It is owned by the Centre Group, which was previously part of the Westfield Group, a multi-national based in Australia. The Westfield Group was split in 2014 into a Australia/New Zealand portion (Centre group which owns this mall) and the Westfield Corporation, which owns many shopping centers in Europe and the US, including many that I've been to (Westfield Old Orchard, Westfield Century City, Westfield Topanga, and Westfield Culver City). We spent a bit of time here while waiting for our reservation at the Sydney Tower, whose customer entrance is located in this mall.

The opening of the new Westfield definitely gave it an added shine, but there's no lack of other shops in the area, with a large Myer, Mid City and The Strand to choose from, plus all the others that inhabited the pedestrianised shopping strip. Come lunchtime, the area becomes a hub of activity as city-types make their way to the numerous food courts on offer. Although it never actually gets quiet, as tourists and local inhabit the area almost constantly, especially when the sun's out, but the refurbishment also meant the creation of a more pleasant area to hang out as opposed to the run down precinct that used to occupy the space. It seems to have character as well, hence why I now choose to come here if I need to go to Westfield for whatever reason, as opposed to the Bondi Junction one. It just feels much nicer! You'll also find the place occupied by street artists, which I'm generally not a fan of, but I can live with it.

But unlike in LA where they are not frequented, Market City was definitely hopping on a Friday afternoon. The vast majority of retail stores are Far East Asian (Chinese and Korean). There are grocery stores located in the bottom floor, along with beauty stores. There are also stand alone carts selling various knick knacks. It was worthwhile perusing them, and my brother ended up buying quite a few things.

Harbourside shopping centre's best point of attraction is the location - Darling Harbour! What you'll find inside is pretty much as you'd expect in any shopping centre of its size - newsagency, cafe, clothing shops, and a food court. I wouldn't call it rubbish, because once again, the jackpot location makes up for the uninteresting range of retailers inside. It connects Pyrmont and Haymarket, and to Sydney CBD via Pyrmont Bridge, and seriously, there are countless spots around for tourists and locals to visit, from IMAX theatre and Sydney Convention Centre to Cockle Bay Wharf and Sydney Aquarium all within walking distance. My favorite memory here is sitting on one of the stools by the porch off the food court on a rainy night looking out and around the harbour, with a chocolate mint ice cream cone in my hand.

I guess in comparison to the Westfield Center, Harbourside feels dated, but by itself it's more an entertainment center than your run of the mill mall. It has three levels with the lower level being the food court and exit onto Darling Harbour. There are a lot of restaurants and nightlife seems to be happening there. We were too tired to take in the scene at night so I can't comment on that, but I can say that by 7pm it was bustling. Darling Harbour if you don't know is the hub of tourist activity...for the nightlife scene. It's conveniently located by the water taxis and ferries that can take you quickly around the harbour and drop you off at Circular Quay for access to the Opera House and The Rocks. We were big fans of the Mandarin Spa. The lady there really worked a knot out on my back, although I was disappointed my girlfriend's masseuse had a cold. Word to the wise, if your job is to touch people it might not be sanitary for you to have a cough. That was very disappointing. I am glad the food there was able to make up for that. All in all, Darling Harbour is a nice hub for you to set up camp on a trip to Sydney. The Pyramont Bridge connects you with downtown and it's just a few minutes walk into the heart of Sydney.

The place is confusing, and while one might be able to get some cheap goods here, they fact that you can really only get here by car means that its accessibility isn't all that great either. Well, there is a bus stop nearby, but getting inside is still a challenge.

We took the Uber and it was located right along the bay. Beautiful sight and you can walk the 7 km if you feel like it. Found a lot of bargains. $9.99 summer clothes. $5 kids clothes. But of course, if you're into designer high end brands, They're all here. For tourists only, just visit the Guests Services and you will receive the Visitor Passport for extra discounts in most stores. Guests services also provides charging stations, complimentary herbal tea or water and lounge areas.
