Surrounded by a veritable plethora of takeaways on the Shirley stretch of the Stratford Road, The Sea Spray is surprisingly one of the few dedicated fish and chip shops in an area where the Chinese and Indian are kings. Firstly, it's worth noting that it's nice to see a fish shop going a bit off the beaten track when it comes to a name, and it was this evocative name that drew me in in the first place. Whilst predominantly a takeaway, it does have a few tables inside and a couple of picnic benches outside to sit at, so you can either take your food or eat in. It isn't the cheapest fish and chip shop I've seen in the city, but I suppose that's not really a surprise given the lack of competition that it has to contend with, with a mini fish and chips costing £3. The food is good, not the best I've had in Birmingham (that'd be the Dolphin in Selly Oak), but by no means the worst. read more
