It's always a trip down memory lane shopping at this long time Mountain Brook staple. Once in…read moreMountain Brook Village, its newer home is in Crestline Village. They still sell anything you could possibly want or need: giftware, hostess and entertaining items, collegiant gear, limited baby clothes, sorority gear, the same old school candy that I bought here as a child, and so much more! I will return to this beloved little store that so beautifully has served this community for many many years!

Have you ever obsessed over something until it just drives you bonkers? Well, I do! My latest…read moreobsession is cellophane gift bags sized 14.75 inches tall x 7 inches wide x 4 inches deep. Iridescent or clear - either "finish" is excellent. Okay, one would think a big box craft store (you know Hobby Lobby, Michael's) or even Party City would have these, right? ...nope. Moving along, certainly Amazon has them - they have *every*thing! ...nope. After searching for more than a month, I texted my long time best friend who lives in B'ham because she was my inspiration for this obsession. Here's the deal: (per Karen's M.O.) you get this size bag, put 1-2 pieces of tissue paper inside, add any given gift (well almost any), tie it with a bow and voila! You have an all purpose, all occasion gift wrap solution!!!! BF Karen turned me on to Smith Variety, where she sources her magical bags. (Thanks Karen!) Although they do not have a web site, they are so quick to respond to Facebook messages, it's really more convenient than shopping online or in store (although I do plan to visit in person sometime!) The owner Brad (and his wife, I believe her name is Amy) helped me find a slightly larger clear cello bag and I ordered 2 dozen and asked them to please ship. They promised to do so a week ago Monday. A few days passed and I hadn't received them and I FB messaged them again and Brad provided the FedEx tracking # and estimated delivery date. Long story short, FedEx delivered the bags ~ 3 days past the promised delivery date, and in the interim, Brad priority USPSd me a second set of bags, which I offered to pay for. He refused to charge me for them and now I can enjoy effortless wrapping and move on to my next obsession! Thanks, Brad, Amy, and Smith's Variety for your kindness and for helping me simplify my (dreaded) gift wrapping chore -- and I wish you all a very Merry Christmas!

What a great place! I live out of state and we don't have a local art supply like this place…read more Randy was super helpful with my pottery glaze purchase, answering questions and making suggestions. He even caught that I was about to purchase glaze that was not a good fit for my needs. He helped me choose alternative glazes that fit my need and saved me $20 plus as the alternate glazes were less expensive! Randy took a lot of time answering my questions about Stroke and Coat, and with his help I decided this product did not fit my needs (although lots of my potter friends praise Stoke n coat). Alabama Art has a great selection of glazes. This was my 3rd trip and I will definitely be back. It was the most fun!!

Just so we are on the same page, I can't do justice to a stick figure and I'm being quite serious when I state the family handicaps the pictionary teams by having me on one time and my 7 year old nephew on the other team - Yes - it's really that bad. Now, what does that have to do with Alabama Art Supply - well I guess nothing. But, my wife who is a good artist (Other people have verified this) wanted to stop by here and do some shopping. From an art supplies place, this place is as good as anywhere you will find in the area. They have it all, if you are drawing, painting, need to create a matte for a piece .... prices are good and staff is really nice (even to us non artistic folks). I'd recommend this place if you're looking for some supplies that are a little different as well. Really well organized space and worth a visit if you're in the area.
