My husband and I have been visiting The Smoke Ring on and off for many years. I am a natural tabaco smoker and prefer to smoke high end natural cigarettes and enjoy the occasional cigar. My husband prefers cigars. We have always had an exceptional experience and service until today. I was smoking a cigarette while my husband was picking out the cigar I was going to smoke from the humidor and grabbing his from the locker he rents. The person working today walked over to me and said that smoking cigarettes was not permitted per the house rules. I have smoked cigarettes at The Smoke Ring for years before or after my cigar and have never been told it is not permitted. I asked for a copy of the house rules and was told they do not have a copy. I was also unable to find the house rules on the website stating this. My frustration is "tabacco is tabacco". If I put the tabacco from my cigarette into a pipe it wouldn't be any different. Also, having house rules listed publicly could prevent any possible issues. UPDATE: About an hour to an hour and a half after I wrote this review a man named "Larry" came in and identified himself as the owner. He approached my husband and I VERY aggressively and and arrogant. He said "I hear you have a problem with our policy's" I began to explain that I was unaware of the policy until today and I was unable to find the policy on the website or on the membership paperwork. I also explained that I lit a cigarette while my husband was picking out a cigar for me. Larry then said "this is a cigar bar lady and we don't have to post our policies" in a very aggressive tone. Larry then wrote a check for the locker rental and said we were not welcome back. This entire situation could have been handled in a professional manner and I could have changed the google review once the situation was resolved. However, after being completely disrespected I do not recommend this place to anyone. The owner is aggressive, arrogant, and unprofessional. My husband and his buddies will find a new lounge. Finally, I had the opportunity to experience The Smoke Ring cigar lounge. Here's the story. My family and I were lodging at the Courtyard Marriott in Kemah, Texas. I was finally able to step out and enjoy a fine cigar. As I left my room, a lovely woman named Britain greeted me, and I informed her that I was heading out to smoke cigars. Without fail, Britain advised me to go nowhere else but The Smoke Ring. I took her advice and immediately drove my rental there. Just as soon as I entered the cigar lounge, I was welcomed and greeted by everyone. I made my way to their Phenomenal humidor. By far and without a doubt, this humidor is one of the greatest I've seen for a cigar lounge the size of The Smoke Ring. I was in Houston for business and was looking for a chill place to hang out and reconnect with a dear friend and my nephew. My nephew suggested The Smoke Ring. The first thing I was struck by was the size of their selection. The large walk-in humidor had one of the best collections of cigars I have seen, and the staff was very knowledgeable about their products. It is a BYOB establishment, but they provide glasses and ice, and they have coffee available. We sat down on the big comfy chairs and had a conversation in a relaxed atmosphere. It is a hidden gem. Had my locker refunded and was asked not to come back because...get this...my wife smoked an all natural cigarette in the lounge whilst I was in the humidor picking out a cigar for her. The owner said we broke their "house rules" which he could not provide in writing or anywhere. In his rude, aggressive tone he told her" look lady this is a cigar bar, we don't have to post our rules." Then proceeded to say, " how about this, how about I cut you a check for your locker that you rent here and you never come back?!" To which I replied, " Go cut that check then." When I went to the Smoke Ring the staff was friendly and was able to ask questions about likes and dislikes regarding a smoke. After getting my feedback they lead me to several options to pick from in a target price range. I have been 3 times and they helped me find a good cigar every time and eve one for my bothers birthday. This place has a fantastic selection and a relaxing atmosphere. This is my favorite cigar lounge in the city. I have been to maybe 20 all around, and this one is just a bit better in almost every way, except outdoor seating. This place has almost no outside seating, during this time of keeping space between people, the patrons here are bringing their own chairs! Hopefully they will invest in some proper seating. But on to the rest of the shop! The cigar selection is great! Not an ever spanning room, but one filled with my favorites. The lounge is very nice and clears smoke well! This is Definitely the place to get some stogies on the south side of Houston. Depending on the time of day it's an easy in and out stop. Selection is great and the staff is very helpful...if you're gonna stay and light up this is the spot to go to...with nice relaxing lounge chairs, very clean restroom with all the amenities one can hope for in the Head. Now back to the time of day, if you come by during normal business hours of the adjacent lease spaces you might have a little difficulty in getting a parking spot but after those hours it's a breeze. After recently buying a humidor, we felt the need to fill its empty stomach with some yummy cigars and we were recommended The Smoke Ring. The cigar selection was phenomenal. Walls of cigars (and I heard that they boast the largest collection of Ashtons in Texas) everywhere that you can buy singly or by the box. They even have a 10% discount on non-specialty boxes that are over $60--not a bad deal. They had some nice humidors also, thought their lighter collection was a bit disappointing. They also had pipes, cases, loose tobacco, marble ash trays, and I'm sure much more that I skipped over. Now, why would I skip over the fun toys that come with such a nasty habit? Here's why. Evidently Sunday football means that no women are allowed in the shop. The look of disbelief as I walked in was noticeable and the mood change was perceptible. The men were all sitting around in plush leather couches, smoking and watching the game--pausing only to either A) check me out or B) glare at me for upsetting their boy time pow-wow. The laughable part of it all was how they tried so very hard to make it more than it was--and what it was was a bunch of grown men watching football. And yet, there were multiple men in there, wearing suits that cost as much as some cars with so much hair product that I thought it would be a fire hazard with all the smoking going on. The collection itself would've warranted a 5 star review, but the pretentious jerks sitting around made me dock off two whole stars. It is ridiculous to be so concerned with putting on airs that you ruin the atmosphere of a potentially great place. (Though, I did feel quite smug walking out of there with two boxes of cigars when they looked on incredulously as we walked out.) Conclusion? I'll go back, but not on a football day. If I have another terrible experience at this store, I may make the drive out to Sugarland to see if their branch is any better. read more

Really just super-impressed. Found this place here on Yelp, and after reading so many positive reviews decided to surprise the boyfriend with a trip here sight-unseen. He loves the occasional cigar but hadn't had one in a long time. The reviews were right -- everyone working there is so friendly, and so incredibly knowledgable. I followed the BF and the super nice guy helping us around (I think his name was Matt??) and was amazed at not only how much he knew about all the cigars, but by the sheer number of cigar varieties out there. I had no idea. Fascinating stuff, hearing the stories behind a lot of them! Armed with several new cigars to try, and me with a new pack of cloves and a lot of nostalgia, we made our way to the uber-comfortable seating area. Huge leather chairs, big TV's, giant ashtrays (emptied often, just while we were there!) and delicious coffee in real mugs. As the BF said, the only thing that could have made it better was if it were BYOB. :-) And I would like to say that I felt nothing but welcomed and comfortable there, even as a dreaded girl. ;-) It started out being just a hopefully-cool place to surprise my boyfriend with, but ended up being someplace I'm looking forward to going back to! read more

My husband and I love the Smoke Ring and visit as often as we can. Sometimes it's jsut a quick stop to grab a few cigars to take home and enjoy but most of the time we sit, relax and enjoy atleast one while there. Everyone, including the customers, have always been very friendly with me (I'm usually the only woman there amongst 6-10 men), so I'm not sure why Cora (previous reviewer) felt like she was unwelcome. Hubby sometimes stops on his way home from work to smoke a cigar and relax a bit or we will visit together on date night before or after we go to dinner. The Smoke Ring Clear Lake -- What else can i say about this place.. besides how awesome it is. I have been frequenting this spot since before they expanded and only had a small seating area for patrons to enjoy a stick. I would normally walk in and go straight to the humidor where i was ALWAYS met with one of the attentive and knowledgeable staff (shoutout to Matt, Chris, Pat and Eric). They would help me with my selection, after getting a rundown of my particular tastes and preferences and so far, i haven't been recommended a bad stick. Fast forward to now.. Still the same great staff, still the same great service but the Humidor choices have just exploded with even more tasty treats! I love that they have expanded the seating and the air filtration system they installed makes it easier for the women-folk that accompany me, to enjoy the atmosphere better (also helps my mild asthma lol). I have purchased many cigars, accessories and accumulated so much knowledge from this establishment and its staff. They remember me by name BUT i am always known at the "Social network guy" because i constantly post pictures of the storefront, humidor and my purchases on IG, Facebook, twitter etc. and tag them to it. Again.. i have never been disappointed when i come here. I used to work at NASA and now work in the oil and gas industry off of JFK and the beltway (bush IAH area). I have thought about moving but after stopping into another establishment by my job with a friend (it shall remain nameless) and not receiving the service, selection and overall atmosphere i get EVERY time at the smoke ring.. well it makes me reconsider moving lol. I used to frequent the original Smoke Ring. It was a simple shop, very laid back. This reincarnation is well stocked. It has a nice lounge area. The issue is with the staff. I had a pretentious juvenile explaining things to me like I was four. The owner hovered around me in the humidor and kept a close eye. When I checked out the same juvenile kinda scoffed at my selection. I didn't by Davidoff. I was not impressed. I have been a cigar aficionado, in a lose way, for nearly 30 years. I will stick to buying online. I am smoking a nice Cohiba Red Dot as I wright this, yesterday a very nice Olivia V. Both bought online Half the price, no snubbing. Nice sized humidor with a good selection, including Davidoff, if you're into that sort of thing. Very reasonable prices, didn't notice any price gouging at all on stuff I checked out. They carry some of the higher end accessory brands, including Dupont, if you're into those guys. Nice side lounge with plenty of TV's and nice chairs to sit in. Don't need to be a member or anything, but at least buy a cigar from them before you try to plop down and smoke. Couple things I noticed one of which I have a hard time figuring out...there are no prices on the cigars, so when you go out to pay, if they don't have that one memorized, then they have to run into the humidor to get the price. Way inefficient, especially if there are several people in line. Now, as I found out later from someone, they usually asks/expect people to grab note paper and write down the prices of their purchases. Okay...but first of all, this only works IF you tell your customers to do this, which no one did...and still, why are you asking the customer to do work for you? Nit picky maybe, but still, I'm spending money here, not getting paid, YOU need to be doing the work, not me. Get a price gun or a POS system already. I've never been any other place, anywhere, that did this. Kinda bizarre. Other thing was, there's nothing to drink for sale. It would be nice to have a reach in with some soda's available. If you plan on sitting and smoking, hit up the C store before you come by, as there is nothing in their center to get anything to drink. read more
