Prices are reasonable, food is incredibly good and the staff are amazing. The bread for their sandwiches is made there and made well. The house salad should not be missed. Terrific breakfast in a unique setting. Biscuits and gravy some of the best I've had. Wife enjoyed her avocado egg and bacon sandwich, which they "customized" the way she wanted. Prices are very good, and coffee is top-notch! Also need to give a shout out to Zoe, hostess, server, and cashier. Despite it getting fairly busy, she was on top of it all, and friendly throughout. We ate at the Sanctuary Restaurant while we rode RAGBRAI in July, 2016. Since there were a lot of people in town trying to eat out, especially at a decent restaurant, we had to wait a bit. By the time we got in, they had run out of many items on the menu. Nevertheless, the food was great and the owner had a great spirit and humor, even after probably one of the busiest days she had seen. If I am ever in Shenandoah again, I will make sure to visit. read more

Wow, this is a very cool place, the ambiance and the food. We stopped by this restaurant based on the Yelp reviews and we were not disappointed, we arrived 15 minutes before their closing time and they were glad to serve us and did not rush, we felt very welcome. We ordered a sandwich, soup and a dessert, everything was delicious and the service was top notch. This adorable little restaurant hidden in downtown Shenandoah area is a gem!! They have some of THE BEST paninis I've ever had. Everything is always fresh and full of flavor. I always order the pasta salad as a side with my sandwich- it is awesomely creamy, peppery, and has just the right amount of carrots and celery. If you're not in the mood for a sandwich there is always a special of the day that is wonderful. Their chicken wonton salad is perfectly put together and the flavor is spot on! We came to the restaurant during RAGBAI bike event. For the small town the number of bikers overwhelmed the restaurants. We had to wait 30 minutes for a table. Other than the expected wait everything was perfect. The food superb. The service excellent. Prices very reasonable. read more

The food here is divine! You really have to get there early to get their specials, but the sandwiches are quite good too! They cater as well, and everything is just as good catered as it is in house! We were just here to do RAGBRI (the bicycle ride across Iowa) and stopped in for dinner. We are so glad we did. The line was long because of 10,000 bike riders descending on the town; the the wait was worth it and the people were so upbeat and friendly despite having been serving nonstop since noon or so. Oh, and the food was great - way beyond what we expected to find in a small town. We had a french roast beef sandwich and smoked turkey sandwich. They were really big (and we had just biked 50 miles to get there) and they came with a yummy salad with mandarin oranges and banana slices. You could also choose a pasta salad that everyone liked too. There were also really great shakes in about 25 flavors to choose from. We had chocolate raspberry and the couple next to us had pumpkin pie. So good. And did I mention desserts. Everything is made on premises and we were able to sample 5 or 6 kinds between the group of riders. The lemon coconut pie was my favorite with a great flaky crust. The food is very well prepared and obviously made with lot of love and attention (even until the last 30 minutes of what was a very long day for the staff and cook.) Definitely worth finding if you are traveling through or making it a regular stop if you live near by. read more

I also got a half sandwich with turkey, provalone, spinach, roasted red peppers, and garlic butter. It was great!! I love this gem in a small town.
