The office itself was efficient. The internal systems are a complete mess, and you CAN'T CALL THE toll-free number for help (no one answers). A simple code was missing from my doctor's submission--EDD SAT ON THE FORM FOR 3 WEEKS. I can barely walk and had to travel from Concord to SF because the phones don't take calls. EDD told me the doctor's code on a form was incorrect--is there no way to have mentioned this online? This would have saved me a 4-hour round trip, $14 in parking (with several blocks of hobbling with my walker to the office). I pray that they fix this. I would give them negative stars if possible. I have been calling them for two months now. My daughter went unemployed in March, after filing "correctly" she received a notice that her claim was being reviewed due to an issue with her notating the form that she was in "training" vs in "school"; she has been trying to clear up this issue since MARCH! There are many days where we do not get through at all; on the days we do get a live person; we are told she has to speak to a TIER 3 person to clear the issue. When we are transferred from a TIER 1 to TIER 3 person, 9x's out of 10 we get disconnected, sometimes it is on PURPOSE; the person does not even try to speak to us, they simply transfer without explanation, then we get the dial tone. We were told that the majority of the PHONE reps are TELE-WORKERS....working from home. This is not the issue, the issue is DO YOUR JOB!! I was told that the phone systems on holds the first 100 (ONE HUNDRED) callers in their queue....if you are lucking you could be one of those people. They said there are 1000's of people calling per-day, per-hour.....it is a fricking lottery if you get through! I was able to make it to a representative a few times. I spoke, Jennifer, Kathleen, Justin, George, and a Jacqueline; I'm not sure if this is there real names but they do not give last names. None of these reps have been rude, they simply do not do a good job at assuring MY ISSUE is resolved. NO ONE calls you back if you get disconnected, and NO ONE calls you back after a rep tries to transfer you, NO ONE calls you back after they MAKE A "SO CALLED NOTE" in your claim that you are calling to correct this issue. This is ridiculous, JOE BIDEN should hear about how well this UNEMPLOYEMENT SYSTEM is "NOT" working in the state of California. CALIFORNA - get your act together. I have family in different states (WA, TX, OK) and they did not have this many issues to get unemployment issues resolved. SEEMS the biggest state does not have their ACT together. THIS IS HORRIBLE services....NO REASON why you have to be on hold for FOUR HOURS and not get a rep!! You are paying your employees to send your customers into a black hole of "WAITING".....this is a waste of TAX PAYERS money.......I've placed over a 100 phone calls (even used three separate phones) and spent HOURS on holding to get this issue resolved. I was laid off .. now more than eight weeks later , I have my telephone interview . The questions were so absurd . I'm sure they are not giving me my unemployment. I went for the first time today, and here are my tips. First, create a profile and claim online. This will speed everything up. Don't bother calling. They never answer. There is plenty of free parking around the building, so no need to worry about that. The parking entrances on Oakport are closed. Enter the lot via Hasslet Way. Get there early and line up in the front of the building. I parked and entered the back but didn't see the line. Waiting upstairs put me further behind in the line. I got in line at 7:30, and they open at 8:00. I will get there at 7 the next time if I need to. They hand out numbers and then tell you to go to the office or the waiting room if you are further back in line. The waiting room has 20 or so seats, and the actual office has about 10. You'll need to show you id. They are working with a flawed system and dealing with often upset people. Be nice and you'll be taken care of. read more

I am terrified. Because I had an unemployment claim end at the end of December 2019, online tells me I can't file until that "claim year" ends in June 2020. Although I still qualify due to COVID-19 company shutdown and layoff, I can't call EDD to file over the phone either. I can't call or go to an AJCC job enter as they're all closed. They did not consider people with my circumstance and alter their website accordingly so I could reopen or file a new claim - which I qualify for due to the Coronavirus. This is making my life absolutely terrifying. I've contact the press while I continuously try to get through the SDI disability line, it's my only recourse right now. Before there were many people here to help clients apply or have questions for their unemployment or disability application. Now I can count everyone in one hand. They push people to apply online, by mail and have a few people on the phones. Any kind of help in person is completely verbal since they will not hand anything to you and need to wait for the mail. read more

I filed a claim in June of 2021. I have never received paperwork not payment for the period of time I was unemployed. I have sent a weekly email to request assistance as well as spent hours on hold waiting for help only recently to get yelled and and told I had NOT done my due diligence. Been out of work for 3 months, still haven't gotten any checks and now they denying my claim because it's taken them more than 45 days to process the application that I submitted immediately so therefor it's over the 45 day limit so too late to approve my claim. You can only discover this by physically going into their office btw as their phone system is robomaze with all paths leading to a disconnect. This Review is for Carol with the EDD office in San Francisco. I was laid off temporarily ( as so many of us are) due to the COVID-19 pandemic and was awarded UI benefits from EDD, but they disqualified my weeks because of a technicality. For weeks, I have been calling EDD's customer line without any luck of being able to speak to a rep. After intensely searching the internet for ANY possible way to speak to someone live, I came across the number to the office in San Francisco. Carol is the lady that helped me and instead of passing my call back over to EDD's mainline, she immediately was able to get everything resolved with no waiting time. She even called me back to follow up with my claim! I'm truly in gratitude for her helpful attitude in all of this chaos and appreciate that she took care of my claim and eased my worries. We need more Carol's in the world for sure! :) read more

10 months ago I got a job, severely underpaid, so tried to adjust my benefits. Kicked out of the system, it's 8 months later and still cannot get a human on the phone or get answers to emails. Articles in the SF Chronicle have detailed how people are now paying $20-$80to companies to robocall EDD which further jam the lines. I have 6 #s and all perpetually are 'full', ring for hours, do not return VM, or just disconnect. Hard to fathom the # of people and worse, families/children that fell into poverty or homelessness because an agency after 2.5 years still can't get its sh*t together. Pitiful. read more

This is ONLY for the EDD office. Not the phone line which is still bad. From experience the most effective way to reach EDD is to physically go to the EDD office. You have to wait in line but there are chairs and it's better than waiting time on the phone and no one answering. The people there in the office were helpful and I was able to resolve the issue. read more

Well here we are in 2023 and they still are not answering their phone. You go through all the prompts for it to just automatically hang up in you. Have a claim with all required paperwork submitted for over a month and no payment. No messages in my inbox on my online account to state anything pending or needed. Now I have to go in person and wait in line to talk to someone. I just had a knee replacement but hey I guess they don't care -- I'll stand there all day. What an antiquated online program!! Do they make it so hard that they just wish you disappear and not pay you?!! So so aggravating!!!! read more

Since I know everyone loves this place, I had to post it, no matter what the reason, when you come to this office it is always a wait, always has disgruntled workers behind the counters, even funner counselors that LOVE to help out folks in need, atmosphere alone makes you wanna come back over and over for that award winning smile each rep has. whether it be for unemployment first timers with their initial first time interview or repeat offenders at there end of their first year this place always has fast lines (muhahahaha) here are some of the reasons why you have to visit this spot - in your claim you list you are going to school - in your claim you list you denied work - in your claim they state you need to come in for an interview failure to do so will effect your unemployment - etc there are so many reasons why they make you come in for the most part in California you think this would be all available online, so you can log in check status if not even get assistance online like most other companies I know of other states where everything is either automated or now online sadly California you have to go in and prove that your looking for work, You still have to manually fill out paper work and send it in biweekly! If you try to be proactive and send it a day early like Friday morning you will get a rejection letter stating to send it on a Sunday of the end of the week, then postponing your unemployment check for another week where you will have to wait for them to send you a new form for the prior two weeks fill it out again and mail it in where by then you get your check for the following two weeks at the same time calling the automated number is like torturing a lil mammal by taking out its hair using a tweezer one by one. you either get the standard message to hold or even better you get the pick up then immediate hang up on the other end, calling on the weekends or Friday good luck for the most part they are not open, if you are of the lucky few that get in you get some stellar assistance with your question. here are some examples - you get a form from the EDD office stating please fill out form if you do not do so your unemployment may be effected, - if you happen to check of the box in your unemployment form that states your going to school - you receive a pending stop of funds until you contact the main office about your unemployment - so many reason so little information even on the web on what they hell they mean if you actually get through the automated line the person on the other end will tell you one or 2 things oh don't fill it out it is just general you dont need it, or let me set up an appointment so we can interview on when you decided to go to school and how it will effect your unemployment For the most part everytime I call, mail, or have to do anything at the main office it has been a waste of time, sadly EDD offices on a whole all FAIL!!! service - "to infinity and beyond" negative stars literally that is how jacked this place is, reps are very helpful they always smile here (if smiling was looking like they wanted to dismember you when you ask a question about any type of issue) = ( ambiance - everything about the place is outdated, chairs, desk, carpet, even the ceiling,, i'm not saying spend money to renovate the place but can someone grab a broom, a duster, some brite boy, windex, even a leaf blower to help this place out. read more

I got a letter in the mail from EDD (Orange County Adjudication Center, Anaheim, CA) to go to a mandatory meeting at 745 Franklin. I was trying to reschedule, because I had a long interview to go to on the same date, and the letter doesn't say how long this meeting is. I called the EDD 800 number and they told me I couldn't change the date. As, we approach the mandatory meeting date, Sunday, 3/15/2020, Governor Newson states we need to only go out when it is absolutely necessary. I cannot be at EDD with a 12 other people doing some sort of job search training, as 6 ft distance cannot be achieved. I also am around an older person, and I can't compromise her health. I tried the EDD number that people suggested to call in previous reviews, but it didn't work. I ended up going there in person today (entrance on Turk) and the guy told me they were cancelling the meeting due to covid-19. They were planning to call people of the cancellation. He took my paperwork and said someone will call me to reschedule. A couple of hours later, an EDD person (from I don't know where) calls me reminding me of the mandatory meeting I need to attend, and I interrupted her saying I went to the EDD office and they told me it was cancelled. She said, "Oh." She then asked if I'd like to reschedule via phone, but if I didn't, my benefits would not be affected. I said, "No, I don't want to reschedule." If for any reason you cannot make your mandatory meeting, because of a job interview conflict or covid-19, call 415-749-7503 (current number as of 3/16/20. It is the number of the One-Stop job location for EDD). The information EDD sends from the Anaheim, CA location has a non-functioning phone number listed for 745 Franklin Street. I'm giving 1- star for the main EDD office in Anaheim. The people at 745 Franklin are fine. Update 4/10/20: for all applying for unemployment. When you actually get an EDD representative, they may put you on hold to transfer you to someone else. You won't hear music, but it doesn't mean they have hung up on you. Keep waiting. read more

The regular EDD website for PFL has been in error made for the last 10 days that I've tried! Same error message. I come to find out by reading some of these reviews that the site has has issues for a while . Calling the number given on website was also a major loss. She Really did help and advise me. Now I no longer have the option to register online due to time and must go to offices in person but I have insight. Let's see how that goes. That'll be my next review. I have not been to this building, but the 1 star is for EDD's phone system to reach a representative. It honestly takes too long to reach someone. 99.9% of the time you are listening to the automated machine trying to find out the numbers to dial to reach a person. AND when you finally are able to push "0" so you can speak to someone, the machine says "The amount of callers waiting to to speak to someone is currently full" then hangs up on you. Or if you do get through, you end waiting 10+ minutes just to be told that they can call you back in X amount of minutes. (Like it should have offered that feature instantly, if it knows you'll be waiting more than 5mins!) I filed my claim back in March 2020, but because of the stupid system I put the incorrect employer information but the info was corrected by mail, sent to EDD. EDD precessed my claim and I received benefits until September. Now I need the extension benefits and EDD denied it claiming I had put the wrong employer information, which was already corrected in the beginning of the claim, otherwise I wouldn't have received benefits right?!? I did not file an appeal because I received 3 letters, which by the way was confusing, made me think I was going to receive PUA extension benefits. I am going the file a new claim in March 2021 with hopes I will receive these weeks that are being denied. read more

UPDATE : It looks like they've changed the system a little... I no longer have the "good luck" I used to have with dialing 130# after the recorded msg. says "welcome." It seems like THE best way... and really, the ONLY way, to get through to someone, is to start dialing them at 7:59 in the morning, and hope and pray you are one of the first people to get through that day, because if you wait just 10 minutes, till 8:10 am, THERE IS NO WAY IN HELL YOU ARE GETTING THROUGH, PERIOD. (I swear I feel like I'm trying to win a damn radio contest when I'm dialing and redialing, only I'd ptobably have an easier time winning backstage passes to see U2 on Live 105 than getting through to EDD). You will go through all the trouble of pressing buttons and entering your social security number (about a 4 minute process), only to get a recorded msg. that says:"Due to the number of callers waiting to speak to a representative, we are unable to assist you at this time. Please try again later." They're totally maxed out after just ten minutes and you can call all day till you're blue in the face, but consider yourself S.O.L. --------------------------- This is going to sound totally insane, but I am now going to share with you what is almost the only way to get through on the EDD line (800-300-5616). Ready? OK here goes: You have to wait till you hear the recorded message, "Welcome to the Employment Development Department..." (there are two messages: one starts with "thank you" which you'll hear like 9 times out of 10, and the other starts with "welcome." You have to wait for the one that says "welcome." I know it's totally insane and makes no sense whatsoever but that's the way it is). The second you hear the word "welcome" you need to hit "130#" and that will take you to a representative. You will likely get a recorded message that says something like, Due to the number of callers, we are unable to answer your call at this time. Please try again later." Repeat 10-20 times, until you get through to someone. People, believe it or not, this is the FAST way to do it. Trust me. I actually had to go into an EDD OFFICE to get this inside information because I couldn't get through to someone AT ALL before I knew this. I know most people want to give just one lowly star for EDD but I have to say, I gotta give at LEAST 3 stars because as frustrating as the system is, it has been a huge relief to me, in this horrible economy, to at least have SOME money coming in, after I got laid off. Can you imagine what we would do without unemployment? When my employer first laid me off I would have been FREAKING out but I said "Am I eligible for Unemployment?" And she said "of course," and all was good with the world. Yes, it's still a rough economy, and I've had to borrow money and clip coupons like crazy but I'm extremely grateful to EDD and Obama for helping me to survive as long as I have. read more

First, thank you to all who posted previously with tips for getting through on the phone. It not only worked, it saved my sanity after many days of trying to call from home. Maybe it would have also worked from home, but it somehow made me feel better going to the EDD office to make 100% sure I got a hold of a live person. So, I showed up there a tad early, around 7:30am, since I feared there would be some massive unemployment line down the block. It turns out most people came between 7:45-8am and less than 10 were waiting to get in when they opened. Once inside, I signed in at the front desk and went straight to the phone area. I followed the instructions posted by others to wait only for the greeting that started with "welcome" and immediately press 1. There is currently some recording about the Obama extension that you have to listen to, but right after that I pressed 6-7-2 and got the prompt to enter my SSN. Then I heard the magic words that I was being transferred and my hold time was only 1 minute! So, maybe this is all just some weird game that you have to play with the State of CA, but I won't question what works. I hope others are able to get through ok if you're also having problems. Good luck! Oh, and the career center area seemed pretty legit to use to look for jobs, only if you don't have access to a computer at home or elsewhere. read more

Its nearly completely impossible to get through to a live person using the 800 number. I understand that the system shouldn't be like a drive thru at the mcdonalds easy when it comes to getting money while unemployed. However- they could make getting help much easier and maybe they wouldn't get such bad remarks. I highly doubt the people working for EDD even care about what people think about them as long as the govt is paying their salary. I went online to look at reviews after my latest EDD Paid Family Leave telephone experience so I could process my anger in a way that felt supportive and still upsetting all at once. I'll keep it brief but wanted to contribute to: 1. Maybe help others deal with their anger over dealing with EDD through a written shared experience 2. Provide another (in a huge list) of appalling reviews of this program I have two young sons that I took 42 days off of my teaching job (for each son) as paternity leave. EDD tries to make it impossibly difficult to not only speak to a real human but also actually get paid the 55% of your normal salary for up to 42 days that is already a financial hardship. I had to continuously fight and appeal decisions in order to get paid by this program each time, and if you're "lucky" enough to get through to a real person on the phone (as pretty much every time I would call, an automated voice either told me that these were not optimum hours to call....all day Monday and Tuesday...total bullshit...or just hung up on me after being on hold for literally hours), 4 out of 5 times you're going to speak to someone that is a total asshole and condescends you for not understanding their fucked up way of trying to avoid paying you in full. If you are in the San Francisco area call 415.929.5773. I got this number off of yelp and there was a real person who answered the phone. He was only able to provide basic information about my claim, but he at leas let me know someone was working on it and he made a note on my account that I had called.
