If you are looking for some good seasoned hot fresh fish, than this is your place! OMG..... i'm in…read moremy happy place. While visiting Columbia, SC for work, I went out searching for take out food to bring back to my hotel and this place hit the spot. We ordered a trout platter and a flounder platter, all cooked to perfection. The price is right and the owner is a pleasure to do business with....looks like he is running it alone so please remember to tip! The restaurant was extremely clean and there is more parking in the back! CHECK THEM OUT!!!!!

It's only him, and he is taking orders, cooking, packing, and so on. The place is clean and has a few seats for waiting. There's also fish on ice for purchase. I ordered the flounder and shrimp, which were, of course, fried to order. I enjoyed the flavor of the flounder and especially the shrimp. The breading was good, and everything was fried well. The fries were cooked hot, and they are crinkle cut. I enjoyed the food, including the hush puppies, coleslaw, and potato salad. The lunch special comes with tea.  This side of town could use a solid fish spot like this one. The location is kind of tricky. Park on the side of the building. There is a sign, but you do have to be on the lookout for it. It's across from the pet hospital over there.

But my mom and dad warned me, this fish market was run by a VERY eccentric, very ancient woman who would often kick people out just for the slightest misunderstanding. My father-in-law goes with me and we're like 'Okay, just go in, pay for the oysters, get them, get out'. Easy. There are about two dozen buzzards in the parking lot and on her car, just chilling. She called them her babies. The woman is easily 800 years old. The building itself looks like I've been transported to a grungy building in the 80s. The lady greets us with a smile, and that smile fades immediately at my father-in-law. Growling, she tells him; "You take off." and points to his sunglasses. So, he reaches up and takes them off. She smiles again and says, "Now I am safe." She goes on and on about how turtles are smarter than people and she goes down to the pond near her house to talk to them. She apparently has written a few books about them. Then she takes my card. Asks to see my license to confirm the name. Okay, sure. 'James Smith'. She starts calling me Captain James. My father-in-law texts me despite standing right next to me; "Are we being punk'd???" She keeps talking for 25 minutes and does not bring us the oysters. Eventually she asks what I do for a living. I tell her I'm a youth pastor. She says "Ah, I knew you were a man of influence. You remind me of Jim Jones. You know Jim Jones? Good man, good-looking too. Very influential. You are good looking too." She finally waves for us to follow her into the back. Jim Jones. As in the cult leader, Jim Jones. As in Jonestown, the murderer and awful human being who killed an entire town of people, Jim Jones. This was not the compliment she thought it was. My father-and-law and I look at each other, horrified and stunned. This didn't feel real. She leads us into the freezer in the back. There were wet tables and unattended knives everywhere. It looks like it has not been cleaned nor repaired in decades. She tells me to go in and grab the box of oysters. My father-in-law stays outside because he is legitimately afraid that she was going to lock us in. We grab the box of oysters. She continues to talk. Tells me to keep changing lives, just like Jim Jones. We leave. My father-in-law and I do not say a word for about 5 miles, until he just says, "Holy shit." Now the place is closed and I'm very confident it is haunted.
