The Novotel in Manly is alright. It is certainly a tad overpriced for what you get (although I…read moreguess you're simply paying for the location). We got a suite (2 bedrooms) and the room itself was nice. The master and the living room overlooked the ocean (obstructed by trees though) and the second bedroom with two twin beds overlooked another hotel with a slight ocean view. The kitchen area was OK - it had a fridge and a microwave. There were two bathrooms and one of them had a shower where the door doesn't go completely to the floor (read: very wet bathroom floor). The hotel itself is nice and the staff is nice as well, but there are very few perks. The rooftop pool is very tiny and has AstroTurf which gets REALLY hot in the sun. Additionally, the WiFi isn't free and the paid WiFi is still iffy at best. You can send texts / emails / iMessages but you can't send pictures or watch videos. There's no way I could work from my laptop, either. There is no complimentary coffee but there is a breakfast buffet. We didn't try it but it looked nice - there was a big organic table with fresh honeycomb. You get a discount if you are staying at the hotel. The main draw of this hotel is its proximity to the wharf, the corso, restaurants, and the beach. Everything we did was in quick walking distance. All in all, the hotel was OK - wouldn't recommend nor discourage.

What a welcome to Sydney. There aren't many serviced apartments on the lower north shore, so when…read morewe relocated to Sydney in January we decided to splash out on some beachfront summer living, and it was divine. Surfside actually manages a number of apartments in the area - we stayed in both Bella Vista and Atlantis, which are right on North Steyne opposite the North Steyne Life Saving Club. Front apartments have balconies that overlook the beach - though you do pay a price for the view in some noisy nights at the weekend. You really can enjoy 24-hour Manly from here - from dawn when the sun rises over the waves, welcomed by the early morning surfers and the endless parade of fitness fanatics on the promenade, to dusk when the shadows of the Norfolk pines stretch over the beach like they're languidly saying goodnight. Once the lights are down, the crowd remains, taking in the moonlight over the water and enjoying the endless range of bars and restaurants. Sadly, we can only arrive in Sydney once, but anyone after a self-contained getaway close to the centre of the city could hardly ask for more. It only misses out on five stars because occasionally service was harder to come by than it should have been, and not all the Surfside apartment range has quite the amenity of Bella Vista and Atlantis. Early booking imperative for peak times..

It was a bit flashy for my tastes - I'm not a big fan of classy establishments, but it still seemed to have a bit of a decent atmosphere about it, and also a reasonable selection of beers available on tap. Okay, while it wouldn't be one that I would actively return to (for obvious reasons), it was still quite nice.

It's got a double wagyu patty and shaved kebab meat and hummous and chilli sauce and cheddar and quinoa tabouli and fries on the burger and it's giant two-hander, a real face messer-upper, you'll have rich juice all down your collar if you're not quick with a napkin. Also got a side of fried pickles with garlic mayo and they were the full battered pickles, not those little sliced discs you sometimes get. Got there at 5pm after some beach action and the place was deserted, but as soon as it hit 5.30pm and kitchen opened, BOOM! every man and his burger hunger was there. It's a pretty sleek fitout, and a cavernous pub, almost like a really fancy RSL with the pokie room (yuck) at the back. If i was a local, this would be on my hot list.
