Lucky for me, Katie at the Mirror Lake Inn spa grabbed her hot stones and got to WORK. The 80 minute massage I experienced was truly next level relaxation. I made the appointment for a Friday one week before, and was so excited to get in. The spa itself is gorgeous, though a huge bummer that the sauna and locker room aren't accessible at this time due to COVID. I took a walk through and had envy for everyone who got to enjoy that level of LAVISH. Still 5 stars even though I didn't get the full experience. Staff was fantastic and you can't beat the location. This is the biggest, splurgiest "treat yo self" I'll do all year, as an 80 minute hot stone massage ran me more than $200 with tip. She's not cheap but I will continue to rationalize this experience in my head as 100000% worth it. The need to not pay attention to anything but my back feeling better for an hour was a gift only $200 can buy. This business page is confusing and the photos are more indicative of the INN then the spa. I stayed at the next door high peaks resort and did a service here, and you do not have the stay at the inn to enjoy the spa. The Inn looks out over Mirror Lake with spectacular views of the lake and Adirondacks. Our room was large, comfortable, and beautiful. The Inn amenities include small lake front beach, indoor (heated) swimming pool, and the largest hot tub I've ever seen in my life. There are three dining options - upscale restaurant, casual bar (they share the same 4 diamond restaurant kitchen) and a waterfront pub. We spent time at all threes spots. This is a fantastic spot for a peaceful getaway with a splash of luxury. We stayed here for a couple of nights after hiking in the Adirondacks. We arrived a bit early, before our room was ready, so the front desk offered us complementary fresh baked cookies, coffee, and tea; and invited us to explore downtown Lake Placid while promising to call us when it was ready. They did. The staff exceeded our expectations in a variety of other ways. On two occasions they sent gifts to our room (which overlooked scenic Mirror Lake): a box of nice chocolates and a bottle of champagne on ice, because they knew we were visiting the area for our anniversary. The Inn offers afternoon tea on the weekends, which is served by a polite staff member with white gloves in the living room, which, by the way, is spectacular. It's a spotless, wood-paneled area with two rooms, a dual fire place, several balconies, a ton of cozy couches and armchairs, and even complementary copies of major newspapers. One evening a staff member even went out of her way to build an impressive fire in the fireplace for us. It was a nice way to wind down. There is also coffee and tea available throughout the day in the lobby, which we took advantage of a few times during our stay. It would have been nice to have some water available as well, but that's basically the only negative I can come up with about our entire stay. Finally on several occasions we were invited to contact the staff with any questions or concerns about anything. This sounds like a standard hospitality gesture, but it was tactfully reiterated several times throughout our stay which made us feel especially welcome. Exceptional service throughout the entire stay. The highlight of our stay was our splurge on a couple's massage. The masseuses were very professional and friendly. The massage really helped to relieve our hiking soreness and was very relaxing. They also talked to us before and after the appointment, which made us feel comfortable as their clients. Afterwards we got to take advantage of the spa amenities, which include whirlpools, eucalyptus steam rooms, showers, and well-stocked vanities. We didn't want to leave! We discovered that the Inn also owns some lakefront property, and the front desk arranged for a staff member to hook us up with a rowboat at no cost. If you stay at the Inn and are fortunate enough to get good weather, I highly recommend paddling around the incredibly scenic lake and taking in the breathtaking mountain and small town views. We also took advantage of the Inn's ground floor pool, sauna, and jacuzzi. This truly is more than just a nice place to sleep. We didn't end up trying either of the two restaurants accessible from the lobby, but one of them is a highly rated fancy establishment that the hotel seems quite proud of. Given our limited time in the area, we wanted to take advantage of other places to explore and eat in the area. But if upscale dining is your jam, this seems like a good place to get your fix. I understand the Inn also owns the Cottage across the street, which we visited twice -- once for dinner and another time for evening cocktails & appetizers in their outdoor lakefront dining area. Overall we loved staying here. We could have very easily had a nice stay without ever leaving the property itself; the fact that it's walking distance to Main Street makes it even better. I definitely expect that we will return for another relaxing summer getaway. read more

This was our second stay at the Mirror Lake Inn, and both times we came away with very positive feelings about the place. Rooms themselves are a 3, but the amenities, dining and common areas are a 4.5, so I'll round up to a 4. For those of you hoping for luxury, you'll find it in the service, amenities and dining, but may be disappointed by the standard rooms. They are on the small side and a little dowdy. The first time we stayed in a Noonmark room (on the third floor of the main building, awesome view of the lake), but this time we stayed in a newly remodeled lookout room - eh. It was on the first floor so the view wasnt as nice, and even though I enjoyed the enclosed "lookout" front room that was filled with daylight, I really missed the balcony that was sacrificed for this space. It all comes down to personal preference. The absolute best part of this hotel is that it has a wood burning fire going 24/7. It's effing amazing. I just adore that fire and could sit there in the cozy living area for hours undisturbed if I could. The whole lobby and main room smells like pine, cedar, holidays, happiness, campfires and nostalgia. I wish I could package that glorious scent up and spray it around my own home. If you stay here, you will fall in love with it. Another bonus: no cellphones allowed in the common areas. You'd be surprised how much of a cherished hush this creates. If only we could go back to the simpler days of no cellphones and no smartphones! We've used the hot tub, sauna, indoor and outdoor pools multiple times. The indoor pool complex is super hokey in a 1980s Walt Disney World kind of way. But it's still well-maintained and incredibly relaxing after a long day of hiking with sore muscles. Food is amazing, but can only speak for Taste Bistro. Have eaten there twice and yet to be disappointed. Excellent service at the bar with a great mixologist at the helm. The Cottage on the lake has to be one of my favorite places in town, see my separate review. The hotel bakes fresh chocolate chip cookies daily and has complimentary afternoon tea every afternoon. Staff can't do enough to make you feel at home. Haven't had a massage at the spa but did get a Shellac manicure once - excellent and refreshing. My wife and I spent a great Memorial Day weekend at Mirror Lake Inn with daily visits to the spa, massages and walks around the lake and wonderful little town. Our stay was a great getaway and the entire staff at the Inn personified exceptional customer service. Here is just an example of the kind of care you can expect from them. One afternoon after spending an hour or so on the paddle boat and row boat we came back inside to our room to rest up. Someone in the front desk sent up a plate of cheese, gourmet crackers and fresh fruit just because they thought we'd like something after the lake. There was just so many little details that they so meticulously attended to you really felt well taken care of. Our stay was also part of a getaway package so we also enjoyed their breakfast buffet and their excellent restaurant, The View, for dinner. The food at the View was really good and easily the finest dining option in the area and comparable to the finest restaurants in New York City. I will honestly say that I probably would not select the food package option again because there are a lot of really interesting restaurants around the lake that I would have liked to try for breakfast and dinner. Overall, the Mirror Lake Inn is not cheap but a great choice for an indulgent little getaway. read more

My girlfriend and I spent 4 days here for Christmas vacation and I have to say the service and atmosphere at the Mirror Lake Inn was amazing for the holidays. We arrived late in the evening after a long 5 hour drive and was pleasantly surprised that the Inn had gone all out in decorating for the holidays. We stayed in a suite in the Colonial House right in front of the lake. The rooms were very spacious with the perfect balance of rustic decor and modern touches. One great thing about the suite was the push button fireplace which just adds to the charm of this wonderful property. In addition, Mirror Lake will put a fully decorated Christmas tree into your room before you arrive for a fee. If you are into the whole Christmas celebration, this is a must. Also being on the ground floor allowed us to walk from our private patio right onto the lake area. The mountain views were absolutely breath taking. The only reason I gave this 4 out of 5 stars instead of the perfect 5 out of 5 is the restaurant located on the property (same owner as the Inn) charged our credit card three times accidentally and it took nearly a month to get everything sorted out. Had a spa pedicure here (50 min for $50). It was the basics as far as a pedi is concerned and looked/felt good when it was done. The reason I only gave 3 stars is I was taken back 10 mins late and technician only spent 35min with me!!! If I pay for 50 mins that's what I want. 10 mins more for a massage would have been ideal. The town of Lake Placid is actually located on Mirror Lake. If you are planning a visit to Lake Place this is the place to stay. I have not been able to stay since it was sold out when I wanted to book. However, I have had dinner and been to the bar for drinks (the first time I ever had the Raspberry Framboise Lambic Belgium Ale). Our room was perfect, a great sitting area overlooking the lake, a scrumptious bed, fluffy pillows, lovely decor and very comfortable. My wife and I recently spent 2 nights in a Mountain View room at Mirror Lake Inn and it was absolutely fantastic. From the moment you walk in, the staff is so polite and accommodating. The front desk person who checked us in was very thorough explaining about the Inn and its amenities. Every staff member we passed during our say made eye contact and said hello. One staff member wouldn't even let me hold the door for her and she was the one with her arms full. They really put the guests first. The free boat (paddle, row or kayak) rental from their private beach is a really nice touch. I've never had the opportunity to try a kayak and the calm, pristine Mirror Lake was an excellent first experience. The boathouse attendant was really friendly and conversational as well. We had a snack at the Cottage restaurant, which is their most casual offering. We only had nachos, which were simply ordinary. They had a nice local/regional beer selection. We had breakfast at The View restaurant, which is their higher end offering. Breakfast was casual though as they served it buffet style with standard breakfast offerings, plus a made-to-order omelet bar. Their third restaurant offering is Taste Bistro & Bar. We didn't eat there, but did have a drink. Service was good, as was the whiskey sour. The decor of the hotel was awesome. There was so much detail that gave it a very north woods feel. I enjoyed just sitting on the couch in the Taste Bistro with a drink and admiring the decor. The indoor pool area was nice. Well kept with a big hot tub. We borrowed Yahtzee from their big game list and played poolside. The Mountain View room was very clean and had modern amenities. The view on the balcony was incredible and it was so nice to sit out there with a beer and a board game. The only real negative thing was all the kids at the resort. I didn't anticipate that (primarily because of the price of the resort -- I thought it'd be more couple-oriented). Of course, this isn't the resort's fault as it's summer vacation time. The kids of course overtook the pool and hot tub, which was annoying. I did appreciate that the staff was quick to enforce the rules on the kids who were in the hot tub without their parents watching, and also made sure to reprimand the kids eating cookies in the hot tub. I think an adult-only swim hour in the evening would be an excellent idea. Also, I think they should include Wifi for free. For how much they charge for rooms, it would be a nice service. While pricey, overall it was a fantastic stay and a great way to celebrate our 10-year wedding anniversary. We'll be back! read more

My husband and I celebrated our honey moon at the Mirror Lake Inn and we will cherish the memories from those days for the rest of our lives. We were lucky to have selected the peak dates of automn colors providing spectaclular views on the lakes and in the area. We loved the Inn, our room was fantastic with a view on the lake, a giant confortable bed, fluffy pillows and little sunroom with a Juliette balcony. The staff was really nice and accomodating. We were surprised with a box of local chocolate and a bottle of delicious French sparkling wine to celebrate our honeymoon. The reading room is absolutely fantastic with an on-going fire that kept us warm. We hope to go back. read more

Absolutely stunning. Just stayed here in early March for 4 days and had a great trip. I had always wanted to come here as a little kid when we camped during the summer in Lake Placid, and I'm glad I finally got the chance to! The staff was friendly, professional and helpful and the property is just beautiful. I had an enclosed balcony on my room with a great view of the lake and mountains. We dined one night at The View, which was a great experience (expensive though). Killer wine list - we had one bottle of Veuve Rosé and a 2000 Napa Cab (I dont recall the name) which was great. Service was spectacular, and my foie gras and duck were both done perfectly. Breakfast in the same space every morning was also fantastic. Had an array of different things but my favorite was the crab cake eggs benedict! Service can be sloooow here in the morning, however. I guess it depends on what time you go. My ONLY real issue with the Mirror Lake Inn was the spa. I scheduled a pedicure and was pretty disappointed with it. For $60 and it being at a hotel spa, you'd expect it to be pretty fabulous. The woman was nice, but she was 15 minutes late and the treatment didnt fit the description at all (no massage, no foot scrub). I was in and out quickly and it didnt feel luxurious at all. I've gotten much better pedicures at home for $30. I was also pretty disappointed that I wasnt able to use the steam room/pool in the back of the spa. Its very misleading to say that all spa appointments can use it afterwards, because apparently that's not true. However, the other pool area and hot tub were very nice, clean and spacious. I also used the hotel gym a couple times, which I found to be pretty nice for being at a hotel. read more

Bellman who helped check us out today was terrific. Shampoo wasn't sudsing, noticed it had expired over a year ago. I'm a clean freak and a self-proclaimed germaphobe. We stay at a lot of hotels, and I can honestly say that I've never seen a hotel bathroom as clean as this one. Our entire room was actually spotless and passed my white glove and black light test. Kudos to the housekeepers! They do a phenomenal job! The location is great! All of the employees were very friendly and accommodating, with the exception of the staff in The View restaurant, but that's a separate review. read more

There is much to like here- the decor, the views, the spa and ( mostly) friendly staff. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. There is a large pool and equally large hot tub. The management, however, is unlike any I have come across traveling the world and staying at 5 star hotels. The policies are strange- charging for wi-fi( they explain this with a long , rambling story about hacking. Charging for breakfast. Making a huge deal about the special coffee that explains why no coffee maker in the room. ( Just put a coffee maker in the rooms). Bragging in every note to reviewers about what is "free"- 5 star hotels just do it without the brag. Maybe I am spoiled but whispering charms a lot more than a shout or a " you are wrong" response to complaints. Luckily the staff seems unaffected- they were warm and tried hard to please. They actually look out over mirror lake, and the hotel is located just far enough from Main St. so that you hear nothing, bit close enough for it to be a 4 minute walk to the shops. They have their own restaurants at the hotel, but c'mon. It's lake placid! Very cozy, they serve afternoon tea, and they have their private beach with free paddleboat/board/kayak rentals, so long as you don't hit any swimmers. Stay here! You'll love it! read more

We had an unfortunate stay at Mirror Lake. The beds were uncomfortable, there was no coffee machine in the room (and the hotel coffee was terrible) and while they have a bar in the hotel with a TV, the hotel is so stuffy that they would not allow the volume to be used on the TV. We were there during the Super Bowl and they would not turn on the volume even during the National Anthem. And frankly, the restaurant manager was rude. For these reasons, I would not recommend this hotel to anyone who would like a customer-centric weekend, especially when paying top dollar. That all said, the Spa was amazing. read more

Wifi is not complimentary, they make you pay for it (and when the room is so expensive, that's a little ridiculous.) And the associated restaurant The Cottage across the street seems to have slipped a little too. Took a short vacation here in December. Our experience was great start to finish, from even before we checked in - there was a party the evening we arrived that took over the main lodge, and we were called in advance to make sure we weren't caught off-guard. The main building is amazing, intricate, old, comfortable, lavish. The Cottage was a great place for a more casual evening, the Taste Bistro was perfect for a nightcap, and The View lived up to its excellent reputation. In short - completely worth the investment. We enjoyed our recent stay at Mirror Lake Inn. We had a Cloudspitter room in the Mountainview Bldg with gorgeous view of the lake and the mountains. Our room was nice size, clean and comfortable. One issue we had was that there was no coffee maker in the room and no coffee available in the lobby in the morning (they do have coffee/tea in the afternoon). We thought this to be unusual and a bit inconvenient. We found the staff to be friendly and helpful. A turnoff for me was the two+ page list of rules and regulations that was handed to us at check in. Although none of them applied to us, and It seemed like they are trying to cover all their bases, I still found it to be a huge negative and deterred us from using the facilities. We did have drinks at The Cottage and that was pleasant. Also we found the $7/day gratuity charge to be unusual and a bit excessive (we typically leave $5/day for maid service). All in all, we enjoyed our stay, but might reconsider returning to Mirror Lake Inn. read more

I came here to step away from work for a mini-vacation. I must say - this place..including the small lake and Lake Placid, Whiteface Mountain, High Falls Gorge and Olympic Village are going to HEAL me. The town has a sort of old mining charm, but is not necessarily rustic. There are plenty of modern shops for both clothing and gear, a Starbucks, a Ben and Jerry's, all of it. Just miles away from untouched beauty. The hotel itself looks colonial and pristine from the outside and the grounds are maintained very well. Inside, one walks into a hunter's paradise. Dark woods, leather chairs, plenty of seating inside and outside the lounge areas to enjoy the view of Mirror Lake. Three restaurants on-site, a spa (with WONDERFUL and capable practitioners) that will take your breath away and free use of paddle boats, kayaks and canoes at the small private beach across the street. They even do a s'more fire pit once a week! The cranial-sacral massage by MaryBeth was especially helpful and recommended. During my stay, I asked if I may see some other rooms that were vacant...in case I may want to change rooms. I was shown four rooms by the bellman (Toby) and he was more than cheery about guiding me - telling me the history behind the rooms and explaining other parts of the property as well. I ended up wanting to switch to a room (the Ausable room) with a jacuzzi tub and the cost difference (because it was the weekend) was going to be prohibitive. The front desk staff all held a pow-wow and Chris, the manager, came out and gave me an offer I could NOT refuse to upgrade to the new room. They even moved all my things for me while I ate dinner. ***Sidebar - Rachel in the Taste Bistro bar is AMAZING - great bartender and wonderful to talk with. I am extremely happy with this hotel as I had a choice between this one and another spa hotel on Lake George. I chose well. I would recommend for adult getaways and quiet, serene hiking vacations. Kids are allowed, but the owners maintain a STRICT policy of "mannered behavior" in the common areas of the hotel. Heavy frolicking is not permitted. read more

I stayed at the Mirror Lake with my boyfriend last month and still keep thinking of the amazing time we had. I would recommend it to anyone and look forward to going back some day. The hotel and grounds are beautifull and the view from our room was breath taking! The staff was friendlly, intuitive and so helpful. The lake is stunning and the resort provides kayaks, canoes and paddle boats. The restaurants on site are all equally delicious and we were surprised by the treat of live music. The View on the first floor is amazing. Had a birthday dinner there last night and it was perfect in almost every way. The service was top notch. The food was great and for someone who is gluten free, the roll they brought me, fresh from the oven resembled a popover. Had after dinner drinks in the game room. Wine was very good and we compare it to Napa Valley wine. Only thing I would suggest is to ask if Cassis or Raspberry liqueur is preferred in a Kir Royale. My girlfriend and I had reservations at Mirror Lake Inn from 7/17/17 to 7/21/17. My girlfriend made hotel reservations and discussed that I don't eat pepper when she made dinner reservations, both in April. After a 6 hour drive we arrived at the inn where there is a No Parking sign at the main entrance. We pulled to the side and went in to register. During the check in process no bell services were offered so we inquired. The front desk person told us to drive to the rear of the building and park; someone would meet us to help with our luggage as our room was in another building. A bellman met us and said he had to use a flight of stairs to enter our building to get to our room. We had quite a bit of luggage so he finally got a cart, entered the rear of the main building, went to the third floor on an elevator, crossed a walkway and went to the eighth floor on a second elevator to get to our room. The room was pretty and spacious with a comfortable seating area but the inn is old and does need some updating. My girlfriend drinks coffee and there was no coffeemaker in the room. We asked for one and the staff graciously brought a coffeemaker with a four day supply of coffee and condiments. (They do have coffee in the lobby but if you'd like to stay in your room this is inconvenient.). The gounds of the inn are very pretty. The indoor and outdoor pools and hot tub are enjoyable. There are three restaurants, 2 in the inn and 1 across the street. Due to some food preparation issues and very rude responses from the restaurant supervisor Justin and director of rooms Christopher [-] we checked out a day early (7/20/17) when we were told on our third night at 8:30 PM on 7/19/17 that we would no longer be served food at the inn. The management decided this after multiple discussions about food, namely that I cannot eat pepper and vegetables that were prepared very hard 2 nights in a row. These issues came up on our first two nights in 2 different restaurants at the inn. The chef told our server on the second night he was afraid to send a substitute for the first complimentary course out to me because I don't eat goat cheese and wasn't pleased with anything. There are kids on Chopped on the cooking channel that accept a challenge better than their France trained chef. I spoke to Seth Dow the night front desk manager. I asked to check out the following morning. He said we would not be charged for the fourth night or our spa reservations which he cancelled. My girlfriend was extremely upset and our vacation was ruined. We ate a lovely dinner in town at 8:55 PM, packed our car and left the next morning, a day early, after another encounter with Christopher [-] who told us to "Pay your bill and get out!". I asked for a credit for our last night we stayed and was denied. If I knew the inn would not serve us food I would have checked out even earlier. This inn is overrated. The customer service is poor. I would never return to this inn. Now, I'm going to tell you what will happen next as seen in other reviews of this type. The owner Ed [-] or a manager will respond to this review by saying "You are banned from the inn and not welcome to return.". Unless you are raving about this place you are not welcome here. There is nothing 4 star or 4 diamond about this inn. There are plenty of four and five star places to vacation. This inn is resting on its laurels. The spa is amazing - always tranquil, peaceful and serene. The Mirror Lake Inn is a bit of heaven for me - the services are always wonderful but the setting is what makes it. With a mahogany locker area, spacious shower rooms, a eucalyptus steam room and whirlpool jacuzzi situated next to a fireplace, the Mirror Lake Inn know how to make guests relax. We stayed in the Little Whiteface suite in the Colonial House located right on Mirror Lake for the Lake Placid Ironman. It was the perfect place for us. The suite has two good sized well appointed bedrooms. My two daughters slept in one and myself in the other. The suite also had two beautiful bathrooms. The service at the Inn was pretty good as well. They delivered a nice platter of delicious food for us to snack on each afternoon. My only negative experience was from a woman at the front desk one evening telling us that she needed to take $20 deposits on two very old rundown umbrellas. We were a bit taken back by that considering the money we spent on the suite. read more

Facilities are top notch. Pool, jacuzzi is beautiful. Room was very clean. Views are incredible. Very expensive. Not much parking and front desk had no idea what they are doing. Had a good stay but probably would stay somewhere else next time. read more

We just returned from four nights (including New Year's Eve) at the Mirror Lake Inn. My husband and I brought our two twenty-something daughters plus one's boyfriend and the other's fiance. We had an amazing visit despite the drizzly weather during the first two days. The hotel was beautifully decorated for Christmas; our rooms were large and well-appointed with stunning views of Mirror Lake; and our New Year's Eve dinner was fantastic! The staff went out of their way to make our visit perfect. They were always offering to do more. One daughter and boyfriend had written "SNOW" on the ledge outside their window (when it finally arrived)... the housekeeping staff responded in the snow with "Happy New Year!" That impressed one and all! One daughter left a dress hanging on the back of the bathroom door and so missed packing it upon departure. I called the head of Housekeeping and he attended to it immediately. We received the package in the mail within days. The only minor comment is one of our massage therapists at the spa seemed a bit new to massage. Two of us had the same therapist and agreed that he was nice and attentive, but didn't seem to have much experience. It was expensive, but we felt the service and facility were worth the price! The Spa at Mirror Lake Inn. Ahhhhh .... Just ahhhhhhhh. The hubs wanted to do a longer, much more difficult hike than I wanted to. So he surprised me with the suggestion that since I had done all of the planning/logistical-management for our ADK vacay + all the grocery shopping and cooking, that I check in to the spa while he hiked, and soothe my sore hiking/kayaking/mountain-biking muscles. Ummm ... OK! This has been one of the best massages I've gotten in a spa setting. If she's still employed there and available, request Katie. She is GREAT! Perfect amount of pressure, very skilled, clearly experienced & knowledgeable & intuitive, kind, and just knows how to make sure you receive a self-indulgent treat! I wish the steam-room had been more steamy and eucalyptus-y. And maybe some hot tea offerings and more reclining lounging chairs in the parlor/waiting area. But those are minor critiques, relative to the whole experience, which was fabulous. Steam room, very good & large hot tub with tons of jets to hit all your tight muscles, access to indoor pool which does have lounge chairs for relaxing, they offer food/drink delivery service, full locker room with well-stocked grooming area. We paid a pretty penny, so there was a lot to live up to... our room was in the mountain view building, 3rd floor and we had beautiful views of mirror lake and the mountains. The room was spacious and clean, with a nice balcony and the beds were very comfortable. Desk staff was always warm and friendly. The common areas are very well kept. Those qualities gave it the third star. There are a bunch of minor negatives in my opinion. I was slightly disappointed that one of the parking lots was directly below our room, at times it would be quite noisy when people were coming or going. Also, the entrance to the main building was there as well. You are not allowed to use your cell phone in the lobby, which is a positive although I noticed a few people having their conversations at the entrance way, which was a bit annoying when you are trying to relax and enjoy the view in peace. (this really isn't an issue for the hotel - i just wish people were more considerate!) I suppose the cottage house would be much more serene - as it is directly on the lake itself, but I can only assume this is much more costly... (and we paid just over $400/night). I just expected it to be more quiet given the rate we paid after seeing the website and reading a bunch about it. With that said, the mirror lake inn is at the end of the main town, so it is much quieter than other hotels in the area and in good walking distance to the main drag. If you are looking for an extremely quiet setting - the resort town of placid may not be the place for you as most of the village is quite built up... The decor was definitely not my style - it is very 'adirondack - victorian-ish' - wall paper galore! i would call it outdated but this is just my personal preference. One last thing worth mentioning and is actually my biggest complaint- they automatically add daily gratuity for the maid ($3.50 per person/per day) and the breakfast/dinner waitstaff ($3 per person/per day). They make this very clear but this really annoyed me. It annoys me that I have to feel cheap not leaving a tip at a table when I leave because it was already included. You end up tipping anyway, which adds up to much more than you would normally. This means that I tipped our maid $21 for 3 days of our stay - though I only requested maid service on one day. It's just down right unfair. Overall, I guess my expectations were very high given previous reviews as well as the rate that we paid, and I felt these issues couldn't be ignored. My overall experience was good, I would probably consider staying elsewhere next time though. p.s. and if you stay there just notice all the signs around - they have quite a few 'rules and regulations!' I just thought that was funny to mention and I guess i was just wondering if anyone else noticed that. read more

The Mirror Lake Inn is about as nice as it gets in Lake Placid. Booked two nights here and had a great time. Friendly staff, very nice accommodations and great dining options on the premises. Rooms can be a bit pricey, but the ambiance of the place is well worth it. Basic rooms start around $300 per night. The Inn holds the AAA four-star diamond award and it's well deserved. The View Restaurant, located on the first floor of the main house, is exceptional. Dined here two nights and the food was superb. Highly recommend the goat cheese tart, rack of lamb and Tazmanian salmon from the menu. We've actually booked several rooms for the family at Christmas this year and we all plan to celebrate here instead of home! Can't wait to go back. read more
