This store has a great selection and pretty spacious. The staff are really nice and welcoming, however they lack training. They were having issues with their new CC machine and they double charged me. I was advised to come back when the manager returns, but find it odd no one else has the training to assist. I would probably return, but use cash only. Note: I've also donated here and they are very helpful with unloading. Still room for improvement. read more

After eating at Flame Broiler, I walked here to help digest my meal. Upon entering, I can tell that they don't have that much like the one I am used to. It says BOUTIQUE but the stuff is eh. Probably because of the location too. The one in Encino have a lot of good stuff and collections. Most of the furnitures are kind of pricey too. I have loved this store for years, but recently they started hiking up their prices to the point low income families can't even afford a stained sweater or de-threaded pants. Let me give you an idea of what I've seen recently: $75 for a print that sells at $50 framed on EBay. They're also charging $250 for a Carmen accordion (not even sure if works), which sells for $220 refurbished online.. and I saw a sewing mannequin being sold for $25 without a stand when they're $30 with stand at Hobby Lobby. Friendly reminder THESE ITEMS ARE DONATED AND THEY'RE CHARGING ALMOST FULL PRICE. But, this is not to say that I haven't found treasures. One time, many months ago, I found a Christian Dior trench coat for $25 and a vintage Bebe leather jacket for $10. But in the last 3 months they must have hired on someone new for pricing. I cannot justify them charging $250 for an item that has been donated, whether the money goes to "good causes" or not, price them at what they're worth... the AV has plenty of low income families that can benefit from this store, but I guess that's not top priority here anymore. They're almost as bad as Goodwill's pricing, if not maybe a little worse. It's only really worth coming here now when they have sales and discount days. read more

On August 19, 2023, I was present at the retail establishment where I observed two employees engaged in a search for a specific dress, as requested by one employee to the other. Both individuals were actively searching for the dress and subsequently came to the realization that it was being held in my possession. The employee who inquired about the dress confirmed, "Yes, that is indeed the dress. It belonged to me, and I had set it aside. Subsequently, I passed it on to the other employee." The individual characterized by their black hair, adorned with tattoos, and embellished nails featuring gems, exhibited discourteous behavior towards their fellow employee while in search of the dress. Subsequently, she expressed that it is not feasible to retract a product once it has been acquired by a customer. I was taken aback by the discovery that employees set aside items for personal purchase at a later time. I only gave it a 1 star because the customer service was not where it should be. The products in the store are meant for customers. An employee should not hold anything while they are on the clock. If they want something they should wait until they are no longer working therefore can be considered a customer at that point. read more

I use the Lancaster location. I have found their staff very friendly. I was cleaning out my mother-in-laws house during the pandemic, and after I figured out their new modified schedule, I was able to donate many items. Recently, when dropping of donations, I found their staff very friendly and helpful. Their inside staff have always been friendly and genuinely care about their job and the people they help. I attempted to donate a five piece living room furniture set to this facility. Although, Female manager indicated a desire to accept furniture her staff was unwilling to remove the units from the truck bed. After calling The corporate 800 number I learned this particular facility does not have the space or resources to even accept donations of furniture. The closest facility to the Antelope Valley would be in Pasadena. Basically the staff here wasting my time read more

If I could leave 1 star I would. I came to donate things such as kids toys, art frames, clothes, etc. The black women was very rude the second I got there. When she was really nice to the man ahead of me. I'm not sure if she's discriminating me being poc. I asked her if I can donate and she laughed in my face and said no. She even said no to a Mona Lisa picture frame because she couldn't accept it yet she was hold a ton of other frames the same style in her damn hand. We tried to drop off a gently used couch while on the way to moving to our new home. The woman back behind the store collecting furniture donations walked over shrieking about where we had parked our truck and was so angry that she refused to even consider our couch. I never thought such an unprofessional person with this kind of rude attitude would work for a charity, and be so demeaning to people who are trying to donate. I guess our perfectly good couch will have to go to the dump. I will never donate to the Salvation Army again, if the the organization values hiring such bitter employees who are angry about their jobs. They no longer take a lot of things. They rejected about 1/2 of my load, the same stuff that we donate every year. The lady in the drop off area was rude and insisted on going through all of our bags and boxes (20+). She kept grumbling because they weren't sorted to her satisfaction. She rejected some toys, small hard furniture, kitchen stuff. There was a box of plates that was in our garage and were somewhat dusty (it's the AV). She said "we don't take dirty donations, but I'll make an exception this time". There won't be another time. read more

The reply: "We pay for trash like everyone else. No." The smart alec reply was not warranted or appreciated. I didn't really bother to peruse the clothes section considering I'm almost eight months pregnant and thrift stores aren't really known for their vast maternity selections. I did take the time to look at the kids gear, furniture, books, and random tchotchkes. The furniture was definitely in a lot better shape than what they had over at American Way Sav-Mor. The books were priced very reasonably, at less than $2 if I remember correctly. I was very tempted to pick up a Wally Lamb book. Maybe I'm blind, but I had a hard time finding the price on a lot of the sofas and chairs located by the cash register. This Salvation Army's been like my third time at a thrift store so I don't think I can speak much in terms of how fair prices are, how good the merchandise is, etc. This is also a personal bias and I'm surprised that it bothered me as much as it did while I was actually in the store, but I just couldn't get the thought of all the negative press surrounding the Salvation Army and LGBT out of my head. Prices are too high for items that are donated. Salvation Army store do not buy merchandise and they get tax deductions for stuff that is donated. Should help people instead of charging people for donated items. read more

First time back shopping at salvation army in Lancaster ca. I needed a simple overnight bag for hospital trip. $7.99 for only one they had. They have switched the clothing and furniture areas ,lot more stuff to look at but way too expensive for some things you can get at dollar stores. No senior days, 1 color tag on sale. What discouraged me the most and got them 3 stars possibly down to 2 was the register help.4 registers, no cashier close by , one girl told another but she kept putting stuff away, a 2and time still no one ,finally a guy who gave the biggest yawn and touched his mouth came up. Then the machine didn't want to acknowledge my card, it did after adjusting it a bit. More room ,higher prices and less customer service. 2 and 1/2 stars if I could. read more

I gave it a three star because it's a rare day I don't come home with something from this Salvation Army but it seems the prices are a little out of touch for used stuff. I'm always looking a small furniture and some of it is in such bad shape and they still over price it. Things do come down in price after 14 days so if you really want to chance it you can keep an eye on it. don't take your donations here. they reject so much. i literally took a whole king size bedroom set and they want bits and pieces of it not the whole set. that's kinda annoying right . i've been in the store and they sell broke stuff to people but won't take a whole king size bedroom set with minimum damage. they sell use items not brand new items. don't recommend as a store to buy from nor a place to donate!!!! and not to mention we unloaded the dresser and brought it inside the back of the store then she didn't want it so she made us carry it back out and reload it in our truck even after she inspected it before unloading. read more

Walked in with my daughter two days ago.the two women at the counter were conversing quite loud.As we walked by the counter the older of the two said "I'm lucky my daughter never dressed like her..right there" they were laughing and i realized they were talking about me.it's really sad that my daughter had no choice but to be a witness to that kind of discrimination coming from employees at a thrift store. read more

A friend told me about this place. This is my second time trying to deal with them. The first time was for Christmas gifts the the children last year. They wanted all me and my children's personal info such as copies of birth certs and income verification and stuff like that. There was a limit on the price that the gift would be which I think was like 25$ or so. They would ask would might the child like. I took off from work went to the appointment for pick up toys, I was almost 10 mins late they sent me away and come back later. I stood in long line to receive 1.99 cent store toys with the prices still on them. So that was a waste of time and effort. Now a friend told me they help to pay bills. I have been calling for 2 weeks twice I have spoke to someone, once they say call on Tuesday and Thursday to get appointment. I finally got someone on the line then she says call on Friday at 9 am. So I've been calling it tells me to press 0 to speak to someone then says I won't take any messages and the transfer call will not go through and hangs me up for the 20th time. My experience with "Sally Ann" stores in general, is that they tend to be a little dirty and the merchandise is usually a bit overpriced for the quality. This one is no exception. Also, whoever does their pricing is truly misguided. For example, the last time I was there, I saw some dishes that I happen to know come from Walmart, and are sold in a box as a set for about $35.00, brand new. At this Salvation Army, these dishes were priced individually at $2.99 and $1.99 each, which if you bought them all as a set, came out to more than the "new" Walmart price. Then I saw a bunch of really old, faded, pilly, no-name women's sweaters priced at about four bucks. Mixed in with this junk was a brand-new looking Ralph Lauren golf sweater with "U.S. Open" embroidered on it, also for four bucks!! Sooo, they're overpricing the crap, and then when they've got something really worth a little more money, they don't even know it. read more
