By the time everyone settled onto their mats, Anna asked: "Is there anything you'd like to focus on today?" One yogi answered without hesitation. "Release." The whole room smiled. Same. One collective Om. A few Sun Salutations. Then we were off. The Guide: Anna Murray * Express 45 Anna guided us through a few Sun Salutations before gradually stepping back and letting us move through several on our own. There was no stopping. One posture became the next. One breath became the next. Before I knew it... we were halfway through. Once the body was warm, the invitations began. Side Angle. Half Bind. Full Bind. Bird of Paradise. You could stay exactly where you were... or keep opening. The music carried everything forward. Beach House. Rhye. ODESZA. Gregory Alan Isakov. Then, almost unfairly... it was time to come down. Forty-five minutes. Gone. At the end of class, Anna invited us to bask in our wholeness, our worthiness, the steadiness of our being, and then encouraged us to carry that presence into the rest of our day. Brony free weight users frown upon this this and close the spin class door which we then have to open again. Its the circle of life. Door open. Door close. Door open. Door close. Rinse. Wash. Repeat. ::: SECOND FLOOR ::: Second floor is cardio. Ample treadmills, stair steppers, etc. just lots of aerobic equipment including an female users only room as gawker prophylaxis. ::: THIRD FLOOR ::: Third floor is where the magic happens for me-- large fitness room with tremendous views of the mountains. Sign ups required for all fit classes during winter season. Can reserve a spot up to 24 hrs ahead. They will wait list prior to full classes-- a warm-up for Sundance, I suppose. Most notably for me Butts&Guts (and sometimes Buns&Guns). Put these names on the merch and I will bite-- just adore the fun, catchy, edgy names. Generically shorthand the classes as'BeeGees' for short. Which also perfectly captures the sentiment of pushing through the wall to keep doing 'burpies' and other variations on push-ups until you cannot breath anymore because all your classmates are encouraging each other: Feel the city breakin' and everybody shakin', And we're stayin' alive, stayin' alive. Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive, stayin' alive. Exercising as part of a team collective mentality really allows you to push yourself without suffering-- you just zone out and keep working hard. Also on third floor- changing rooms with lockers and showers. Very clean and well-kept. Lots of people get ready there before leaving to divert fractions of pennies at Initech after they workout. Like many rooms of the original Apple IIe's Castle Wolfenstein, I have never made it past the lock code box on door so as to witness the splendor. It's VIPs eyes only. What is this Bosu you ask? Cue infomercial here: Bosu is marketed as a balance trainer but it is much, much more. Bosu is an alien UFO saucer disc thingy that is 26 inches in diameter and looks like a big blue egg yolk. The name 'Bosu' is an acronym: Both Sides Utilized. You stand on it and try to keep your balance while following instructor-led exercises as it keeps wobbling ever so slightly. This Bosu wobble is the special sauce-- an element of instability that creates an added layer of complexity and challenge during the exercises making it so much fun! One happy, buzzy glow with a side of Bosu wobble, please!

I have been practicing at Lifted Life since August. I am a very novice yoga practitioner and every…read moreinstructor has been very patient with me. I'd consider myself quite inflexible from my hips down, but I've never felt "less than" or singled out. On the contrary, Julz, Traci, Deb, and Sue have all been very encouraging of using blocks, bolsters, straps, and modifications so I can still practice the poses they are signaling. I've found yoga is just as much about a journey of self/mindfulness as it is a journey of the physical body. Lifted Life emphasizes this whole approach to yoga - the mental, the spiritual, and the physical. They are good about sharing yoga traditions and teachings without being super "hippie" - I'm trying to say I've never felt uncomfortable, feeling forced to feel or believe one thing or another. This is a very peaceful studio. There are some instructors that are more "power yoga" type than others, but I've found the class descriptions to be very helpful and accurate in finding the class that suits my mood or physical needs/limitations. There are yoga mats to rent. They have lots of bolsters, blocks, and straps so you don't have to bring your own. They also have yoga related books, oils, mats, and other things to purchase in the lobby area. I've found all the instructors take past or current injuries or health conditions seriously. You can often hear the instructor suggesting a modification or sharing a reminder to an individual class member based on a fused spine, a hip injury, scoliosis, growing flexibility, and, of course, pregnancy. They offer only a limited number of evening classes at this time, but that's because evening classes were poorly attended. (I know this firsthand because I love the evening classes.) Julz's evening Light I class is the perfect way to unwind for the day and get ready for bed. Traci's Light I classes are perfect for those of us looking to grow our flexibility and/or strength or who need to practice functional movements. (She has us do chair yoga sometimes which, I'm surprised to find, I actually like every now and again.) Sue's evening Mixed is a great flow class. I've worked with Traci the most and she is a great instructor for any level yoga. Julz is also fantastic. Both give great verbal cues and have extensive knowledge on how to practice yoga for your body in that moment. I'm really grateful I've found Lifted Life. It's been an integral part of my physical and mental health journey this year. I highly recommend it. I have spinal stenosis, seven fused vertibraes, a slight tear in my rotator cuff and a herniated disc. I did Yoga for a while but hurt my neck and have been terrified to go back. I am pretty fit from all the cardio I do, but my core, and overall balance and tone need a lot of help. I did some research and found Alison. I told her about all my health issues, and she is very diligent about taking me through the exercises that will help to strengthen me. Pilates is different from anything I've ever done before, there is a little bit of a physical therapy aspect to the workouts I'm doing, they seem pretty simple, but they are challenging!!!
