complimentary popcorn, which is a nice touch. The arcade had maybe 6-12 games total: skeeball, crane games, Mortal Kombat, a racing game or two, and a handful of random classics. Games do not take quarters and you have to purchase a game card. Honestly, the arcade can be skipped but you walk past it going to the indoor pool. If you want to play arcades, go to the inlet and hit up Playland or Sportland. There's also a small outdoor playground that should easily satisfy kids 10 and under. We stayed in the Pennsylvania building on the second floor. The room itself was comfortable. The shower pressure was a little weak, but perfectly usable. One underrated plus is the sink is outside the bathroom. The room had a microfridge, two queen beds, basic cable, solid AC, and comfortable mattresses. The biggest downside is definitely the thin walls. Sound travels. A lot. Thankfully, most guests were families, so it never felt rowdy in a BAD way. You will hear laughter, small kids yelling, doors shutting, etc. And because it's a family resort with thin walls, some parents seemed to operate under the philosophy of "vacation bedtime is optional" and throw any self-awareness out the window. On Saturday night, there were kids sprinting around the hallways at 11:30 PM while parents yelled at them from somewhere in the parking lot like they were trying to coach a youth soccer practice from three fields away. Zero awareness that other families, likely with small kids, might actually be asleep. Thankfully, we brought a white noise machine, so it wasn't a huge issue for us. But I could definitely see peak summer weekends getting a little chaotic. That said, this may also just come down to my mindset. Even though we live here, if we ever need a quick few-night escape from our house again, we'd probably come back. The value is really hard to beat.

The room itself looked clean, but there was a roach in there. I will never come back here and I don't recommend anyone else to go. There were so many other places I will consider for next time.

Sound was well insulated too, so we didn't really hear the neighbors. We need a hotel room with a kitchenette, which this provides -- negative with the room was simply not having enough basic amenities which is simply housekeeping error in advance of arriving guests. Simply need to make sure you have the proper number of bowls, spoons, plates, you get it ... so guests don't have to call down and get that addressed. Not the end of the world. Hallways and lobby were honestly some of the better quality / cleaner ones I've seen versus other OCMD hotels (e.g., Holiday Inn, Hilton, etc.). We would have like the ability to eat on our balcony which was a bummer -- no table out there like other hotels provide -- just a convenience thing. Parking, however, is a rough one compared to these other hotels I've listed. Spots in the parking garage are tight, navigating the parking garage is a tricky as you also are accommodating condo owner restrictions, and a lot of people pull up to the front to check in like it's some huge hotel - so the entry way can get crowded. We just parked on the street near the building. I never dealt with the manager, so can't speak to other people's complaints about her, but the front desk staff were nice to speak with and addressed my inquiries, and phone staff were pleasant. The pool is fine. It's key to have such a big pool available for families, but it will get crowded during the day in peak season, and the pool only opening at 10 for kids doesn't make a lot of sense. No idea on the fitness center -- we're going to the beach for vacation, not to make YouTube content in a fitness center. Again the net was positive and met the families' needs.

In true resort fashion, there are many amenities on site including dining, spa, leisure, indoor pool, etc. There's even a coffee shop, souvenir shop, and arcade on site. The indoor pool is perfect for non-beach goers and those simply wanting to enjoy the relaxation of indoor swimming. The pool is located at The Atrium where there is an indoor tiki bar and mini arcade. During my stay there was a live band performing in The Atrium which livened an otherwise gloomy beach day. Right outside the beachside entrance to the pool is a bar and grill. You can walk out to the beach from The Atrium. There's a beach service available to rent chair, umbrellas, and cabanas. Multiple payment options are available. The suites overlooking The Atrium offer a great view of the pool, bars, and the floor to ceiling glass giving open sight lines to the beach. The room accommodations were very good. Very clean and spacious. There is parking on site in two areas: connected to the hotel, and across from the main entrance. It can be a nightmare to find convenient parking during the summer after hours. I found myself returning to the hotel shortly after dusk every day just to get a parking spot near the hotel entrance without having to park on the top level in the garage. During my stay, the parking lot connected to the hotel seemed to also be a storage space for the hotel, making for tight spaces in some areas. Nevertheless, on site parking is always a plus. Overall, a good experience at this hotel.

The boardwalk is beyond walking distance, so you will have to drive and pay to park there, or buy a bus pass. Still, there are other attractions in the immediate area. We stayed in Condo 602, at a 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom condo on the 6th floor of the Carousel. The living room and master bedroom have fantastic ocean views. The master has a king bed, the second two queen beds, and the third 2 singles, so it sleeps 6 comfortably and children can share the beds in the second bedroom. The beds in this particular condo were firm and comfortable. The condo is great for families, extended families, three couples, and groups of friends, but not cost efficient for just one couple. For groups of at least four, the number this condo accommodates makes it as cost efficient as you can get in the current market. We were three couples who are friends. The couple who took the master bedroom paid more of the bill than the other two. You can also walk to a Food Lion supermarket right across the street, and to a range of restaurants. The kitchen is well equipped. You can cook from scratch, store food, and supplement a takeout order, thus making dining over a week-long vacation convenient and cost efficient. The common area is enough room for a group of people to hang out in. There is an open plan with kitchen, dining area and living room, plus a furnished balcony that runs the length of the entire condo (living room and master bedroom). You can access the balcony from both rooms. The east-facing windows are floor to ceiling, comprising the entire eastern exposure. This adds to the ambiance and provides a great ocean view. You can sit at a picnic table on the bay-side deck. You can watch the sun set in the west if you get tired of looking at the ocean in the east. There are negative reviews that note that the Carousel is older and noisy, but most of the these relate to the hotel rooms rather than the condos. I read that the lower hotel portion is noisy with various activities going on, but the 6th floor is above all that. Still, there are some caveats: The hotel is boisterous and seems geared for families with children, but not for romantic get-aways. The 2nd and 3rd bedrooms lack views, unlike the master, which has an ocean view. The internet is slow. During busy times, the elevators get busy. We occasionally walked down 5 flights. The boardwalk is beyond walking distance, so you will have to drive or buy a bus pass. Still, the Carousel is a good base of operations for a beach vacation. The 3-bedroom condo on the 6th floor at the Carousel was convenient, comfortable and as cost efficient as you can get in the current market. If we can get another group together, we will happily return.

The beach, restaurants, shops, and everything you need are right there. We stayed in a beachfront condo on the 15th floor. The view was absolutely incredible and made waking up every morning worth it. The only downside was that there are only two elevators for the condos, so there could be a wait during busy times. Was there some sand on the carpet? Yes-but you're staying at the beach, so that's to be expected. The hotel is definitely showing its age, but it was clean enough for us, and every employee we interacted with was friendly, kind, and accommodating. We also appreciated that towels were available at both the indoor and outdoor pools, and having the indoor ice skating rink was a fun bonus, especially for families. If you're looking for a luxury, newly renovated resort, this probably isn't it. Also it's a drive to the boardwalk. But if you want an affordable beachfront stay in a fantastic location with great views and friendly staff, the Carousel is absolutely worth considering. We'd stay again.

Each staff member we interacted with was kind, attentive, and helpful. I appreciated the checking-in texts; it added a personalized touch. We fortunately had zero issues, with the room and the facilities. We stayed in a renovated room and it was a comfortable and welcoming stay! Plenty of space for two of us, and the added furniture felt homey. The view of the bay on the balconette is serene. Everything was clean, orderly, and intentional. A phenomenal, elevated experience for a budget-friendly stay!

Premium Pricing for a Shockingly Neglected, Poorly Managed, and Undisclosed Renovation Property…read more We stayed at Coconut Malorie this past weekend and paid a premium rate because of Oceans Calling. Even though the festival was canceled due to the Nor'easter, the hotel kept event‑weekend pricing. What we walked into was nowhere near acceptable for any price point, let alone a premium one. The property was in disarray from the moment we arrived. The parking lot had a dumpster overflowing with discarded furniture and mattresses. The lobby was filled with picture frames pulled from guest rooms, making it look more like a storage area than a functioning hotel. Only after checking in did we discover the property was under renovation -- something not shown anywhere during booking. The only mention was buried inside an "info" tab on the property page, not on the booking flow, not on the confirmation, and not disclosed upfront. For a premium event weekend, this lack of transparency is unacceptable. The elevators were filthy and clearly neglected. When we entered our room, half the room had no power because the circuit breaker was tripped. Maintenance did fix it, but it was an immediate red flag about the building's condition. Unfortunately, the issues didn't stop there. The AC unit had no cover and provided no heat during a cold, windy weekend. There was visible black mold on the ceiling. The patio door had mismatched handles -- and worse, the lock didn't work at all, leaving the room unsecured. During the storm, water leaked into the room above the patio door, adding a literal drip to an already miserable stay. Basic room standards weren't met: * Loose and frayed carpet threshold between the hallway and the room * Huge gap under the front door letting in light, noise, and cold air * Loose toilet seat * Bare walls * No bed skirt * TV stuck in a zoomed HD mode, cutting off the left and right sides We reported all of this to the front desk. There was no manager on property -- on the prime weekend/event check‑in day -- and we were offered nothing. No solution, no compensation, not even basic concern. For a weekend already impacted by the Nor'easter and the cancellation of Oceans Calling, Coconut Malorie made the experience significantly worse. Charging premium rates for a room and property in this condition -- while hiding active renovations and providing no management support whatsoever -- is unacceptable.!!! Where is the leadership at this property?
