This wasn't fully understood by myself until we went into the pub for a drink after the long drive from 'down south'. There were areas with reserved signs on the tables near the bar. For the first two choices. Then, of course, the restaurant to the rear. Great friendly service by very professional staff. So we looked forward to the evening after a quick nap. On arrival in the evening we were shown to the restaurant. Drinks offered and a menu. OK the menu was 'limited' due to it being the Christmas season, I assume. But there was plenty on the menu to choose from. Our steak, on both evenings, were perfect. Nice choices of various wines, even my partners favourite, of a British Bacchus. A wonderful two evenings just eating and lounging in a wonderful English pub. OK, one minor niggle. I drink vodka on ice (the rocks) and the glasses for these shorts are not clear glass but bobbly glass (only one way to describe them). Even had a brandy with coffee in the same type of glass. It's a shame and, maybe, should be thought about. PLEASE Great pub, great staff, good food and a lovely atmosphere. Thanks guys and gals

Mode Hotel was well priced, had a sea view and included a continental breakfast. The car park is a little tight and I only have a tiny car. Things like this just add stress- they could do with re-painting the spaces at an angle, though perhaps they couldn't fit so many in then. A very friendly welcome at reception. She clearly explained eveyrthing, including the honesty bar (you write down everything you take). Our room was modern and simple. The bed was very comfortable- we slept well. The shower was good and there was a hospitality tray. Breakfast was serviceable though not the best ever. Fruit, yoghurt, cereal and fruit juices were all enjoyable. It really stands out on the seafront. We popped into the bar for drinks. The inside was nice but wasn't quite as stylish as I'd expected. I liked the big windows and round bar. Apparently they used to do cocktails but have replaced them with grand gins. Grand gins are popular at the moment and they suit the name but it seems a shame to completely get rid of cocktails. There was a good variety of gin available in the Spanish style, in a large glass with lots of ice and suitable garnishes. Mine was lovely and cost around £8.

The restaurant occupies the bottom floor with a cocktail bar on the top floor, which has a fantastic lighting and music system. An equally amazing cocktail list to match, my personal personal favourite STRAWBERRY DAIQUIRI, which takes me straight back to my holidays! We ate there Tuesday night with two good friends from Chorley, we had a drink in the bar then made our way to the table. There is a normal menu with starters and mains along with a tapas menu. I had the meatballs off the tapas as my starter, I was not let down by the juicy, succulent homemade meatballs. Main course normally I have a steak when we eat out, I thought I'd break the habit so I ordered chicken breast stuffed with garlic and basil, wrapped in pancetta services with new potato's (which were slightly roasted and amazing) along with a creamy tomato and chorizo sauce. Which was to die for!!!!!! After all that I was too full to have a pudding! Defiantly worth a visit!

What better way to celebrate than to gather 18 of your closest family and pile into a good restaurant where you're guaranteed some good grub and a large table to sit at? Eating from the fixed price menu, we were asked to send our menu choices before the meal, presumably so they could be prepared in the kitchen. Despite it being April, the fixed price menu online is labelled March, causing confusion amongst many of the party. Turns out the fixed price menu doesn't change that often, so why label it? I opted for the braised beef & chips followed by chocolate brownie. How yawn of me. None of the starters took my fancy - think things like garlic mushrooms, pate, and fish - and even the mains were a bit of a minefield. We were all asked to email our orders through and, when we got to the restaurant, there was an unexpected delay caused by Mr. Fat Olive only receiving 16 orders so he had only set the table for 16. Why not ring and double check? Who knows. Once we all got seated - not an easy feat with so many of you! - food came quickly and service was nice and smooth. Plates were put down full and taken away empty. My beef was nice and soft, served with great chips, but a distinct lack of vegetables; the bowl that came was predominantly cabbage with a piece or two of broccoli. My brownie, from what I can remember, was nice and gooey, probably not what I needed after wine and beef, but it still went down a treat. The atmosphere at Fat Olive is nice and relaxed, not too formal but still appropriate for big occassions.
