This place helped me get through a tough part of my life. There are women here going through the same issues that I have had, so this helped. That was the most healing parts of this shelter. It maintains a safe clean environment and the staff does a good job of handling the difficult personalities that come through any normal shelter. Unfortunately the site supervisor tends to target white women and he even has a "watch list" who mysteriously are the white female residents, who are independent people just trying to get back on their feet. If you do not go to him for problems, have a sense of self or an identity, he will try and get you out. I and another resident left and on our way out, we realized that this guy was targeting us.
My friend told me that she was pulled into the office and told by one of the managers that he is watching her and waiting for her to "screw up", so that he can get her out. The site supervisor also openly professes not to believe in depression or trauma and says that he only functions on "positive energy". Unfortunately that does not fly with the disability rights people or the mayor's office, so I would not be surprised if this incompetent misogynist pig gets canned soon. He passive aggressively tries to make up new rules at random times, so that he can deny residents personal rights. Also he sets up these mock Tuesday game nights, and then mysteriously tells the women that he has "randomly" scheduled a church service afterwards. He then encourages everyone to go, basically telling the women that our homelessness is a moral problem. Jesus would call this guy a PHARISEE.
If you are an independent woman, and do not tolerate male staff who like to bully women, I would avoid this shelter. read more
