Came across this local social club while in town on a recent trip through the area. Was greeted by the bartender walking in and opted to sit outside in the shade on the afternoon of my visit. I took a menu with me and was told a server would be out. That never happened so after about ten minutes or so I walked back inside to order a cold one and a little food. The short bar menu, after giving it a once over Mac and cheese with bacon and an order of onion rings. Along with a tap belgium. I placed my order at the bar and got my cold brew and headed back out to my warm shady spot. A short while later my macncheese and rings appeared, both were decent portions and served their purpose the late afternoon of my visit. Nothing fancy but good. The food met my needs, the brew though not my first choice good, and the service unexistent outside. All in all it served its purpose for my afternoon break from the road. 3 Stars 00990 read more

Cafeteria food best describes the burgers we had - frozen patties with some topping thrown on, soggy fries that looked the bottom of the bag. Our server was very sweet but missed so many of the basics ie we had to ask for silverware and napkins after the food arrived, had to ask for ketchup, and forgot about sauce on the side. Our bartender was amazing funny and helpful. Everything else was horrible. Well there wasn't anything else. No food except 3 things. So weird. How are they still open. Was hungry but less than 3 options to choose from and those took 45 min and were missing key ingredients. Sad. read more

I would love to leave a review for The shack. But it's always closed when I drive by. And when I try to call the phone number isn't working. It says that it has not been set up to leave a message. So when you're close during the hours that you say you're open that's bad. And especially bad when you don't even have an answering machine? Get your act together or close up all together. read more

The food was excellent. We had chicken wings, chicken tacos, onion rings and loaded potatoes. Everything was delicious. The service was great. We have been here 3 times and the food and service was consistent. We are going back again tonight. read more

Kitchen had no food to serve except several items such as 3 ea. 1/6 of a pound patties. Iceberg lettuce for a caesar salad with no caesar dressing. Mac and cheese with no mac. Hands down, the best Patty Melt in Redding! I've been on the hunt for a solid Patty Melt in town for a while now, and The Shack absolutely nails it. The burger is juicy without being greasy, and the bread is perfectly toasted every time. It hits all the right notes! My friend is a huge fan of their Prime Rib Dip--he swears by it. The sandwich is always piled high with tender, flavorful slices of prime rib. The staff here are consistently friendly, and the service is reliable and fast. As for pricing, it's right in line with other local spots, but unlike some places where food and service can be hit or miss, The Shack delivers every time. Awful. Horrible!!! Met friends there. First thing is their outdoor space was a mess. People smoking cigars. ( in California???). Violation I would say. Smelled awful as soon as we walked up. To the door. Because of the cigars and groups outside smoking we decided to eat inside. No one greeted us. Some bikers at the bar. Just not professional at all. When our friends arrived we had to search where to go. Nothing posted to wait to be seated or seat yourself. So that was just the beginning. Total nightmare. Drinks were so nasty we couldn't drink them. Ordering was total confusion. Waitress was sweet but not trained at all. And had no one helping her. Felt bad for her so left her a decent tip. One couples food arrived 15 minutes later than the others. And it was a salad?? So: 1. Smoking in and around a restaurant is unacceptable and against California codes 2. Front entrance has no greeting or management Bar is too busy with local bikers sitting around and tasting dishes. 3. Lack of manager. None to be see. New waitress (2days) had no guidance. 4. Food expensive and happy hour menu is all the same. Bottom line this place won't last. A lot of local staff(?) and bikers mingling around. I would not advise anyone who really wants a good place to relax and enjoy not to go here. Huge disappointment. My worse dining experience ever. read more

Terrible service. One waitress for the whole building AND bar. Food was gross. Old brown fries. Mac & cheese had onion powder in it. Patty melt was on sourdough bread instead of rye. Simply, I miss Clearie's. My bartender Sam was fine, no issues there. Very friendly. But it seemed like he was the only employee there aside from the cooks. So he had to spread himself too thin. False advertising! Their website show delicious vegetarian dishes (specifically the Mediterranean platter), which not one is on their menu. I had fried chicken platter that was overcooked in old dirty grease. Chicken was cardboard dry. Mashed potatoes were gray and watery. More and more I think about it I ordered the surf and turf over $50 I a rubber steak and two shrimp. That was it and my husband ordered the same thing and got nothing but fat on his steak. I think they need to reevaluate what a surf and turf is. I don't recommend the story to anybody unless you wanna be sick the next day. read more

Well it's took me awhile to think about this. The bar food was good, wing mushrooms, and such. When it came to the Shacksmash burger that I ordered it was one of the worst things I've ever eaten. I don't know how you could get a burger wrong but they did. Now I love hamburgers more than steaks. But this was akin to gas station burger. My friend's steak sandwich was literally a small over cooked breakfast steak on a single slice of bread and nothing else. I remember going to the shack as a kid and the food was great, but not now. The bar snacks were good but the rest was horrible. Sorry I'm a local and I won't be going back at least for food. I'd should have walked across the street to Taco Bell to eat. I do want to say the service was excellent. Just the food is horrible. read more

The shack is a great place to come and hang out, have a drink and enjoy some very well prepared and tasty food. Lots of options on the menu and a very friendly environment. And I just had what might be the best Manhattan I've had ever right here at the shack in Redding. if you're in the area or you live here, don't miss it. Came from chico with my friends for them to try a new place, waitresses were amazing and so helpful. The owners were very kind, welcoming, and funny guys. The drinks had very generous portions and were super yummy! Highly recommend the iceberg and marg !! Great small town vibe yet classy in every way. The burgers fries and margaritas are AMAZING. I keep meaning to try more of the menu but the sweet and spicy burger calls my name every time- the candied jalapeños they use on that thing practically deserve to be their own dish. Only thing good was the new waitress was at least trying. I remember it being good as a kid, but that chicken was one of the worst things I have ever put in my mouth. So dry and flavorless.
