I was referred to Dr. Surget V. Cox at The Skin Surgery Centre in Mandeville for Mohs surgery to remove a basal cell carcinoma from the tip of my nose. I cannot yet comment on my final cosmetic outcome because I am still healing. However, I can comment on my experience as a patient. Immediately before surgery, I asked Dr. Cox how many Mohs surgeries like mine she had performed. She turned her back and replied, "You're my first." she may have been joking, but when a patient is about to undergo surgery on the center of their face, that kind of sarcasm is not reassuring. It was one of the most stressful moments of the entire experience and, to be honest, very disrespectful. They did not let my person who has power of attorney stay with me during surgery. Communication throughout my care left me feeling more like a procedure than a person. I will say that this was not Mohs surgery as it was market and in one slice removed. After surgery I was told a doxycycline prescription would be sent to my pharmacy. My pharmacy never received it. When I returned for suture removal, I waited approximately an hour. I was then taken into an examination room that had not yet been cleaned from the previous patient. There was blood on the instrument tray. The nurse moved the tray into the hallway and cleaned the room while I waited in the corner. The nurse removed my sutures, but Dr. Cox did not examine my surgical site. Because my nose remained red, sore, and extremely sensitive, I later contacted my own dermatologist for guidance. The nursing staff was pleasant and caring. My concerns are not about them. My concerns are with the physician-patient interaction. I never felt the compassion, reassurance, or respect that I believe patients deserve when facing facial surgery. Everyone's experience will be different, but based on my own experience, I would not choose this practice again. read more

When I joined in September I was told I will be seeing Dr. Heather Bronaugh every 6-8 weeks to go over my progress and to expect an average loss of 1pound/week.
