And my 60 minute massage only relaxed me more. My masseuse was a very good communicator and before getting started, she asked me about my preferences, which I really appreciated. The massage was thorough and did not feel rushed. I would definitely recommend the spa and I would love to come back for a facial.

I had been experiencing a lot of low back pain, had a very stressful sales job, and was a few months away from having surgery so I needed something to help me with all of this. Enter Urban Breath Yoga. From my first class, restorative yoga with Erin, I immediately fell in love with this place. It was everything I needed and more. I'm not even exaggerating. My body felt so good that I started balling during class because there was no other way to express my joy. I wanted to talk to her about it afterwards, but I was a mess lol A couple months in and I realized I had no more lower back pain? It just disappeared? I always looked forward to clocking out at 5:30pm so I could rush over and release all my stress during vinyasa, hatha, power, and warm yoga. Then after my surgery I was able to slowly build back up without straining myself with restorative, nidra, and yoga basics. Also a HUGE shoutout to Michelle for being such a doll in helping me when I had to be out for a month, there was no issue in pausing my membership while I recovered and they welcomed me back with open arms. I'm currently on day four and the only reason I skipped a day was because I needed a rest day but had my body not needed it I would've gone back for more! Allison, Katie, and Heather all taught the warm vinyasa classes I've tried out and all of their sequences have been so fun and challenging. It has been a few years since I had my last practice back in maplewood so I am so so happy that this studio is right across the highway from my house! (4 minute drive? A dream) It's also great that they have two other studios I can practice in as well in chesterfield and Wentzville. They have lots of workshops and they're currently planning a retreat in Bali. I've always wanted to go on a retreat and love that it's an option with people from my area. There was a woman asking questions about it who was so kind. Everyone I've interacted with so far has been kind. Clean studio, little shop at the front including products like lululemon and manduka, iPad check-in, shelves for personal items and locker room. Mat cleaner inside the rooms and cold towels during shavasana. Little shopping center but has a lot of spaces in the parking lot. Can't wait to try sculpt + flow tomorrow, mat Pilates next week and yin! Excited to see how this place will continue to challenge me and help me with my practice! As a yoga instructor myself, I was looking for somewhere to practice that would hold me accountable and also stretch me in new ways. Detox fits the bill. It's hard (let me be honest, any place that makes me practice standing balance is hard ) but doable. And since at least one or two of the flows will be repeated in many classes, yogis have a chance to see their practice grow and expand, which is always so encouraging for students.

I usually spend Christmas week with my family in St. Louis. Until this year, there were only three…read moreyoga studios that taught hot yoga: two Bikram studios and one that taught vinyasa. I really hate vinyasa with a passion and I wasn't too gone on the Bikram studio that I had tried before. So, I was thrilled to find Prana Yoga after some googling. Prana Yoga is tucked in an unassuming strip mall in the northern suburb of Des Peres. (So, don't worry about parking because its plentiful.) Prana was founded by a couple of Bikram certified yoga instructors who wanted to teach yoga styles other than Bikram. I took class the 90 minute Prana Hot Yoga class from the owners Mary Jane Cusumano and Melanie Zuanich on two separate occassions. As you would expect, you do some, but not all of the Bikram series and some new yoga poses in a heated room. You also do a bit of "core" work which reminded me of CorePower. The instructor doesn't actually demonstrate any of the postures and there is a little podium at the front of the room. This was reminiscent of Bikram but that's where the similarities ended. The instructor does not bark orders at you and doesn't wear a wireless mic. There is a hardwood floor and no stinky carpet. Check-in was welcoming and friendly. Your second class is free and if you take their Prana Hot class you get free towels in the changing room. The changing room is HUGE so you don't have to worry about bumping into people. There are no lockers in the changing room though. Overall, the studio is very clean. You can tell that the owners actually takes pride in the way it looks. Prana is a great place to practice if you are looking for an alternative to the St. Louis Bikram.
