Unlike earlier in the pandemic when they were bringing food to residents' units, even after the large rise in cases around the Thanksgiving holiday, the DINING ROOM continues to be open. Today I found out my father has been diagnosed with COVID; although he wears a mask there are MANY residents who have been very careless about that. I blame them and the management for not taking the proper precautions with gatherings, including having a "Christmas Party" and keeping the dining room open. Please get wise about this virus!!

Same two soups for lunch and dinner each day, salad bar lacks variety and lettuce is wilted, no fresh fruit - only canned, not enough variety, both in terms of the food itself and nutrition - if fish (fried) is the main meal, then one of the soups is fish, if chicken is one of the main meals, then there is a chicken soup, food need a to be kept warm for the entire time of service, not just the beginning times of each mealtime. Apparently ignoring that, the dragon said he would have this reaction to ANY type they put him on and that he should go to an ENT because they don't have what they need to do further tests that they couldn't do. (For what? She didn't say. We already knew he had an ear infection from his first visit and the steroids WERE helping until he had the reaction.) When I asked if she was refusing further medical treatment at this time she said No! Of course not! If he wants to come in- Apparently having forgotten that she had said before that they didn't have what they supposedly needed to test him. Insurance fraud on top of everything?

No one really seems to care about the care plan set, they don't communicate, they failed to give my grandmother pain medication as they said they were doing, they wouldn't get her out of bed, or encourage her to eat. Overall they just failed to give her the attention she needed. When you would go to the nurses stand for help you were ignored. I would have to say can someone assist me. Their personal conversations seemed more important. They would just sit while call buttons rang. I called the executive director twice and left messages. I never received call backs and she was rarely in when I visited to try to speak with her. I even told the Nurse Manager and Social Worker that I demanded she call me. Nothing. I think this is a major lack of staffing and leadership issue. It is time to get a new executive director. I am a firm believer that leaders lead and associates follow. Leaders are a direct reflection of their staff. It is amazing to me having moved her to Life Care of Collegedale the night and day difference. On the other hand I highly recommend Life Care of Collegedale. They take time with her. They have her up every morning. They get her out of her room. They listen to her needs. They place large bibs on her. She eats with other people in the dining room which I begged Ooltewah to do and they never did. They are friendly and attentive. They discovered a major issue with her medication right off the bat, and I could barely get the doctor at Life Care of Ooltewah to take the time to review anything. It was amazing the responds on the NextDoor when someone inquired about this location and many wrote about the same issues we had. Please do not place your love ones in their care. Also, a private room is over $3,000 per month more than Collegedale, but Life Care Collegedale has clearly been renovated. So I pose the question what am I paying for? It is clearly not service. I share this so many others don't go through the same experience my family did. I wish I had asked around before placing her at the Ooltewah location in the first place.
