When we made the reservation, we didn't realize that we were going to eat one of the finest meals we've ever had, and when they asked us to follow them through random back rooms to our dinner, we didn't expect to end up in a warm, cozy, and modern Michelin level restaurant. We had the delight of sitting right next to the prep window and watching the magic of this place. There wasn't a single dish that didn't impress, the wine was wonderful, the service was impeccable. The sign on the wall, if it was to be believed, made it seem like they were pouring between 18-20ml. Every other bar I had been to either used a 25ml measuring cup or the rare 35ml measuring cup (THE CEILIDH PLACE in Ullapool stands out in my mind as giving out 35ml), but this guy just poured from the bottle into the glass, and indeed it did seem a very wee dram. :) My wife got a beer though, and that was of a normal size. :) If you don't care about the music, I am sure there are plenty of other bars in Derry that can give you a good wee drink.

As we explored the city and its rich and rocky history, we decided to visit the Bogside neighborhood and boy are we glad we walked into the Bogside Inn! The owner, Shane (sp?) and a good group of his friends occupied the stools and tables while the soccer match and horse races were on. They were so friendly and welcoming to us as we sipped on some delicious pints of Guinness (and some Jameson, too!). Most everyone in the bar took the time to come over and chat with us, ask us about our holiday in Ireland and tell us about Derry. They were a fun, cheery, and boisterous bunch! This was definitely one of our best nights in Ireland. If you're visiting Derry, Bogside Inn is a must!
