I expected more from an Irish bar. Expensive drinks, no noticeable food, and not so friendly…read moreservice except for Anna, the only Spaniard working in the place. It is nice enough, but the men working there are distant, cold, and provide less than average service, having to nearly beg for a drink while they cater to their countrymen. My experiences in Ireland were much different, much more positive. €4.80 ($5.25) for a pint of Smithwick's when The Irishman near the port charges just €4 for a superior pint of IPA, I preferred being by the sea and saving a dollar. Their Happy Hour is the best reason to visit, but ask what is half-price before you order as NOT EVERYTHING IS 2 FOR ONE as their adverts claim. Anna is a breath of fresh air even though she is somewhat superficial and does not necessarily follow through with her promises, but her service is top notch. She will make you feel welcome even though she may not be sincere. I have been in rural and urban pubs in Ireland where I was made to feel welcome and paid a fair price ... Claddagh Irish Bar, unfortunately, falls short on both accounts. CombatCritic Gives Claddagh Irish Bar ... And I use That Term Loosely ... 4 Bombs Out Of 10

Live music in the evenings changes the atmosphere as night approaches and the place is open until around 3am, especially over the summer. Oh and it has a pool table I like to lean on from time to time! Make sure you call in for a pint!

Anna, the bartender at Claddagh Irish Pub in Marbella, turned me on to this new Spanish restaurant…read morejust around the corner. She told me that they had good, authentic Andalucian cuisine, excellent wines, and reasonable prices and she was absolutely right! There was what I would call a "Mariachi" group on the sidewalk in front of the restaurant strumming four guitars and singing familiar songs I have heard many times in Mexican restaurants in California and Texas. I was told that they are called "Tunos" in Spain, but these four gentlemen were much more talented than any Mariachi group I have ever heard. The guitars and voices were melodically synchronized, rendering four part harmonies unrivaled by some of the best barber shop quartets I have heard. They performed non-stop from 9:30pm until nearly 11:30pm when I finally left for my room and they were superb. The waiter spoke English reasonably well, suggesting wines, starters, and a main course. Nothing I ordered was on the menu. He first brought me a glass of Tempranillo, a dark, robust Spanish red wine with hints of oak along with a "tortilla". Not the Mexican variety tortilla we expect in stateside restaurants and supermarkets, a tortilla in Spain is an omelette made with eggs and potatoes, resembling a very thick piece of quiche the size of a slice of pie. The tortilla de patatas (€2.50), two slices actually, were light yet savory and delicious. Anna had recommended the Gambas al Pil Pil (€9), an Andalucian specialty with prawns baked in a sauce of olive oil, garlic, and chili peppers accompanied by fresh bread for dipping. The ceramic dish came to me still bubbling with 12 small shrimp, slices of garlic, and a few diced red chili peppers. The fresh sliced baguette easily soaked up the decadent garlic infused oil, raising my cholesterol level by several hundred points. I have to admit that this was one of the best dishes I have had in quite a while. The service was impeccable, attentive and friendly, always there when needed but not suffocating. I had no idea how much the check would be when it arrived and when it did, I was shocked! Just €16.10 (less than $18) for three glasses of wonderful wine, s starter and a main course, while enjoying excellent, traditional Spanish melodies - what more could I ask for? Unfortunately, my wife was unable to accompany me on this trip, but even still, this was one of the most enjoyable, affordable dining experiences I have had in quite a while and I will return before leaving Marbella ... sorry honey! I always hesitate before giving the maximum score to any establishment, but I honestly could not find a fault to deduct even a single "bomb", hence ... We sat inside downstairs; there is also an upstairs. It was a very cold night. We were the only ones speaking English. The walls had tile halfway up. A large refrigerator sat in the dining room. Totally a homey mom and pop type place- loved it! Our waiter brought out bread and olives immediately. They also brought out a dish on the house. It was a light salad of chopped tomatoes, onion, cucumber, green bell pepper, in a light vinaigrette. We ordered the octopus, a whole grilled fish, and milhojas for dessert. He brought out the raw fish to explain what was available and the preparation. The grilled sardines were fantastic. They were large and there were a lot (6) to an order. The octopus was also good and not rubbery. The whole fresh fish was amazing. It was cooked to perfection and the serving was such that it was easy to get at it. The french fries were incredible. I did not want to eat them but they were so crunchy! I had to ask the secret. He said they start with a fresh potato. Nothing frozen here!! They also served sliced tomatoes (6 quarter sliced for the three of us) seasoned with a drizzling of a fresh parsley pesto. The dessert was pre-cut. The fresh cream in-between layers of a chewy pastry was Napoleon-like. We were served a liquor also after our dessert. This restaurant is in my friends' permanent rotation. I would recommend it for a casual night out with fresh seafood. Awesome!
