Have you ever stopped into a store "just because?"…read more That's pretty much what triggered a recent visit to Butler-Tarkington's Lunch Money Boutique, one of the more recent additions to this perfectly lovely area that specializes in luxury children's clothing from newborn to size 16. Lunch Money Boutique emphasizes sustainable fashion for the kiddos (Am I the only one who wrestles with whether to spell it as kiddos or kiddoes?). Lunch Money is located next to Byrne's Grilled Pizza. I really do love this corner, though it's definitely more of a premium corner in terms of shopping. Lunch Money? The styles are adorable (and yes, leaning toward "luxury"). The employees are friendly. The store itself is nicely designed and a genuinely pleasing atmosphere. I'm not sure what it says about me that these newborns have better fashion sense than I do, but if their parents shop here it's definitely true. For those with mobility issues, entering from the back is your best option in terms of accessibility. There is a step up-front. It's my one major downer for this entire neighborhood - it's just not particularly wheelchair friendly. I didn't end up buying anything on this visit, though I undoubtedly would. If you're looking for more premium options and care about sustainability, I'd definitely recommend a visit here. As an added plus, this is also the same building as Kids Ink. While I'm getting old enough that most of my friends don't have young children, on those occasions when I am looking for options for the children in my life I won't hesitate to return here.

Since it has opened I have stopped in a few times looking for gifts or something fun for one of my toddlers to wear. My favorite purchase is a UFO hair claw clip. After you do some shopping you might as well continue down the street for kid books at Kids Ink and pizza at Byrnes. Illinois Street has the best shops for a nice little afternoon in Indy.

This store is a little fancy, but not overly so. It's very carefully curated, and the color palate is beige-taupe-oatmeal-neutral toned. It's like if Restoration Hardware created a baby store. If you're looking for neutral baby clothes, Hey Little Diddle is your place. The prices are a little too rich for my blood, as I prefer outfitting babies and toddlers in hand-me-downs that they can throw up on, fall down in, get muddy and messy, and also don't cost $125. The clothing here is adorable, though, and you won't find outfits like these anywhere else in the area. I wasn't looking for baby clothes, but more like toys or trinkets. They do have a few, but not a huge selection. I would visit this store for clothing mostly.

This store is not a local mom-and-pop shop, but it's worth mentioning on here because the clothing is so well made and so much nicer than almost anything else you'll find around. It's actually part of the Gymboree Company, but these clothes seem to be a step up from even that. They are more "boutique" in style, I think, and the prices reflect that. Be ready to spend a pretty, shiny penny on anything you get here. But it's worth it. Especially if you're shopping for a new baby. These clothes are so delicate and precious, almost as much as the baby that will be wearing them.

It's surprising how difficult it is to find older boys' pajama pants. Anyway, I thought to try Once Upon a Child, and they had a plethora of pajama pants to choose from. It was a relief. I grabbed three pairs of pants for under $20, too! The service was great: fast and friendly. The aisles were organized and the store was clean. I will definitely be back to shop again!

This little store can easily cost me $$$ because I want to get one of everything. I also really enjoy their active social media presence and seeing all the new products come in. Very nicely curated and styled so even though it's a small space, it seems to pack a lot in there and the displays are constantly changing. Only complaints? Since it's a small boutique, the sizes I need are often sold out, especially if I'm trying to get my boys to match so I can't always find the right item in the right size. And second, I've sadly noticed the quality isn't as good as some of their Target and Gap standards. Several pieces that cost more than my clothes are already losing threads after one wash or starting to pill. So I feel I end up shopping here to support local and enjoy the cute trends, but not necessarily to find items that will last all season or be passed down.

The two stars for me comes with a mixture of ridiculously high prices and not so friendly service. The prices are a little outrageous, and maybe that's just because I'm not some super wealthy individual. But I can't justify spending over $100 on a shirt for my 2 or 6 year old nieces. Then comes the service. Everytime I come in to look around I'm faced with two scenarios: 1. They think I'm stealing and hound me like a hawk. 2. They treat me like there's no way I could afford anything in their store, so I become leper-zoned. It really ruins the experience for me, making it difficult to ever want to actually splurge on anything they sell there.
