My all time favorite music teacher in the Bay Area. She's nice, patient, courteous and super encouraging. She makes you fall in love with music. She encourages you to find your own voice and teaches you the techniques to accomplish that. I've been her student for about a year now. My range improved, my singing techniques are better and I learned how to use my diaphragm to sing. She also encourages you to go on stage to perform, which is a great way to improve as a vocalist. She teaches voice, guitar, piano and violin. She also teaches you how to write songs to express yourself in the language of music. Taking voice lesson with Cortnee is one of the top activities I look forward to every week. Cortnee is really a great teacher in all aspects. It starts with her raw music talent, as she possess a very uniquely beautiful voice such that she could demonstrate an entirely new way of presenting the music. The first thing I learned from Cortnee is how each person has a unique voice and one can just perform a piece of music in their own unique way. Her ability to improvise and play an instrument allows her to accompany any of the songs that I would like to learn. Second of all, Cortnee is very patient and encouraging. She can go over the part I don't do well in a song over and over again so that I get a firm grasp of that section. She is generous with her praises and at the same time provide great feedback on where I can improve. She also has some really interesting techniques that I practiced to improve my vocal range and color. The process was fun and also unique. The most important result from her encouragement is to allow me break out of my comfort zone and try out things I haven't thought about trying before. I learned a lot about musicianship from her. Cortnee isn't someone who wants me to learn by adhering to some standard or rigid music theory, but she teaches her student to learn to enjoy making music and achieve good result. read more

I've been a guitar player for over 20 years and I still had not learned how to sing! I tried going on youtube for some online tutorials but was frustrated with the results. Right away she was able to correct bad habits I had formed that my previous violin teacher never pointed out and I instantly started to see improvement.
