I took my 1989 study bible, which I have used almost every day since my in-laws gave it to me as a Christmas present, to Susan. The cover was completely detached and many of the maps had fallen out. I met with Susan with the expectation of getting a new cover, stopping the remaining pages from falling out and getting it back before Christmas. In less than a week (AS PROMISED), I picked up my bible which had a beautiful, new leather cover, all the pages sown back in, and the hundreds of pages that had creases in them ironed out flat. Amazingly, it is in better condition than when I received it brand new ... AND the cost was substantially cheaper than I had anticipated. I have a Dr. Seuss book that my parents gave to me when I was about four years old, 65 years ago. I've read it to my daughter every year on her birthday (she's now 38), and when she was old enough she began to read it to me. The book has my toddler scribbles in it, so it is a precious possession. The binding was falling apart, some pages were ripped, and the book was in disrepair from being lovingly handled over many years. Susan gave me an incredibly reasonable quote, and she completed the extensive repair work in less than a week! Susan was amazing! I got into a car accident and my bible was damaged - it was pretty special to me so I wanted to get it fixed and preserve the pages as much as possible. I called and met with Susan and she was so sweet and helpful - She talked through some options with me and was able to get it back to me before I left town. I hate to leave this review, but I don't know what else to do. I met with Susan Soleil on April 30. We had text many times ahead of that to try to get together. We finally met in Durham and she looked at my grandmother's Bible. She was excited to begin the project and gave me a price on $600.00. I gave her $300.00 as a down payment. I told her that I would like to have the Bible completed before Christmas because I wanted to give it to my son. She said that would not be a problem and she would be in touch. I texted her on May 16 to let her know that I gave her name to someone in my neighborhood that needed a Bible restored. She text me back and thanked me. I text again on June 26. No response. I text again on Saturday, Jan 28, still no response. I text her today, Jan.30. No response. Each time I text, I called as well and left a message. Now her voice mail is full. I also have emailed twice and still no response. I regret the day I met her! read more

Susan is incredible. We had originally worked with another company to customize notebooks for our employees' Christmas gifts, and when they dropped the ball, The Soleil Bookbindery was there to pick it up. Susan delivered the most beautiful, hand-pressed and customized notebooks for our employees to enjoy. Five months later, and lots of wear and tear in between, the custom print on the notebooks have held up beautifully. Susan is flexible, wonderful to work with, and she delivers great products in a speedy fashion. I would recommend her to anyone - and we definitely will be using her again in the future! read more

Susan worked on a multi-generational family bible in pretty poor condition and did a great job. She put on a new leather cover and did some additional restorative work to stabilize the bible for future generations to enjoy. Additionally, Susan restored an original edition of a book from 1896. Looks great. I feel the rates were fair as well. The only reason I did not give 5 stars is that it did take more time than originally promised to obtain the finished book. read more

Let me first say that this is the first negative review I've ever written but felt strongly that I needed to warn future patrons. I was looking for a unique gift for my little sister's wedding and had found some love letter exchanged between our great grandparents. I wanted to get them bound into a book and found Susan online- "Perfect!" I thought. I met with Susan and she seemed really excited about the project. We spent about an hour picking out materials and I was really impressed at the way Susan was able to facilitate translating what was in my head to what was sure to be an amazing gift. She said she would have it done in 2 weeks which was perfect timing because the wedding was taking place in 3 weeks. She did ask me to pay cash up front which I thought was a little odd but we were getting along and Susan seemed sweet so I agreed. As the due date approaches Susan calls and asks to postpone due to a visiting friend. I agreed to push it back a couple of days but stressed the upcoming wedding date and was told it wouldn't be a problem. On the next pickup date Susan called to say she couldn't meet me due to being stranded without a ride. I began to be skeptical but agreed to meet her later in the day. She cancelled. We set another pickup date 2 days before the wedding. I arrive at her studio at the appointed time, no one answers the door. No one answers the phone. No one returns the messages I left all day. At this point Susan has my money, my family heirlooms, and I have no wedding gift for my sister. At 8:30 in the evening Susan finally answers her door and hands me the stack of love letters, completely untouched. No apologies or explanations. Bottom line, my experience with Susan tells me she is both unprofessional and a liar. I can only hope her sense of shame matches my sense of disappointment. read more
