I have what I consider my go to place when it comes to Catfish but I decided to try Soul Spot Wings because of their combo. It was the same or a little less in price compared to my favorite spot. I ordered online and arrived, sat in the car for additional minutes and then went into the restaurant. I try to be considerate and respect pick up times because businesses can be behind and really need patrons to stick to the time frame. Well I went on in and glad I did because my order did not go across until someone checked it which meant I had to wait additional minutes. I reached out to the service, not to complain but give them a heads up. They responded immediately, which I appreciated. I ordered the Catfish Combo (fried hard), bone in wings (soul sauce flavored and only one flat, should have taken a chance and asked for majority flats) and it included a side and beverage. I decided on fries and a 20oz Pepsi. There was bread and hushpuppies. Everything came out hot. I arrived home and realized it was enough for two meals. The fish was seasoned and they hit it with right amount of grease for the crispiness. Although a little on edge about the ordering process. I know it happens but glad I was able to communicate it and receive a pleasant response. I really enjoyed my meal. I've been in love with their wings and ranch cheese fries since they were open in Calera. They have been able to maintain stellar customer service throughout, similar to eating at a family member's house. My go to meal would be a 15 piece boneless wing combo with ranch cheese fries and a soul punch to drink. They have since added several options for delivery, which has proven very convenient. The wings are amazing. They close early though. Like in the middle of what other restaurants would say is "busy or peak time."

The wet lemon pepper wings are delicious. Fries are good too, especially ranch bacon ones. Service is outstanding. Highly recommend if you're in the mood for wings. They also take COVID precautions very seriously. read more

I understand everyone is struggling to get help and everyone is understaffed, but do you ever stop and ask why? I watched (what I assumed was the owner, just by the way she was acting to everyone else) literally yell and cuss at employees who honestly seemed to be doing their best- I felt so bad for them. Everyone knows it's a small town area, so when a business is treating employees like crap, everyone knows. I mean, who makes an employee pay for a cup to get water? Soul Spot does! This is probably the worst restaurant I've been to in the Calera area. I've been here twice and felt like I've wasted my money. The first time I ordered the cheeseburger deluxe (well done) with fries. I was excited to find out that the patties were hand patted, but was highly disappointed when I bit into my burger because it was red in the middle and not well done. I didn't fret too much considering that this was the grand opening and they were super busy. My second visit was about 2-3 months later and this was a flop as well. I ordered the fried catfish and shrimp plate with fries and hush puppies. The fish and shrimp batter tasted like cake mix and the meat had very minimal seasoning. The shrimp also tasted rubbery. Due to the time of day I visited, they were out of a lot of items. I decided to try the fish and wing plate. Since they didn't have any whole wings, I tried the wet lemon pepper. The wet lemon pepper is buffalo sauce with lemon pepper seasoning. I got mild sauce because I'm not a big fan of spicy food. The wings had good flavor, however they needed more sauce. The tilapia was fried really good, not much seasoning. They have a homemade tarter sauce that will make anything you eat taste delicious. The fish with the tartar sauce, was OMG good! Their hush puppies are some of the best I have ever had. Perfectly crunchy on the outside, and moist and delicious. The hush puppies themselves will have me coming back. read more

Called this location to place an order. Four attempts made. No answer and the line stated that the voicemail was full. My family and I decided to drive to the location. When we arrived to the window, the male server asked that we call in our order. We parked on the side of the building and called. Again there was no answer, then line rang several times and went to a full voicemail. After three attempts, we decided to leave. I'd like for the owners to know that as a courtesy, I believe the employee at the window should have taken our order at the window. There were zero cars behind us. As a business owner myself, I wonder how many customers you've lost due to a faulty ordering process? We had never eaten here before and thought we would give it a try. The ladies in the front were really kind and let us try a sauce sample before we ordered our food. Then, the food was amazing with the buffalo wings being nice and crispy (and sauced well) and also the chicken tenders were like they were homemade. We will definitely be back quite often and look forward to more amazing food!!! read more
