I've had a pretty horrible experience with the shine shop. I came in to cancel my membership and I got convinced to go on a retention plan for a reduced price, which ended up taking 20 minutes because the clerk couldn't figure out how to do it. After all the time that I was waiting I left and a few days later got charged almost $45 when it should've been $10. I called in multiple times after opening, got sent to voicemail several times. I then got through a couple times and was put on hold for several minutes even though I was the first collar in line. I came in in the following evening and was told that I had to come in person between the hours of 7 AM and 3 PM to get my refund which caused me to have to call out of work. In addition to all of that every single time that I come, I ask for touchless, but somebody in the wash area typically messes up and I get the brushes on my car. I have scratches on my windshield. All in all after talking with the manager and talking with the employee from the last time, not once did I get an apology. Don't fall for there "Free Carwash" advertisement. They won't take no for an answer and when they offer you the free month of service, they will ask for your credit card to hold it so they can have it in their system where they promise you "there will be no charge towards your card" and they charge your card. Then they charge you 45+ dollars for the premium membership. This happened to me and even though I had the membership, I didn't go anywhere near that scamming joke of a carwash. read more

Another plus for the growing Waukee area is a recently, opened car wash that has a nice marketing campaign with nice big signage of how to proceed into the car wash as well as a courteous staff to assist you upon entrance-- especially if you just want the one time usage -- this is super. By far the best car wash yet. It actually got my SUV clean clean. No streaks and no bug residue. They truly got everything off. The colors are great and entertaining for little ones if you got them. It's a little far from my house but worth the drive. Everyone was friendly and the process was seamless. I wish there was one closer to downtown Des Moines because I can definitely see myself returning and taking advantage of the monthly pass plus free vacuum service because my car usually needs it. I showed a friend how clean my car was after and since she lives in Waukee, she bought a membership for her and her husband, which was cool. With a monthly membership, you just roll right in and go straight into the car wash because they give you a sticker that is automatically scanned so you don't have to stop and check in. They have free vacuuming at the exit and one hose was super strong and the other one was not. Not a problem since the strong one stretched and was able to reach every nook and cranny of my car. Overall, a positive experience, decent prices and friendly staff so I am looking forward to going back and keeping my car looking fresh. read more

Do not sign up for a membership! The Shine Shop makes it incredibly hard to cancel your membership though are deceitful about this upfront. They stated it's as easy as using a QR code, only to find that the QR code is not valid for cancellation and you need to call in. Fine, we call in multiple times only to never get a response across multiple days and multiples times. My husband finally had to physically drive there to cancel, only for them to state that it's "too late" and we would be charged for the next month, even though the cycle wouldn't start over for another week. We asked if we could then be reimbursed as we have been trying to cancel for some time, to no avail, and they stated they couldn't help us. Terrible customer service! read more

TL;DR--Their "free car wash" is an attempt to abusively bully you into signing up for a membership. They will not accept "no" as an answer and will not give you the free car wash. Other reviews say it's impossible to cancel a membership and I 100% believe that based on how aggressive they were on the sign-up side. Our experience: They had a person out front holding a sign that said "Free Car Wash" so we pulled in. We knew they'd use the opportunity to sell us a membership, but we had no idea how PUSHY they'd be. After one guy couldn't convince us to sign up on the spot he said they'd need to check our license plate in their system to make sure it was our first time ever visiting so he went inside. But a different attendant came out with a placard to "explain the washes". When we said the other guy already did that and was checking our license plate he said "I have to do this too". He would not take no for an answer. After my wife, who was driving, explained that we live on the other side of town and don't pass through this way often and _still_ had to say no several more times she looked at me as if to say "save me from this jerk". I said "We are not signing up for a membership today." He again asked "what's holding you back?", just as he had already done several times and as the first attendant had done. They are apparently ignorant of how such pushy tactics make people LESS likely to give you money. I said "It's a hard no." He repeated his question yet again and I said "it's a hard no." He repeated it yet again and I told him "open the gate, we are leaving." He did not open the gate and asked the question AGAIN. I again said to open the gate as we were leaving and we drove off without the free car wash. I do not believe they'll actually give you a free car wash given the number of times and how strongly we had to say no to their sales attempts. Even after in-person cancellation they continue to charge my credit card in following months. $42.97 for a one time wash is too much! This is the most high tech car wash that I have ever been to. There is a barcode sticker that you put in your window that is automatically scanned when you pull up to the kiosk. Once you are inside the carwash, it is like a rainbow of colors. When you get out, it is mostly dried off and then pull around the corner to the vacuums. Voila! The shine shop person stands out there on University with the long arrow twirling it around saying free car wash. I pull into the shine shop to get my free car wash and the kid working there says but first let me try to sell you one of these other packages. He said for $9.99 you can get car washes for the rest of the month. I was down with that price so I said okay. I use my car washes for the rest of March. Come beginning of April there was a $41 charge to my account. It was from the shine shop. Evidently I had signed up for a 6-month package by accepting that original 999 deal that was supposed to be my free car wash. So I called the shine shop to find out why they took $41 out of my account. The guy working there said that only a salesperson could fix that. He did say however since I was upset he would give me $32 back which made it $9.99 for this month again. He said I had to sign up for the next 3 months at $9.99 in order to get that deal for this month otherwise they were going to stick with the $41 charge to my account. So my original free car wash ended up costing me $50.... I told the guy on the phone they are practicing business in a deceitful way. Tricking people into signing up for this package that they didn't disclose in the beginning.... I told them had I known I was signing up for a monthly deal that I would have went to Tommy's car wash because it is much cheaper..... The kid on the phone said I'm sorry ma'am that's just business... Also I have to call them back in 3 months...one week before my renewal date in order to cancel this otherwise they will charge me another $41. read more

Tire Shine in Waukee scratched and damaged my vehicle! I spoke with the manager Mario and they tried to place blame on me. Which was very unprofessional, he also stated his cameras could not go and review if the damages did occur and he stated tthe camera's were foggy/not working properly. Let's just say I will not be going back and I will be canceling my membership asap! I will also not recommend this place to anyone else. I am going to let my friends and associate's who signed up because of me know my experience and how I was treated along with the malfunctioning of their equipment. I will be cancelling my membership asap. I am also going to post this on my social medial and contact BBB. The way I was treated even over the phone and how they tried to defame my character is not right at all! Even the young man that worked there tried to side with Mario and say it looked like someone scratched my car with key's lol.
