I subscribe to the Seattle Times in order to get local news and sports. The international, national and regional news comes mostly from syndication which I can understand, The economy being what it is in a small independent paper can only afford so many reporters. However, its Subscription rate of two hundred and twenty five dollars for thirteen weeks is in my opinion, very over-priced, not only that, If you put a vacation hold of less than thirty one days, you cannot get credit for papers not received. I recently had a hold for twenty eight days and requested my credit and was told that it did not make the thirty one day threshold. So I felt that their policy is a bit dishonest and misplaced. There has never been a contract or a policy review that explains this to subscribers, and the only way to find out is through the experience of being denied the credit. I will continue to subscribe to the Times, but I am a bit disheartened by their policy that seems discouraging, if not dishonest, to long time subscribers like myself. After a very Long conversation on the phone, I was eventually given a courtesy credit for the Twenty eight days that I Missed. I will be gone for 3 weeks this month, But I will be sure to put a hold of at least thirty one days so I can get the appropriate credit without having to argue about it.. read more

What has happened to the Seattle Times. This week the paper has been 16 pages. The sports section is 3 with no baseball box scores or standings. They say it is due to a "paper shortage". If that is always the case, why not reduce the ads and size of your editorial section. As a subscriber for over 35 years, I will not be renewing unless the content improves real soon. read more

The journalism is fine, but the subscription service is BAD. Beware of deceptive offers on the website and on the phone. I finally cancelled completely because I didn't want the stress of having to keep track of them not doing what they said they would do. The Seattle Times content is reasonable but all in all did not quite meet my expectations. But what I really wanted to stress is that the ST makes it very easy to subscribe online with a click or two and the trial subscription plans seem decent....right up until when you elect to cancel. Which can only be done by phone. At which time you will eventually be connected to a (probably) nice person who has been very, very well schooled to prevent you from cancelling. Like more or less won't take no for an answer and no matter how many times you say.....NO...I don't want to take advantage of that very special offer I just want to ducking cancel the thing. Apparently the Times has been billing my elderly mother for years and she hasn't gotten a paper. Like almost 10 years.

It's no wonder local newspapers are in trouble, with the way that the Seattle Times does business. I've been a subscriber for over 40 years - that's right, 40 years - and a few months ago changed to a digital only subscription. With the print subscription, you paid every 3 three months. What I was not told was that with the digital subscription you needed to be on auto pay for a monthly payment. As a result, when my three month payment had been used up, my account was cancelled. No email or other notice that the funds needed to be put on auto pay, just an immediate cancellation of my subscription. So, this is how they treat a decades-long customer. No wonder they are in trouble. I suspect this lack of attention to customer service has cost them other subscribers. read more

I will be shocked if I actually get an email confirming my cancellation and refund. Horrible customer service. I wish companies would be accountable. I've been getting the Seattle Times daily for the last 15 years and have been very please with the local and national news coverage. I always enjoy the Pacific Northwest Magazine on Sundays and of course the Comics! If weather prevents delivery I'm offered next day delivery or a credit for that day. Had the paper delivered in Tacoma, they neglected to tell me that Saturday papers aren't delivered until Sunday. They refuse to put the paper on my porch. Had the area manager tell me they would deliver to porch and never did. Constantly missed deliveries. Don't bother, especially if you're in Tacoma. read more

Been a subscriber for over 30 years and finally realized I've been overcharged. - much more than their current advertised subscription pay. My fault for not keeping an eye out and just went on autopay. Then I went onto BBB and yelp and found out their ratings!! Call to cancel and told I signed a contract which the rep explicitly told us no obligation and the document I signed had no contractual obligations. We spent 6 weeks trying to get a delivery. Called, emailed, called again, emailed again. No deliveries ever started. And then it was a nightmare to try and cancel the service. They intentionally make it as difficult as possible the cancel. The media itself often portrays the public as the reason print media is failing. Perhaps they should send their corporate board to a standard MBA program to learn about customer service and some fundamentals of running a successful business. Which they will quickly learn involves the little things like providing your customers with the product they pay for and providing functioning customer service. read more

For years I have received the Seattle Times delievery consistently. If there were a a problem, I'd call customer service and the problem was taken care of immediately. What Happened?! I've read the other complaints and it's the same thing I'm going through. One star is one too many for this ONCE GREAT news paper. The founders would be sick that the current owners could care less about Customer Service. We have taken this paper for decades which we pay promptly for delivery service, so for the last month we have had to call every day because NO PAPER! We call their CUSTOMER NO SERVICE and the CUSTOMER NO SERVICE idiots could care less and say MAYBE in 3 hours so we call after 3 hours get the same idiot and sometimes hang up on us. I only subscribe to the Sunday delivery, and in most cases I either don't receive my paper or it comes really late, and when I speak to someone, they always assure me that my paper will be delivered, and it never does. read more

Until recently I had the same carrier for years. He delivered about 4:30 am and always put the paper inside my storm door. Unfortunately, he no longer is my delivery person. The replacement couple deliver the paper around 8 am. This morning, it was almost 10:00. I pay the Seattle Times their outrageous subscription costs because I believe in a local paper. It doesn't matter to me if their editorial opinion is slanted; I support local news in addition to what I get online. I can form my own opinions. But I can't seem to get the paper I support in a timely fashion each morning. It's frustrating. read more

Content is good but billing is a mess. I used a Groupon for six months of subcription and assumed the service would just cancel itself automatilly when the time comes. Just today I received a letter from the debt collector requesting to collect my account balance. Not sure why this even happened but just wanted to get it over with. I have had this paper every day for decades. Now I rarely get it, most times every other day whenever the postman comes by. Then Sunday is with a carrier, in a different box. These guys just don't care anymore ! They even put stickers over the main news on the front page. They are IDIOTS (and that is being kind) all they are good for is lighting the fire in the fireplace. The paper itself is good enough. Reporting is sufficient. Like other folks I really don't see why a phone call is necessary to cancel a newspaper subscription. After I bite the bullet and call them to cancel, I have been hounded by no less than 5 calls to try to "get me back". read more

They can't seem to keep a paper carrier in our area (lake stevens) and now they are mailing our paper and not getting that consistanly either. If you're looking to get familiar with the local flavor of the community, you can't beat local journalism. Their business section is solid as well as their reporting on local culture. But, alas, here it comes, yep I find them pretty biased. Would love to see different perspectives and a more nuanced approach that is psychologically distanced from any given story being reported. read more

The writing and coverage are great! However, sadly, as others here have mentioned, the billing department has serious problems. I cancelled online (when they had that option) and they offered me a deal, which I took, but they kept charging me the same amount. I emailed to cancel, which they confirmed by email, but they kept billing me. I'm not sure how this was possible because my credit card was expired, but they somehow got the new card expiration date and billed me anyway. Finally, after three more phone calls, they told me that my subscription is canceled, but I'll believe it when I see it. I apologize to the journalists and other hard working, honest people at the ST for this review, but do encourage you to take the feedback you see here on Yelp to your management in order to save the integrity of your paper. read more

I ordered the Sunday for delivery on September 3rd and still have not received it called them every week to find out why I never got it every week told something different now they tell me that they have no one to deliver it so they mailed it to me for a Tuesday not Sunday bull I only wanted it for Sunday not for Tuesday still giving me the run around and won't give me a refund like I asked for if I was you I would not order it from them better off going to the store for your Sunday paper if you do order it all I can say is good luck with that one read more

Though my profile says SF, I've been in North Bend WA for over 20 years. For the first 18, the paper was delivered like clockwork, the last 2 years like the 3 Stooges were in charge. Call and you get an extra day, big deal, I want my F-Sat-Sun paper just like was stated in my contract. I wonder if both the carrier and the delivery supervisor have both been quiet quitting. I'm torn. There are a few things they do which are useful for society, such as keep track of City politics and some local investigative journalism. I'm not so naive as to think they can do that without people paying for their content -- remember, for Google and other "free" internet, *you're* the product (selling your data and browsing habits and email contents etc is what makes them their money). They're not quite as bad as KUOW in the "all racial/sexual identity stories all the time", but they're following that path. They're apparently desperate for money, which seems to be why they charge me more than the New York Times (!), and have ridiculous, intrusive ads even for paying subscribers. They don't seem to understand web design, which makes it hard to find articles and may account for my run-in on the seattletimes.com web site with scummy sites like lijit.com . My advice - hold your nose and: 1) Pay as little as possible to the Seattle Times for a digital subscription, 2) Don't use their app -- stick to the seattletimes.com website and install the free EFF "Privacy Badger" extension on your browser. Using Privacy Badger, be sure to block any crwdcntrl.net, doubleclick.net, lijit.com, nr-data.net, teads.tv and outbrain.com websites. Hopefully, that will get rid of most of the bad stuff. read more

While we truly enjoy reading the Seattle Times newspaper, they fail in the area of home delivery. We can go days and even weeks, with no home delivery. When calling to complain we were told that we can always access the paper online. Well the service we're paying for is home delivery AND online access, not "or" online access. Avoid! This place not only writes the most delusional articles, but actually ask you to pay to read them online! Only place that asks you to do that. Sad thing is, the articles are generally garage. They act like fair weather fans when it comes to the Seahawks, and being a huge Hawks fan, find them to be embarrassing and very get through a whole article that they write...even the questions they ask at the press conference are crazy and have that, "why did you ask that" feeling. The Seattle Times has the worst customer Service of any business I've had the misfortune of dealing with. I signed on and paid for a years daily service ($nice rate $150 or so /year). After 6 weeks we decided that we didn't read the weekday papers and asked to change to the weekend or Sunday only delivery. We were told the cost to change would be an additional $300 for the year. I talked with a lady who said she was a supervisor and she used the exact same talking points right down to missing the Fred Meyer ad by making the change and she refused to change my subscription without additional payment. We decided we would finish our year but never subscribe again. With such strange unfriendly business practices it's no wonder that print journalism is dying. read more

Terrible customer service and unreliable delivery. I've received maybe 5 papers in 2 months, and most arrived when I had a scheduled vacation. I called 5 times and multiple emails sent and they are refusing to refund me saying I didn't call enough! My dad bought it for me and it's very sad to see these wrong things happening in the world and no one cares about doing what's right. They just want your money. No response to any of my emails and the last "supervisor" I talked to on the phone yelled at me and interrupted while I talked, intentionally to provoke me. So unprofessional. I would not recommended anyone signup, sadly. Find a more honest newspaper and company to support. read more
